Restaurant Daily News 9 1 Sunday, May 21, 2017 HELPING U.S. PRODUCTS BECOME GLOBAL BRANDS Are you interested in exporting your products but not sure where to start? The Food Export Association of the Midwest USA (Food Export-Midwest) and Food Export USA-Northeast (Food Export- Northeast) help small food and agricul- tural companies export their products and support them on their way to becoming global brands. Through a custom, three- tiered approach of exporter education and outreach, market entry and market promotion, more and more small compa- nies are discovering the benefits of exporting. Food Export-Midwest and Food Export-Northeast are two of four U.S. State Regional Trade Groups. These non- profit organizations partner with state agricultural promotion agencies and use federal, state and industry resources to help U.S. suppliers increase sales over- seas. Services they provide are funded through the Market Access Program, administered by the Foreign Agricultural Service of the United States Department of Agriculture. "Every day we help companies across a 22 state region in the Midwest and Northeast learn about the value of exporting, enter new markets and remain successful in those markets. Through Food Export-Midwest in Chicago and Food Export-Northeast in Philadelphia, and our extensive net- work of partners and In-Market Representatives around the globe, we provide cost-effective services to help companies increase sales and expand internationally," states Tim Hamilton, Executive Director of Food Export- Midwest and Food Export-Northeast. "The majority of companies we assist are small, in many cases family-owned, and don't have the resources or capi- tal to even learn about exporting, much less enter new markets. That's where we help. Food exporting remains an incredibly bright spot in today's economy and many companies are not aware of the help available to enter and succeed in new markets." Depending on where a company is on their exporting path, Food Export- Midwest and Food Export-Northeast can provide a custom package of servic- es to meet the needs of U.S suppliers. Specific programs include Buyers Missions in which international buyers come to the U.S. to meet with suppliers, similar to what is being held on the floor of the NRA Show. Focused Trade Missions bring U.S. suppliers to a coun- try to meet with international buyers and immerse themselves in the market and learn firsthand about distribution, sales, pricing and com- peting products. Food Export also offers Food Show PLUS™!, a customized tradeshow enhancement service so suppliers can maximize their interna- tional tradeshow experience and take advantage of extensive market expertise. The Market Builder program provides tailored, in-market research to help deter- mine if a market is right for a particular product. The Branded Program provides 50 percent cost reimbursement for a variety of international marketing activities, including package and label modifica- tions, advertising, in-store promotions, product demonstrations, public relations, websites, tradeshow expenses, marketing and point of sale materials. CHALKBOARD CHAFER – STERNO PRODUCTS LAUNCHES A BUFFET INNOVATION An interview with Supharee Tran, Product Manager, Sterno Products. RDN: What exactly is this product? ST: The WindGuard Fold-Away 'Chalkboard' Chafer is a full-size chafer that is designed to function as a tradition- al chafing dish, with three major improvements. It is wind resistant. When not in use, it folds at to 1.75" making it ideal for storage and transport. Its black matte finish provides customers with a unique and creative way to communicate with their guests using liquid chalk on the exterior surface of the chafer. RDN: Is liquid chalk included with the purchase of the Chalkboard Chafer? ST: No, liquid chalk is not included nor is it a product we sell. Liquid chalk can be purchased from most hobby/craft retailers as well as from internet retailers. RDN: What about cleanup? What's the best way to remove the liquid chalk from the chafer following an event? ST: A clean damp cloth is all that's need- ed. It cleans up as easy as a traditional black or white board found in most class- rooms and meeting rooms. RDN: During service, when the chafer is fully engaged (chafing fuel lit and water and food pans in place) does the heat generated by the chafing fuel have any impact on the liquid chalk text/illustra- tions on the exterior surface of the chafer? ST: It does not. The liquid chalk main- tains its integrity under normal operating conditions. RDN: Once it's been applied to the Chalkboard Chafer, will the liquid chalk smudge if touched? ST: We recommend not touching the 'chalked' areas after application. RDN: Does the chafer come with a lid? ST: No, the chafing dish lid is sold sepa- rately RDN: Does the chafer come with hotel water and food pans? ST: No, this product uses the same type of hotel water and food pans used in standard full-size chafers. These are available at any restaurant supply store. RDN: Is this product only for outdoor use? ST: Not at all. Though it's called the WindGuard chafer, it can be used indoors and out. It is the most versatile chafer on the market today. RDN: What type of chafing fuel is best to use with this chafer? ST: You can use any stan- dard chafing. The chafer has built-in chafing fuel holders. We recommend using one of our PowerPad wick products. RDN: What's the best way to clean this product? ST: Mild soap and water and a damp cloth or sponge. RDN: Where can customers purchase this product? ST: Please contact Sterno Products cus- tomer service at 877.526.7748. RDN: Where can show attendees see the Chalkboard Chafer? ST: Come by and see us at the Sterno booth #6223. We'll have several set up for the attendees to try out. For more information, go to www.sternopro.com, call 951.682.9600 or stop by booth #6223.
