Kitchenware News & Housewares Review Show Daily Monday, March 20, 2017 9 0 CDN MEASURES UP WITH NEW THERMOMETERS, TIMERS CDN ® offers over 90 thermometers and timers, from the basic to the unique. Experts in kitchen measurement tools, the company is introducing new ther- mometers and colorful, easy-to-use timers. A convenient tool for successful roasting or grilling, the CDN LED Probe Thermometer/Timer (LT392) lets you know when your meat is rare, medium rare, medium or well done. This fully featured thermometer/timer combo stands out for its pre-pro- grammed doneness stages that are illu- minated by color coded LEDs. It meas- ures both temperature (100 to 392 degrees Fahrenheit) and time (up to 99 minutes by minutes). Once the cooking temperature reaches 100 degrees Fahrenheit, the LED display automati- cally lights up and continuously dis- plays the current cooking temperature and doneness stage. It can also function as a count-down timer, and it features last count recall, a convenience for repetitive batch cooking. A CDN first, the best-selling ProAccurate ® Digital Thermometer (DT392-1.7) is now available with an exclusive 1.7mm thin tip. This NSF-cer- tified thermometer features simple one- button operation for measuring the inter- nal temperature of meats, poultry and fish for perfect culinary results. Made from food-safe plastic with a stainless-steel stem, it has a conven- ient temperature guide on the sheath, which doubles as a handle extension. CDN's new timers tie in with the trend toward compact products that are suited for smaller kitchens and take up less space in kitchens of any size. The CDN Mini Timer (TM28), which is just 2.1 by 2.75 inches, offers the simplicity of intuitive ease of use, counting up or down by minutes and seconds for up to 100 minutes. Extra big digits, last count recall and bright colors add to its appeal. It comes in white, blue, hot pink, black or silver. With its trendy retro design and stainless steel colors, CDN Compact Mechanical Timer (MT4) stands out for its style, simplicity and intuitive ease of use. It has a 2-inch diameter face and is easy to operate – simply turn the top to set the time. It counts down by minutes for up to an hour, with a loud three-second alarm. The dial is easy to read, and the alarm can't be missed. The sturdy housing is 430 stainless steel that is painted in red, white, blue, black or silver. A non-slip rubber magnet allows it to sit securely on a countertop or attach to any metal surface. CDN offers a wide variety of ther- mometers, timers and scales. OASIS CONCEPTS INTRODUCES INNOVATIVE LINE OF FOLDING KITCHEN ISLANDS & NEW PRODUCTS A folding kitchen island and other brand new storage products built based on a patented precision-hinge folding mecha- nism are now available for sale by Oasis Concepts. The X-Large Flip & Fold Island is one of the most popular models. It opens up to 42 inches wide by 24 inches deep by 36 inches high. It has a stainless steel top and frame, with one solid hardwood shelf. The other popular model is the Flip & Fold Island, which opens up to 30 inches by 20.5 inches by 36 inches high. The top and shelf are both made of solid hardwood and the frame is made of stain- less steel. Both of these models come with four lockable wheels. When not in use, they can be folded up to just 5 inches thick for easy stow-away. "Nowadays, the kitchen is a space that can be used for entertaining guests and a place for the family to come togeth- er and enjoy each other's company. The kitchen island becomes very important because it provides a social space in the home where everybody hangs out. Some homes now even have double islands: a work island and a social island," said Kelvin Ng, President of Oasis Concepts. It is important for a kitchen to achieve a balance between the social and functional aspects as well as being aesthetically pleasing. The two Oasis Flip & Fold Islands can provide that balance. Meals can be pre- pared on these islands and clean up is rel- atively easy. It is also a place that every- one in the family can meet to chat or use the internet. Besides, the Oasis islands are good looking and are of high quality. "Besides the kitchen, the Oasis Flip & Fold Islands can be used in every room in the home. For serving, laundry, craft- ing, outdoor barbecue, setting up comput- ers and printers in home offices, or for TVs and audio visu- al equipment in your living room," Ng added. "With the four wheels, it can be highly mobile, but locked down if nec- essary when needed to stay in place." Besides kitchen islands, Oasis Concepts has added a new line of racks and baskets good for storage and organization. They are being debuted at the show. This year, Oasis Concepts has changed its booth location. It is still in the South Hall, but the new booth is #S824. TV is my accidental career. Much to my surprise, after we shot 13 half hour pro- grams, we were put up for an Emmy award for the New England region and we won it. And everything changed very rapidly. KNSD: You decided to go all-digital after Bob Vila Home Again ended in 2007. Why? BV: I have three kids who are part of the Millennial generation, and like others in their 20s and 30s, they have moved into their first homes and started their own lives. Some young people are in fixer- uppers, some are juggling household and day-care expenses, and many are getting their first set of tools. They are budget conscious, environmentally aware and tech savvy – and so is bobvila.com. KNSD: What attracted you to working on the restoration of Ernest Hemingway's home outside of Havana? BV: This has been a unique project. I've been involved in so many home restora- tion projects over the course of my career I've lost count, and this is the only one that's had this really special status. It's not just restoring a house, it's building relationships and trust. It's an important Bob Vila (Cont'd. from p. 1) thing to be doing because it really repre- sents the collaboration of an American novelist and the Cuban people. It cements what his legacy is all about. KNSD: You recently began production of your own line of tools and DIY prod- ucts. Why did you decide to branch out in that direction? BV: My website, bobvila.com, was developed to serve as a coach; taking folks from inspiration to how-to instruc- tions, and then to links to products that help them realize their vision. By design- ing my own line, Bob Vila Products, I will be able to offer people what they need, and most importantly, it will assure that what I am recommending is of the highest quality and something people can rely on. KNSD: What makes Bob Vila Products different from other product lines in the same market? BV: We are constantly on the lookout for unique, problem-solving solutions to everyday problems. Tired of trying to keep your nails from rolling off the table? Magnetic Wristband. Want a quick and easy way to garden without fumbling with tools? Shovel Gloves! Each of our products offers a definite solution with guaranteed quality! For more information, stop by booth #N8448 or go to www.bobvilaproducts.com.
