Kitchenware News & Housewares Review Show Daily Monday, March 20, 2017 6 4 TOTALLY BAMBOO EXPANDS GREENLITE DISHWASHER SAFE BAMBOO CUTTING BOARD COLLECTION Totally Bamboo is known for its bamboo innovations. Sixteen years ago, the Founders, Tom and Joanne Sullivan, introduced the first bamboo cutting board. Then eight years ago, they devel- oped the first dishwasher safe bamboo cutting board. Today, they're expanding on their Greenlite Dishwasher Safe (DWS) Bamboo cutting board collection and adding a five-year warranty. The Greenlite DWS Bamboo cutting boards and other new product introduc- tions are being showcased in booth #2157, South Building. "Everyone's lives are getting busier and busier with no signs of stopping," says Tom Sullivan. "They're looking for ways to simplify, especially in the kitchen. Using dishwasher safe cutting boards is one way to do that. We're so confident in the quality and durability of our Greenlite DWS line, we added a five- year warranty." Totally Bamboo is introducing seven new Greenlite DWS products, for a total of 12 pieces total in the collection, including a Two-Tone Pizza Peel. The company also added a five-year warranty against splitting and cracking for its Greenlite DWS line. Visit www.totallybamboo.com for details. How Bamboo is Made Dishwasher Safe The engineering process behind the Greenlite DWS collection is somewhat complex. Tri Ply construction is part of the formula of making a bamboo board that's dishwasher safe. Unlike lower cost boards, Totally Bamboo uses only mature stalks (over five years of age) and the company takes the extra time to stabilize its raw material for up to three weeks. Once stabilized, the raw material is precision milled to exacting tolerances, resulting in a perfectly balanced width and height of each individual strip (about the width and height of a barbecue skewer). The strips are pressed together using an FDA compliant, non-formaldehyde adhesive. Because the strips are so thin, this micro-lamina- tion (trademark p a t e n t - p e n d i n g ) allows the bamboo strips to expand and contract without warping or causing splits along the glue line. Great Knife "Feel" Because the Greenlite DWS line is made with quality bamboo using the Tri Ply construction, it maintains the "feel" of real wood (or bamboo) under the knife. Other cutting boards on the market are either polypropylene plastic or composite and give the sensation of cutting on glass. Bamboo also is far easier on knives, especially ceramic knives.
