Viking Satcom also offers We'll also be discussing what the mantra "content is king" means for networks and a future of optimized content. BSD: What technologies or advance- ments are you most excited about and what can they mean for the future? BM: It's difficult to choose just one. Certainly the convergence of IT and legacy technologies, while bringing challenges, is also ushering opportunities to reach audi- ences in new ways and providing addition- al revenue streams for broadcasters. We're in the midst of a paradigm shift. Consumers are changing the way media is consumed and broadcasters are scrambling as a result. Challenges are driving innovation that might be daunting but can also be exciting at the same time. Delivery to multiple con- nected screens is sure to be major part of the future landscape. BSD: What is on the horizon for Globecomm―at NAB and beyond? BM: We're committed to continuing innovation around comprehensive, end- to-end solutions for broadcasters in media and entertainment and other key verticals. These solutions can take the form of OTT/set-top solutions, integrated and fully managed IP infrastructures or legacy networks that integrate upgraded compo- nents and newer technologies. Alternatively, we can also provide man- aged uplink services by integrating cus- tomer services into our network. At NAB, we'll be showcasing what we've done for major players in media and entertainment and the technology that sits behind these solutions. We have some exceptional engineers at Globecomm. Their combined experience and expertise across protocols is a tremendous benefit for customers. entertainment organizations – from stu- dios to sports leagues to new media organizations. Our engineering, design and management expertise across satellite, IP and legacy systems make us uniquely qualified to create, implement and fully manage end-to-end video solutions cus- tomized to unique requirements. Offering 24/7 NOC and teleport availability, we've created IP video networks, national broadcast centers and streaming video services for the likes of Viacom, Fox Television Studios, Showtime Networks and Eutelsat – all across the globe. BSD: What do you feel are the biggest challenges and technical hurdles facing broadcasters today? BM: We're in a time of multiple, complex content formats, myriad network types and extreme budget-consciousness. Today's transport and management systems must manage these challenges while also deliv- ering greater efficiency, flexibility and scal- ability. In addition, consumers now expect the same quality on the range of connected devices now proliferating the marketplace as they experience on their big-screen TVs. It's a tall order. Broadcasters who create networks to accommodate these challenges and leverage new opportunities will be in a good position moving forward. BSD: How is Globecomm solving current marketplace challenges, and what sets Globecomm apart from the competition? BM: We are a full-service provider, provid- ing technology solutions, program manage- ment solutions, systems design and integra- tion and full life cycle support – from strat- egy through implementation. We focus on creating the very best solution for a given situation or challenge, which means we're not married to specific technologies or product lines. This agnostic, full-service approach gives customers the best possible Globecomm (Con't. from p. 1) monitor-mounting positions for optimal sightlines and ergonomically correct view- ing angles. An array of slat-track acces- sories are also available to help reduce clutter and keep workstations organized. Winsted designers believe cable management should be convenient and flexible. EnVision consoles feature a cable trough that easily hooks onto the slat-track with no tools required, allow- ing flexible positioning and fast, easy access for maintenance and upgrades. EnVision consoles come standard with Winsted's durable Marmoleum work sur- face, an environmentally friendly work sur- face option that is also inherently antistatic and antibacterial, making it ideal for tech- nical environments with sensitive electron- Winsted Corp (Con't. from p. 1) ics. BSD: What do you attribute your com- pany's success? CK: Two things. First, our customer service is second to none. When you call, someone answers the phone. A big per- centage of the time the problems reside in a piece of equipment up or down stream of our unit. In these cases and our technical staff walks the customer though a debug process to illustrate this fact so they can contact the appropriate party. If it is our problem, generally it's resolved within a few minutes. Second, the strength and agility of our engineering team. We frequently take product feature requests from our cus- tomers or if a customer finds a bug, our engineering team can turn it around quickly. If a desired feature is mar- software solution and several transport stream processors including the TSACO- 3000 failover switch and TSC-6000 transport stream converter to name a few. BSD: What products will you be show- casing this year? CK: We've partnered with Expway, a world leading mobile broadcast software vendor providing Electronic Service Guide and Igolgi, video compression and transcoder experts to develop a fully inte- grated turnkey mobile broadcast system. The turnkey system will allow broadcast- ers to quickly add Mobile DTV to their existing over-the-air signal. One really nice feature of our turnkey system is it's fully integrated with PSIP Pro to allow a single interface to manage events for both the legacy and mobile DTV channels. BSD: What trends do you see in the marketplace? CK: Streaming media. Broadcasters are pushing more and more content over IP networks. We saw this trend building a few years ago and redesigned our hard- ware products to include transport stream over IP interfaces (TSoIP). One feature that sets us apart from our competitors is our ability to pass or convert ATSC Mobile DTV transport streams without affecting the Mobile DTV data. Our TSACO-3000 and TSC-6000 are ATSC A/153 Mobile DTV-ready. A configurable parameter allows the unit to lock to the incoming Mobile transport stream preventing the insertion or removal of null packets. A problem which breaks Mobile DTV, described in more detail in a recent TV Technology article titled "HPA 2013: Fox's Mobile DTV Update." Our TSC-6000 was veri- DTV Innocations (Con't. from p. 1)
