These solutions control virtual- ly all makes and models of stand alone PTZ cameras using serial or IP protocol. But one of our most exciting recent developments has been the integration of a high-quality pan/tilt head with any field production camcorder that supports LANC control. So the combination of BlackTrax and RUSHWORKS integrat- ed camera control provides an unbeatable production combination for realtime, direct robotic video tracking. For more information, visit booth C5640 at NAB. For information about RUSH- WORKS, go online to www.rushworks.tv, call 888-894-7874 or email rush@rush- works.tv. Anything tagged with a flip phone sized battery-powered BTBeacon, which carries an IR LED, gyroscope, accelerometer, and tiny wire- less radio, is tracked inside The Space of up to 160 feet in diameter at more than 100 frames per second by overhead BTCams, while its orientation is commu- nicated by RF directly to the BTServer. Should the IR line of sight become momentarily obstructed, the BTBeacon's onboard Inertia Measurement Unit (IMU) provides double-redundant 3D positioning via its tiny radio transmitter. BSD: What does RUSHWORKS con- tribute to the partnership? RB: RUSHWORKS is well known for its automation and production solutions, A-LIST and VDESK, which are market- ed to TV stations, municipalities, educa- tional institutions, houses of worship and entertainment venues. We designed uct development and to assist our cus- tomers in ways that others cannot. BSD: What do you anticipate will be the most significant technology trend in 2013? CAM: Cloud-based services pushing the convergence of broadcast TV and the Internet. This will be driven by econom- ic pressure and customer interest. I say "interest" because I have yet to see the "tipping point" where consumers are demanding interactive TV, but they are demanding TV Everywhere. When con- tent owners and distribution networks develop new models of monetization that bring cost, price, and profit into line we will have convergence. Once schedules and media packages are defined, sales teams can quickly ascertain avails and put in place contracts that capitalize on those revenue generating opportunities. Sales goals are defined and tracked so that real-time pacing reports and rev- enue projections can be generated. Prior to distribution, broadcast logs are reviewed and finalized by traffic and exported to automation and/or transcode systems for distribution. Throughout this entire process, ProTrack will export and import sched- ules and program metadata to various devices throughout the entire broadcast chain, including but not limited to: sta- tion websites, EPG/PSIP generators, automation, archive management, transcode and accounting systems. In addition, ProTrack will coordinate the movement of media from archive to play-out and vice-versa based on what is actually being scheduled. Lastly, we provide a framework to facilitate the distribution of content metadata and schedules from networks to affiliates and between individual stations. BSD: What's new for Myers at NAB this year? CAM: This year we are featuring new versions of ProTrack with significant enhancements to areas where increasing demands are being placed. This includes ProTrack's ability to effectively manage multiple incoming and outgoing mes- sages at any one time so that it is the pri- mary system for managing all metadata and scheduling of content to multiple dis- tribution points. One example of this is Myers (Con't. from p. 1) our newly incorporated "Live Log" func- tionality to Automation via BXF. In addi- tion, we've streamlined workflows, added new sales functionality for non- linear content distribution, and improved our UI. The challenge is to constantly add features and functionality, while at the same time, reducing the steps required to execute the task. BSD: What makes Myers distinctive? CAM: We have been developing broad- cast management software for more than 25 years. During this time, we have grown significantly and our product has evolved to meet the needs of our clients and demands of the industry. But our most distinctive feature is our team. All of our development, support, and instal- lation teams are experienced in the indus- try and are located in-house. This has allowed us to be proactive with our prod- technology that tracks people or objects in a 3D spatial environment, delivering realtime positioning data to pan/tilt/zoom cameras and motorized lighting instru- ments. In our booth you'll see people walking around, being followed by lights and an HD camera, with the video dis- played on 80-inch screens above our stage. You won't find a single camera or lighting operator in the booth. That's the power and impact of our integrated tech- nology. BSD: No operators at all? That has some very interesting implications. GD: Absolutely. Production executives and managers want and need to reduce operating costs and increase productivity and reliability with the possibility of enhancing the quality of the output. Our robust, sophisticated automation technol- ogy allows users to produce high quality video and lighting content with a solution unlike any other on the market. When you invest in technology, not only do you have to recover your cost, but the solu- tion must also perform as well as or even better than promised. The bottom-line is profitability. BSD: What does BlackTrax bring to the relationship, and how does it work? GD: BlackTrax is a powerful, accurate and cost-effective tracking technology solution that delivers precise 3D and 6D positioning to controllers for interfacing automated/robotic technologies used extensively in event production. Using proprietary IR and RF, it delivers dynam- ic streaming positional data with six degrees of freedom (x, y, z, plus roll, pitch and yaw) to 3D and spatial audio, automated lighting, multimedia servers and robotic cameras―all at the same Rushworks (Con't. from p. 1) customers and end users to ensure the product set remains up to date and viable for today's market requirements, as well as future. Staying current based on an ever changing market dynamic will ensure the product line's long term sus- tainability and survivability. BSD: To what do you attribute your com- pany's success? BD: OCC's success is based on our ability to react quickly to market demands and changes as well as overall customer require- ments. This allows us to stay on top of tech- nological advances and bring dynamic and innovative solutions to the marketplace. Our products range from small form factor hermaphroditic fiber optic connectors to harsh environments RJ-45 devices to complete fiber optic cable assemblies. Our unique reeling products, including our MARS reeling systems, have been field proven in the most demanding applications and environments. BSD: What products do you see as being hottest this year? BD: In terms of field broadcast applications, being able to set up entire video and audio transmission links quickly is imperative. Components that facilitate quick deployment and retrieval of physical plant products, such as our MARS line of reels and reeling systems, will be in high demand. BSD: What distinguishes your product(s) from the competition? BD: Our field broadcast products are not only designed for harsh environ- ment installations, they are also avail- able with the widest range of options available. Our reeling systems are available with a wide range of reel sizes for various lengths of fiber optic or copper based cables. These reels are lightweight, can take an incredible amount of abuse, and come with a vari- ety of deployment options including A- frames, backpacks, transit cases, tri- pods, bumper mounts and cartridge systems. All of these features, plus the many fiber optic cable design options available make the OCC solution the Optical Cable Corp. (Con't. from p. 1) most advanced in the industry. BSD: Compare the position of your products and their technology against the current market. BD: With few exceptions, the market- based products generally offered are based on technology that has been around for many years. What differentiates our products is that we've taken the time to really examine the products, listened to the consumer's concerns, and then adapt- ed and improved our product lines to address these issues―resulting in a col- laborative product line that's truly in tune with customer needs. BSD: What is your outlook in general for this product line? BD: OCC continues to work with the AUDYSSEY BASSXT HITS THE ROAD Audyssey BassXT is a completely new development for improving a speaker's ability to deliver bass. Most bass-enhanc- ing technology works with a simple stat- ic bass boast. This can make the bass sound muddy and introduce other audio artifacts. Another strategy is to use high- er frequency harmonics of low notes to give the feeling of deeper bass. Audyssey BassXT takes a different approach to truly deliver lower notes and better bass. Audyssey uses technology to control the woofer. Since deeper notes are made by pushing more air, Audyssey monitors the song and, on the fly, allows the woofer to move farther when low notes are played. The more the woofer moves, the lower the notes it can play. In the past, manufacturers used large diameter woofers to move air, but BassXT is an innovation that sets a new standard. Audyssey's technology works in real time and produces full rich sound for a much better listening experience. The result of using Audyssey BassXT means smaller systems can match the performance of larger ones that use dedicated subwoofers. That is very Continued on Page 63
