C o n s t r u c t i o n M a r k e t p l a c e 6 5 Tu e s d a y, J a n u a r y 2 0 , 2 0 1 5 JS: Zoeller is an American small busi- ness success story. It is the largest and oldest privately owned submersible pump company in the U.S. We have sev- eral plants in the U.S. where we design, engineer and assemble equipment that moves and/or treats ground water, potable water and sewage water. Zoeller is known for doing business the old fash- ioned way, with face-to-face contact, hearty products and unmatched customer support. Our well known pumps are still made right here in Louisville, Ky. CM: You say "old fashioned," but Zoeller has created a bit of a shake-up in the battery backup sump pump market. What's going on in Louisville? JS: Zoeller prides itself on quality, serv- ice, integrity and innovation. We are innovating the Residential Flood Prevention (RFP) product line in signif- icant ways. But we needed to start with a high capacity DC pump that was made with the quality and efficiency Zoeller customers expect. When we couldn't find anything worthy of the Zoeller name among the imported bilge pumps that the industry commonly uses, we decided to make a DC pump ourselves. The result was the new Aquanot ® 508 DC pump. This pump is purposely designed as a DC sump pump, rather than a bilge pump, and it is machined, assembled and individually tested by Zoeller (Cont'd. from p. 1) Zoeller Company, right here in the U.S.A. It's the first of many new prod- ucts that home builders and owners will see in the near future. CM: You bring up innovation. Will prod- ucts such as sump pumps and alarms uti- lize the IoT (Internet of Things) wave of connected products? JS: Absolutely. In fact, RFP products are the perfect embodiment for IoT and con- nectivity. If you think about it, most of the available connected products such as thermostats, lights and music, have more to do with energy, convenience and enter- tainment. But RFP products are critical devices that protect the owner's property. Using today's technology, a thoughtfully built sump pump system can diagnose and communicate the information that helps prevent flooding. Our development in this area is impressive and we can't wait to show it off. CM: When will Zoeller be showing off these technologies? JS: I can't reveal a launch date, but soon. Our new wave of RFP products will allow builders, contractors and home- owners to utilize today's technology in important ways. It's a great time to be a Zoeller customer. SD: For more than 90 years, Schlage has been bridging the gap between security and design in decorative door hardware and locks, creating the strongest, most techno- logically advanced products that help con- sumers evolve their homes' personal style. Bringing exceptional strength and style to everything we design and build, Schlage's mechanical and electronic locks provide the highest grade security avail- able for today's homes. We give con- sumers the confidence they have done everything they can to fully protect the things that mean the most to them and offer a range of styles, from simple and classic to sleek and contemporary, in a variety of finishes to complement every home. CM: Schlage recently introduced The Keyless Era. Can you explain what that is? SD: In today's fast-paced world, Schlage believes that keyless is more – more con- venient, more secure and more in keeping with the needs of our modern, on-the-go lifestyles. We commissioned a survey among more than 2,000 U.S. adults that was conducted online by Harris Poll last fall and found that a majority (65 percent) would consider a keyless electronic lock if they could more easily access their home without compromising security, while more than half (53 percent) believe having a keyless lock on their door would save them time. (Survey conducted Sept 12-16, 2014 among 2,020 adults. For full survey methodology, contact Martha Pulido at Pulido@formulapr.com.) While keyless locks were previous Schlage (Cont'd. from p. 1) thought of as a thing of the future, The Keyless Era is here today. Keyless locks give people more control of their home security and at the same time, make life a little simpler. CM: In the past year, what new products has Schlage released in the marketplace that builders should be aware of? SD: Recently, Schlage announced the newest addition to our keyless electronic lock portfolio: Schlage Touch™. Designed to make the day a little less complicated, Schlage Touch provides easy, key-free access, so people with active lifestyles and busy schedules can simplify their day. With the ability to store 19 unique access codes, Schlage Touch provides homeowners with excep- tional convenience. Schlage also understands the impor- tant role design plays in showcasing self- expression and providing comfort in the home. As such, we introduced a collection of new transitional levers and knobs – the Sacramento Lever, Bowery Knob and Greyson Rose. In addition, we also signifi- cantly increased our finish offerings, intro- ducing 10 of our most popular contempo- rary styles in Matte Black, in response to the rapidly growing popularity of calm, earthy tones in home design. With these introductions, Schlage isn't just opening doors, we're opening eyes to forms that are perfect for traditionally classic, as well as modern, contemporary living spaces. DS: Having exhibited, manufactured and supplied folding sliding patio doors into the U.S. since 2009, we decided as a company that the most commercially viable option was to manufacture our products here so we would be better placed to service our increasing customer/client base with direct contact and availability of products. In the time we have been here, we have been able to work with multiple partners to bring the products to those that aren't familiar with the brand and didn't realize that there was more than one fold- ing sliding patio door manufacturer in North America. We have also successful- ly achieved accreditations for Florida Code, NFRC, AAMA and have success- fully tested for Miami-Dade approval. We established our Showroom facili- ty in Debary, Fla., showcasing all our fold- ing sliding door products and Fold N Slide Hardware along with our manufacturing facility including machinery investment and a full trained local work force. Working together with local suppli- ers for energy rated glass and ancillary items, we have successfully achieved our stated objective of manufacturing and supplying stateside. CM: Have you developed any products specifically for the U.S. market? DS: We developed our New Impact rated Aluminum folding sliding patio door to withstand the rigorous approval program achieving a DP70 rating on a dry glazed system. One of the main strengths of our Folding Sliding Door Company (Cont'd. from p. 1) company is the fact we take research and development seriously and together with our vast technical knowledge and experi- ence have continued to innovate. CM: You previously mentioned Fold N Slide Hardware. What can you tell our readers about that? DS: The Fold N Slide range is our signa- ture hardware system that is used on all our products and is available to companies wishing to build their own folding sliding door. It can be used on almost any materi- al and has already been through successful AAMA testing with a major Vinyl profile. CM: What is new for 2015? DS: This year looks to be another excit- ing year. Not only will we continue to build our two different Aluminum sys- tems here, but we will also begin state- side production of our highly successful Aluminum-Clad system all with manu- facture lead times of just four weeks. Added to this, we will be introducing our brand new FD75 glass wall system, targeted at the high end building market. This system will effectively give the "iPhone" look to any home or business; it is a truly beautiful door and we are huge- ly excited to finally be able to offer it after extensive trials in Europe. Also, we are actively seeking new dealerships throughout the U.S. to further develop our network. The Fold N Slide hardware range offers opportunities to fabricators to further enhance their own product ranges by introducing a folding sliding patio door option.
