C o n s t r u c t i o n M a r k e t p l a c e Tu e s d a y, J a n u a r y 2 0 , 2 0 1 5 3 6 TOTAL JOISTS INCREASE PROFIT MARGINS AND DECREASE BUILD TIME iSPAN Systems has helped solve tradi- tional building challenges with Total Joists, the first steel joists designed specifically for wood framing and multi- residential construction. Total Joists are unique 'I' shaped steel joists that inte- grate seamlessly with wood construction, allowing standard construction practices for wood wall framing, engineered rim board perimeter and wood sheathing to remain. iSPAN President Mike Strickland developed the concept in 2003, combining his industry insights and years of trade experience. Strickland says that Total Joists are gaining popularity with multi-residential construction. Total Joists can save builders up to 10 percent on their floor assembly costs, as well as weeks off their construction schedule. One big advan- tage is that Total Joist's pre-cut service holes allow HVAC and plumbing to be run through the joists in place of running services below the ceiling, avoiding the cost, time and the often-unwanted appearance of bulkheads. Services also can be roughed-in while the building is still being constructed instead of having to wait until the building is fully enclosed and water-tight. Because they are steel, Total Joists have a much simpler floor assembly to achieve a one hour fire rating, requiring only one layer of drywall with fiberglass insulation. Total Joists are the only ply- wood sheathed floor system with a one hour fire rating and 50 STC acoustic rat- ing with only one layer of drywall. Total Joists are also much stronger and stiffer than wood with unmatched clear span capabilities, allowing them to span further and reduce the amount of load bearing walls and foundations required, thus saving building height and finish costs. Total Joists are manufactured at the company's plant in Princeton, Ontario. The product has been around for over 10 years and has been used in projects throughout Ontario, as well as from Alberta to Newfoundland, the U.S, and even Haiti and Saudi Arabia. iSPAN Systems deals direct with the customer and has its own in-house engineering department for joist drawings and layout. iSPAN uses BIM technology to create and manufacture joists to length for each project including precise service hole placement to match the mechanical for easy trade co-ordinating, joist layouts and divi- sioning for easy job installation and inter- ference checks, and complete accessory takeoff and supply for proper installation and quality assurance. iSPAN also has dedicated technical representatives that work with contrac- tors, architects and engineers from design through construction to help co-ordinate details such as ductwork, floor penetra- tions and other aspects to ensure the developer and future home owner receive the system's full advantages. U.S. ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY NAMES DELTA FAUCET COMPANY 2014 WATERSENSE MANUFACTURER PARTNER OF THE YEAR The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has recognized Delta Faucet Company, the manufacturer of Delta ® , Brizo ® and Peerless ® products, as a 2014 WaterSense ® Manufacturer Partner of the Year. This marks the third time in four years that Delta has received this recognition for its commitment to water efficiency and efforts to educate U.S. consumers about the WaterSense program. "Delta Faucet Company was found- ed on innovation," said Jai Shah, Delta Faucet Company President. "As a WaterSense partner since the program's inception, and a three-time WaterSense Manufacturer Partner of the Year, we will continue to focus our innovative spirit on creating products that transform every- day interactions with water and help peo- ple save water without sacrificing their experience or style." First recognized as a WaterSense Manufacturer Partner of the Year in 2011, Delta Faucet Company continues to sup- port WaterSense labeled products and water efficiency by ensuring 100 percent of its bathroom collections offer a faucet and showerhead meeting EPA's efficien- cy and performance criteria. These efforts, coupled with a coast-to-coast water efficiency campaign in celebration of the EPA's annual Fix a Leak Week, helped the company secure its second WaterSense Manufacturer Partner of the Year recognition in 2013. In 2013, the company expanded its WaterSense labeled offerings to include two electronic bath faucets: the Delta Dryden™ faucet with Touch2O.xt™ Technology and the Brizo Odin™ single-handle faucet with SmartTouchPlus™ Technology. Both lavatory faucets allow the flow of water to be activated via touch or hands-free proximity sensing and automatically stop the flow of water after a period of time to help users reduce water waste without changing their behaviors. By producing and promoting WaterSense labeled products, WaterSense partners like Delta Faucet helped Americans save 271 billion gal- lons of water in 2013 alone – enough water to supply all U.S. homes for 26 days. More than 1,500 utility, manufac- turer, retail, builder, and organizational partners helped WaterSense realize these accomplishments. Every year, a select few are recognized for their significant program contributions. "EPA is pleased to honor this impressive group of WaterSense pro- gram leaders," said Ken Kopocis, Deputy Assistant Administrator in EPA's Office of Water. "Their efforts to build strong, resilient water systems are helping communities nationwide meet challenges of extreme weather events, drought, and other effects of our chang- ing climate." DUST AND HOUSEHOLD ODORS NO MATCH FOR THE NEW FEBREZE AIR PURIFIER Stale and stinky bedrooms, dorm rooms, ripe kitchen odors and dusty, musty base- ments are just a few scenarios that rub the nose the wrong way, but these don't stand a chance against the new Febreze™ Air Purifier. This powerful air purifier removes particles that are typically invis- ible to the naked eye but can contribute to household odors and dust build-up on surfaces. The Febreze air purifier does triple duty: it cleans the air through HEPA-Type filtration that removes up to 99 percent of airborne particles such as dust, pollen, pet dander, pet fur and other airborne contaminants, it traps household odors and it adds a fresh Febreze scent to the filtered air. "Keeping up with dusting alone can be an overwhelming, time intensive task," says Julie Edelman, The Accidental Housewife and expert in healthy home keeping and maintenance. "Add to that the challenge of odor elimi- nation that comes with pets, dirty laun- dry, damp basements, teenagers, sports equipment and the never ending variety of smells coming from the kitchen, and you have your hands full. The new Febreze Air Purifier does a powerful job of continuously cleaning the air of dust, pollen, pet hair and more and it helps restore the feeling of freshness to your home, so you can feel confident that cleaner, fresher air is circulating in your room." In addition to providing exceptional air cleaning and freshening, Febreze air purifiers are easy to use, requiring a sim- ple dual-action HEPA-Type filter that lasts up to four months. User-friendly controls help customize the air purifier for every room's needs, with three air- cleaning levels and a freshness control dial for the Febreze air purifier scent car- tridge – so you control the scent. Automatic scent and filter replacement indicator lights remind the user to replace the scent cartridge and/or filter to ensure optimal performance. The air purifiers come with the Febreze dual action HEPA-Type filter (one or two filters, depending on model) and one Febreze Linen & Sky™ scent cartridge.
