Maxxon is excited to introduce the Acousti-MaT ® HP Series of high per- formance sound control mats. Acousti- Mat II HP, Enkasonic HP and Acousti- Mat 3 HP provide upgraded sound con- trol through the addition of a high per- formance acoustical fabric that is lami- nated to the bottom of the mat's entan- gled mesh core. Topped with a high-strength Maxxon Underlayment, Acousti-Mat II HP increases the acoustical performance of a wood floor/ceiling assembly by up to 16 IIC points and up to 20 points over concrete construction. Requiring only a 1-inch topping, Acousti-Mat II HP adds sound control without adding to the over- all floor height. Enkasonic HP requires only a 1-1/2- inch topping yet adds significant impact sound control. Enkasonic HP increases the IIC levels of the floor/ceiling assem- bly by up to 18 points over wood frame construction and up to 25 points over concrete construction. Acousti-Mat 3 HP increases the IIC levels of the floor/ceiling assembly by up to 22 points over wood frame construction and up to 30 in concrete construction (vs no mat). At a height of 0.75 inch and requiring only a 1-1⁄2-inch reinforced topping, Acousti-Mat 3 HP provides ultimate sound control without signifi- cantly increasing the overall floor height. The Acousti-Mat HP Series of sound control solutions is always man- ufactured with 40 percent pre-con- sumer recycled content. They are con- sidered "green" building materials and may help contribute points to LEED ® project certification. Maxxon Corporation is the leading provider of floor underlayments and floor sound deadening sys- tems. Maxxon products are used in new construction and renovation projects of commercial, retail and industrial facilities as well as single family and multifamily housing. They are available through authorized dealers located throughout North America. For additional information, please con- tact Nicole Hills at 763.478.9600 or email Nicole at nicole@maxxon.com. HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT IMPRESSES WITH WATERFENCE For a high school science project hatched less than a year ago, 14-year-old Steven McDowell's WaterFence has done pretty well. Named as one of the most innova- tive products at Greenbuild 2014 by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC), the water fence looks like a standard solid residential fence, but each six-foot high, seven-foot long, 14-inch wide section holds 300 gallons of rain- water runoff through a connection to the roof's gutter system. When Steven set out to create a water conservation entry for his school's science fair, he looked around at the existing technology and saw only rain barrels and cisterns. The teen had an idea: what if water could be stored in a fence surrounding a house? Calculating what such a fence around his family's northern California home could hold in water – 13,000 gallons for a fence six feet in height and 14 inches wide – Steven thought he might have an alternative to the 18-foot tall, 12-feet around eyesore of a cistern that it would take to hold the same amount of water. The teen's prototype – complete with a miniature two-story house, trees and corn stalks within the confines of a clear plastic fence – cleaned up at science fair after science fair, winning first prize at his high school's event, the county science fair, and then the San Francisco Bay Area Science Fair. After patenting the idea and forming a busi- ness, WaterFence, with his family, including father and President Ken McDowell, Steven finds himself in the new role of entrepreneur. The company has fielded inquiries from representatives of countries including the United Kingdom, Bermuda, Taiwan, Australia and the Philippines, along with most U.S. states. The entire process, "from Steven's brain to project to product," according Ken McDowell, took only nine months, with engineers and business advisers helping along the way. The company is in the final stages of testing before it will begin sales of the WaterFence, with a focus on new residential housing developments. The fence's facade can be customized, from stone to vegetable garden to a red- wood fence-type or other. In addition, when fitted with a pump, the fence can be used to sprinkle the roof of a house in the event of an approaching fire, with that water then being recollect- ed into the fence for future use. INFRA-FLOOR BY SAUNACORE Saunacore™ is one of the world's most extensive manufacturers of sauna and steam bath products. Innovation is its key to success. The company is introducing the Zero EMF full floor radiant heating system for the modular pre-fab infrared sauna rooms. The floor/base of your sauna emits an evenly soothing warm radiant heat right across the entire floor area. The radiant floor is covered with a decorative modern ceramic tile, which complements the beauty of the handcrafted Canadian made cedar sauna cabin by Saunacore. The floor's radiant heat enhances comfort to the sauna bather because radi- ant systems warm the floor and the objects in the room. This prevents your body from losing heat to cold objects in the room – which usually is the sauna floor. It allows the bather to get total body infrared coverage. This is due to the scientific fact that heat energy is always drawn to cold objects. When we stand on a cold floor or next to a cold wall, we feel cold. This has noth- ing to do with the air tempera- ture, and everything to do with the fact that heat is being lost from our bodies to warm up the cold objects around us. The radiant characteristics of the INFRA-FLOOR™ is that it emits zero EMF (electromagnetic fields), it is evenly and entirely spread across the sauna floor, it is very durable, flexible, low wattage and long lasting. The INFRA- FLOOR is engineered to radiate at approx- imately 12 watts per square foot, just enough to soothe the bathers, while keeping its operation efficient. Infra-Core now offers a way to efficiently control this with its exclusive INFRA-FLOOR radiant floor heating system. Available on the INFRA-CORE™ Max and INFRA-CORE Premium Series. INNOVATIVE SOLUTIONS FOR BUILDING PENETRATIONS IN RESIDENTIAL, COMMERCIAL APPLICATIONS By Jon Allen, Director of Sales, Greenskin Seals Gabe Coscarella, President of Greenskin Seals, invented a product that is an inno- vative solution for all typical building penetrations. This new, patent pending product allows all common penetrations to be sealed with a friction fit, making the seal weather tight. This seal improves installation by removing the need for caulking, taping or nailing and merely slips over the penetration for a secure seal. This unique design has spacer buttons to allow airflow behind the seal, avoiding moisture from becoming trapped. Greenskin Seals are available in a wide range of standard sizes for all plumbing, electrical and HVAC sized penetrations. Each seal is manufactured for a friction fit collar to ensure a tight seal. This polyethylene material is 17ml thick allowing for a nice integration with the building wrap, as well as all types of siding, stucco and masonry installations. The installation is an easy process. First, choose the appropriate size. Second, work the open- ing of the seal around the pipe, cable, conduit or fitting, and finally, grab both sides of the seal pushing it flush to the wall of the building. Install the building wrap top side over the Greenskin Seal and the bottom side under the seal – and you're done. Greenskin Seals also has a complete line of faceplates to ensure a weather tight finish with siding, stucco, etc. This product provides a durable and decora- tive finish for any building penetration. The white UV rated PVC material is paintable and will not rust, rot, swell or peel, and comes with either a rubber back or Greenskin backing. Ultra Faceplates combine the deco- rative finish of our faceplates and the many benefits of our Greenskin Seals. Ultra Faceplates have concealed mount- ing brackets that eliminate the need to screw through the front face, leaving a clean and professional look. The Greenskin back- ing and thick faceplate removes the need for drip flanges and end dams. The spac- er buttons provide space between walls and skin, releasing any trapped moisture that may collect in the wall cavity. Faceplates can be customized for unique applications. Greenskin Seals offers a Meter Pocket solution. The Meter Pocket is designed to be weather resistant, elimi- nating all leakage problems from wind, driving rain and snow. This creates a self- draining barrier around the meter box. For more information, call Jon Allen at 714.473.7924, visit www.green skinseals.com or stop by booth #C6451.
