Kitchenware News & Housewares Review Show Daily 3 5 Sunday, March 15, 2020 Viatek's WeedErase Beautifies Your Yard Without Chemicals Viatek Consumer Products Group contin- ues to push past the cusp of innovation, bringing to market life-changing items that consumers could never imagine. The newest of these, the WeedErase, not only makes lawn maintenance easier, but also safer. Weed removal is a tiresome, unwieldy process that can inadvertently kill grass and flowers, too. Trying to get the perfect lawn could unintentionally leave your yard with infertile, parched spots. The most common form of weed removal is by spraying expensive chemi- cals, which can be a hassle to tote from the store to the car. They also tend to affect unwanted areas, and most horrify- ingly have been revealed to have carcino- genic properties. Another option, propane removal, can be equally as cumbersome, requiring huge tanks and causing all in the user's path to go up in flames. Viatek's WeedErase, however, employs a far safer and more efficient technique. The WeedErase uses a new patented technology, which concentrates light to kill weeds at the root level. While the light travels down to the source of the weeds, it is targeted to avoid damaging other plants. The infrared light emitted by WeedErase creates heat to cut off the water supply of weeds, while ultraviolet light penetrates the ground to disrupt the root system itself. With a slim design reminiscent of a weed eater, as well as a dome that sculpts the amount of light being imparted, WeedErase is far easier to aim and control than other options. In a matter of about a week after applica- tion, yards and gardens will be left free of weeds, dry patches or discoloration. The product comes with rechargeable batteries, a 10- foot cord and a carry bag. The WeedErase has successfully killed numerous types of weeds, including rag weed, dandelion, crabgrass, foxtail, dallis grass and several others. Visit Viatek's booth at the show to get an up- close view of the WeedErase in person. GEFU Introduces Many New Green Products This Year Founded in 1943, Gebrüder Funke KG (GEFU) has been a specialist in slicers, graters, peelers, choppers, presses, and of course, the classic product: the FLOTTE LOTTE ® food mill, which has been pro- duced virtually unaltered over the past 75-plus years. From the beginning, craftsmanship was combined with the idea of making life easier for the home cook. GEFU is still pursuing this goal – but in a more diverse form with a great many more products. Among the new products being introduced this year are many new "green products" with the goal of sustainability. One of the excep- tional examples of this effort is the Conscio Coffee Capsules. These stain- less-steel containers are made to be used indefinitely and should be includ- ed as part of your coffee making rou- tine. Only one in every five single use coffee capsules is recycled. Their use would be a small contribution towards protecting the increasingly cluttered oceans (and other waterways) by avoid- ing needlessly wasting plastic and sav- ing on aluminum. At the same time, you would be able to continue trying out new coffee varieties and experiment with your own mixes. One new inventive, sustainability product is the BEESWAYS beeswax wraps. They are a clever environmentally friendly alternative to kitchen foil and cling wraps, easy to clean and long lasting. Among possible uses: cov- ering, packaging or freezing food. It is flexible and fits all shapes and sizes of food and containers. The wraps can be used for up to two years. Wipe clean with cold water and allow to air dry. They are made of cotton, beeswax, jojoba and tree resin. GEFUs popular glass straws are another area focused on sustainability. They can come with a handy carrying case and come in multi- ple colors and include a cleaning brush. The area of packag- ing and shipping has also seen some significant eco-friendly changes. GEFU has become near- ly plastic free in this area. There are no poly- bags around inner cartons since the beginning of 2019. GEFU has not used air-cushion pillows in cartons since December 2019. One of the few excep- tions is in the delivery of unpacked prod- ucts (for example, PRIMELINE and blis- ters). For more information, go to www.gefu.com or stop by booth #N7908. Keep Your Favorites Looking Fresh with Gleener As consumers are altering their buying habits and shifting toward brands that help them lead a more sustainable lifestyle, Gleener Fabric Shaver & Lint Brush receives thousands of five-star online reviews for prolonging the life of clothing and upholstery. The battery-free fabric shaver that was once a best kept secret amongst knitters and the DIY community is now hitting the mainstream with online reviewers sharing before and after pho- tos of their favorite sweaters and furni- ture. The #slowfashion movement and the rising popularity of sustainability has many consumers choosing quality and longevity over price. The emphasis is moving towards the art of clothing and design, celebrating the skill of the crafts- people and the environmental impact of the materials being used. Clothing, linens and upholstery made from high- quality fibers are prone to form pilling and fuzz over time. Cashmere and Merino wool sweaters are notorious for pilling, and even high-end upholstery will collect fuzz and pet hair. A quick online search to troubleshoot these issues leads consumers to reviews for Gleener Fabric Shaver and how it is a gentle, effective and battery-free solu- tion. Kim Cole, Founder of Gleener explains, "Our customers love that Gleener works so well without needing batteries. We actually calculated recently that Gleener has elim- inated the need for over 17,500,000 bat- teries since we started selling our first units nine years ago. We are not only saving your favorite sweaters, we are also helping to save the planet from toxic bat- teries." Cole has also been pushing her team to come up with more sustainable pack- aging concepts, recently switching acetate packaging to eco-friendlier carton options: "Our new carton packaging is not only reducing our carbon footprint; it also has a more eco aesthetic which appeals to today's consumer." Gleener is debuting new eco branding and showing off its lineup of fabric care products at the show in the North Hall, booth #N7935. About Gleener Bringing you thoughtful- ly and beautifully designed products to help you get the most joy – and the longest life – from your favorite cloth- ing and home textiles. As trusted makers of Gleener Fabric Shaver & Lint Brush, Gleener On the Go, Gleener Dryer Dots and other innovative fabric care products, Gleener has won multi- ple design and innovation awards and has been featured in leading publica- tions.
