C o n s u m e r E l e c t ro n i c s D a i l y N e ws 7 3 Tu e s d a y, J a n u a r y 6 , 2 0 1 5 Winning the Gold Award for Innovation at the 2014 National Hardware Show, Las Vegas, a 2014 International Home and Housewares Innovation Finalist Award, Chicago, and a 2014 New Product Innovation award from Bucknell University's Small Business Development Center, Lewisburg, Pa., the Portable Cabinet Mount is gaining momentum in the marketplace. "CES was the next natural fit for Upper Desk," said Matthew Fidler, CEO, of the innovative start-up that offers uni- versal and portable smart device mount- ing products. "We want to make our com- pany and products known to the con- sumer electronics industry." With resellers such as Office Depot, Walmart, Kutola's, Amazon and Rockler Woodworking, Upper Desk's Portable Cabinet Mount has five star customer rat- ings. Based on its success, Upper Desk recently launched a new product – The Portable Table Mount for Tablet PCs. The Portable Table Mount secures a smart device on a desk, workbench, kitchen island or table, while the Portable Cabinet Mount suspends technology slightly below a cabinet or shelf. The Portable Cabinet Mount frees up valu- able countertop space while allowing access to the cabinet. It's perfect for Skyping, researching on-line recipes and streaming movies in the kitchen. Upper Desk ( Cont'd. from p. 1) Universal, both products adjust to securely hold smart phones and tablets alike – all makes and models. Using the Easy Latch System, a quick clamp mechanism, the mounts install in seconds without tools, negating the need to drill or permanently mar mounting surfaces with sticky adhesive. "Our consumers have praised the qual- ity of our products and the ease of their use," said Phillips, who is also Vice President of product development, Upper Desk. In addition, the case compatible products have a rotating arm and angled settings to help reduce glare and enhance tablet use while protecting technology from harmful spills and drops. High quality metal and plastic con- struction offer unmatched sturdiness and durability for long-term repetitive use. "Most other mounts tend to leave tablet users with a 'bobble' head effect when tapping a smart screen," said Phillips-Taggart, President of Upper Desk. "Our mounts are stable and durable – designed to outlast your technology." Portable, Upper Desk mounts can be used in home, industrial, medical and office settings, hence the company's tagline of "placing technology where you need it." Upper Desk was formed by the father/daughter duo in honor of a loved one who left behind a special last wish. As a well-established technology company, we specialize in imaging and HTML5 document viewing. So we're excited to bring enterprise-level compression technology used in our other products to a consumer-level application. CEDN: What does Cram offer that sepa- rates it from other apps on the market? JB: Other compression applications on the market may have somewhat broader feature sets, but they deliver inferior image compression. Cram is an enter- prise-grade compression product, based on unique Accusoft in-house technology, packed into your handheld device. We keep it simple and get it right. CEDN: Who do you envision using this compression application? JB: Everyone. This is a product that is easy to use regardless of your technical capabilities. It empowers everyday users to store two-thirds more images on their device, send more of their pictures at once, save on data rates – all while main- taining the quality of the image. People are able to share to social media and email directly from the app, which keeps the process simple even for the less tech- savvy folks. CEDN: Mobile devices have an increas- ing amount of memory and compatibility with external media cards and cloud stor- age. Why is compression necessary? JB: The internal memory of phones con- sistently lag behind the actual space need- ed. Options like external media cards can be lost, and as we've seen in the news, cloud storage can be hacked. Using Cram enables you to store more of your photos on your device securely without damaging Accusoft ( Cont'd. from p. 1) fidelity. In addition to security, it provides users with the convenience of having all of their images at their fingertips. Wouldn't you rather share a smaller JPEG with full resolution than let Outlook or your phone text destroy the quality? CEDN: Photographers and designers see "compression" as a dirty word because of decades of bad experiences with com- pression technology. How are you chang- ing their minds? JB: The enterprise-level compression tech- nology we use within this application was created by our scientists to be the best in the world. It's actually designed to empower software developers to build dynamic imaging applications, but within Cram, it's a powerful tool for the everyday mobile device user. Photo file sizes on mobile devices grow larger as camera phone qual- ity improves. Our technology allows users to preserve the impeccable quality of their photos at a more data-friendly size without image degradation or pixelization. CEDN: How is Accusoft expanding its presence in the mobile space? JB: Our cloud product and mobile appli- cation, Prizm Share, helps everyone from an individual to a small business to an organization share documents and images online and increase their web presence. When a document is uploaded onto Prizm Share, a text version and a tag cloud are automatically populated, which can increase the user's Search Engine Optimization rankings. With customiz- able and personalized templates, the user can define who they are to anyone on any device using dozens of document types. Visit Accusoft at booth #26724. CEDN: What would you say makes your company unique? PP: There are virtually no versatile digi- tal tether devices on the market right now. With three models, we are prepared with a product that can be used with a variety of digital devices by diverse groups of users. CEDN: Describe your company's cur- rent marketing strategy. PP: Frog's Tung has been on the market less than six months. Currently we mar- ket through online sales at Amazon, on our web site and in a small number of retail stores. We are looking for distribu- tors who work in the digital market industry and for placements in big box stores. Frog's Tung ( Cont'd. from p. 1) CEDN: Who are your target end-users?
