Powered by IBM Watson and Nuance, Xiaofa uses innovative speech recogni- tion technology to transfer visitor inquiries to designated service portals. "The Xiaofa humanoid robot is capable of memorizing and explaining over 7,000 Chinese laws and regulations, allowing it to assist visitors who would like to learn more about the litigation process, its rules and details of prior cases," said Zhao Lan, litigation manage- ment official at Beijing First Intermediate People's Court. Xiaofa's intelligent litigation servic- es will offer convenience to lawyers and citizens by reducing wait times and cost of resources, raising efficiency within a rapidly growing market. "Integrating robots is a cost-effec- tive, efficient way to provide important information to the public sector," said Ryan Wu, Vice President of QIHAN. "From the home to the factory and now to the courthouse, robotics-as-a-service is QIHAN (Cont'd. from p. 1) an instrumental industry solution that is transforming how we interact with the world around us." The Beijing First Intermediate People's Court is just one of the several government departments in the Chinese public sector to adopt artificial intelli- gence and robotic services. About QIHAN Technology Co. Ltd. Headquartered in Shenzhen, China and founded in 2006, QIHAN Technology Co. Ltd. is a company focused on inno- vations in robotics, artificial intelligence (AI) and data analysis. Insight is suited for international use with sup- port for 20/20, 6/6 and other standardized units. EyeQue Optometry Advisor, Careen Caputo, O.D., MPH states that, "The Insight visual acuity screener is a major technological advancement in personalized health monitoring, allow- ing people to assess their visual acuity in the comfort of their home. The Insight's random tumbling-E chart pro- vides a simple and accurate measure- ment of an individual's visual acuity. This is a valuable benefit to patients, allowing them to check how well they see without correction – or with their current glasses or contact lenses." "There is a global myopia epidemic in part due to increasing time spent indoors and heavy use of mobile phones and laptops. The recommended annual doctor's visit is insufficient in detecting the rapid onset of nearsightedness, which occurs in up to 40 percent of children, ages 6-18," said John Serri, PhD, CTO and co-Founder of EyeQue. "When caught early enough, mitigation can be taken, avoiding life-long burdens associ- ated with severe myopia. Our goal is to get low-cost, accurate vision screening tools like the EyeQue Insight directly into people's hands so vision changes can be identified early." The EyeQue Insight: screens vision for 20/20 to 20/400 in under 3 minutes, providing exact measures of single and dual eye performance; creates a digital vision history– where a change indicates that a doctor's visit would be advised; tests the accuracy of current glasses or contacts, indicating when an updated prescription may be required; instantly records and securely stores results, mak- EyeQue (Cont'd. from p. 1) ing data available to share with others. One EyeQue Insight can be shared with many people, making it a value for fam- ilies and suitable for testing large groups. About EyeQue Insight The conventional wall chart used to assess visual acuity in most physicians' offices requires a 20-foot testing distance and a person to administer the test. Illuminated charts used in eye care prac- tices can optically reduce the testing dis- tance and control for lighting challenges found with static wall charts, but still require someone to administer the test. The EyeQue Insight allows adults and children 6 and above to self-adminis- ter a visual acuity test anywhere, any- time using their own supported smart- phone. The light-weight, rugged binocu- lar viewer attaches to a smartphone and uses the myEyeQue app to administer the test. The Insight can be used to track vision changes and to test the accuracy of current glasses or contacts. One EyeQue Insight can be shared with multiple peo- ple, each using individual accounts to ensure accurate records. The binocular viewer is part of an expandable platform, supporting future vision tests and appli- cations. About EyeQue EyeQue is on a global mission to elevate eye care. The company is dedicated to inspiring people to learn about and care for their eyes by putting affordable, accu- rate vision tests directly into their hands. Based on patented technologies, EyeQue's intelligent vision solutions allow people anywhere to self-administer vision tests using an optical smartphone attachment, mobile application and a secure cloud-based service. The compa- ny innovates from its Silicon Valley headquarters. How These Tesla & Apple Engineers Reinvented the Baby Monitor A few years ago, Tesla engineer Siva Nattamai's first child was born. He and his wife quickly realized that the standard baby monitors that were available on the market did nothing to alleviate the con- cern that most new parents have: Is my baby really okay when she's sleeping in her crib? "With other baby monitors, you could see your child, but just seeing an image didn't really tell you anything about their well-being." Siva continues, "As most engineers would do, I started exploring ways to obtain vital signs mon- itoring that could give us peace of mind. But the idea of attaching something to our tiny daughter's skin or clothing just seemed risky, and I didn't want to use sonar or radar, shooting rays at a baby." In his spare time, Siva continued working on this idea with a friend, Pavan Kumar, who was working in engineering at Apple. Finally, the call of entrepre- neurship was too strong: Siva left his role at Tesla, Pavan left his role at Apple, and Cocoon Cam was born. "We landed on the idea of creating a hybrid hardware-software system using Computer Vision, then we had a signifi- cant breakthrough and filed a patent. That led to our acceptance into an accel- erator program in Silicon Valley, during which we raised our first million dollars. I've never looked back," said Siva. This concept has bloomed and grown into a thriving company that has since raised a total of over $5M in venture capital funding. At this year's CES show in Las Vegas, Cocoon Cam is excited to introduce its newest product, Cocoon Cam Clarity. Clarity is groundbreaking in many ways, including offering contactless vital signs monitoring through innovative Computer Vision and Artificial Intelligence technology, as well as deliv- ering instant alerts through parents' smartphones and even smart watch devices, so the parent is always aware when the baby needs their attention. Cocoon Cam's broad portfolio of patents ensures the company's position as the manufacturers of the only baby monitor- ing system in the world to offer contactless breathing monitoring in a single system with secure HD video and two way audio. With gorgeous, sleek industrial design worthy of the best consumer prod- ucts companies in the world, and the smartest of the smart baby monitors pow- ering the system, Cocoon Cam Clarity is truly the pinnacle of innovation in the baby monitoring space. Meet the founders and see the Clarity at booth #43558, Sands A-D. The Zigbee Alliance and Thread Group Address IoT Industry Fragmentation The Zigbee Alliance and Thread Group announced the availability of the Dotdot specification over Thread's IP network. This is the first time developers can con- fidently use an established, open and interoperable IoT language over a low- power wireless IP network, which will help unify the fragmented connected device industry and unlock new markets. "We're at an exciting point in the Smart Home where the broader consumer market is embracing mainstream connect- ed products; 26 percent of consumers own a smart home device according to our new research," said Tom Kerber, Director of IoT Strategy at Parks Associates. "To be competitive in a market where consumers will rely on these devices for years to come, companies must take a long-term view, aligning with technologies that will enable innovation and interoperability, and continue to deliver on the promise of the IoT for every stakeholder." Dotdot is the Zigbee Alliance's uni- versal language for the IoT, making it pos- sible for smart objects to work together on any network. Thread is the Thread Group's open, IPv6-based, low-power, secure and future-proof mesh networking technology for IoT products. These two leading organizations have come together to deliver a mature, scalable solution for IoT interoperability that isn't confined to single-vendor ecosystems or technologies. Delivering on the Promise of the IoT The early internet faced the same chal- lenges as today's IoT. Currently, connected devices can struggle to deliver a seamless experience because they speak different languages (or in technical terms, use differ- ent "application layers"). For the internet, the industry solved this problem with open, universal protocols over IP – a combination that unlocked and accelerated innovation. Dotdot's common device language over Thread's IP network extends this same proven approach to the Internet of Things. With Dotdot over Thread, product and plat- form vendors can ensure the high-quality, interoperable user experiences needed to drive growth, while IP allows vendors to maintain a direct connection to their device – and their customers. Simplified Product Development with Mature Technologies and Diverse Supply Chains It's important to note that Dotdot over Thread is not another new standard. Continued on Page 55
