W i r e l e s s W o r l d T h u r s d a y, S e p t e m b e r 1 0 , 2 0 1 5 4 IRIDIUM: A TRULY GLOBAL MOBILE SATELLITE COMMUNICATIONS COMPANY An interview with Tim Last, Vice President and General Manager of M2M, Iridium. WW: Tell us about Iridium and the industries it serves. TL: At our core, Iridium is the only mobile satellite communications compa- ny that provides truly global voice and data solutions for a wide range of people, organizations and assets – spanning adventurers, aviation, government and military, emergency responders, con- struction, maritime and transportation. Since I've started, the data and assets aspects of our business have grown sub- stantially with respect to M2M, reflecting the overall industry's growth. WW: Why is satellite important to M2M? TL: Whether it's a global shipping com- pany sending containers across land and sea, or an earthmoving vehicle trav- eling through cities and remote areas, it needs to be connected for effective monitoring, control and communication. While cellular seems to be everywhere, it only covers about 20 percent of the Earth's surface. These statistics clearly point to the need for a preemptive insurance program that not only insures the phone, but also protects it from impacts and water dam- age. Liquipel 360™ is a fresh new take on device insurance that combines the Liquipel Watersafe™ technology, SKINS ® impact screen protection and bundled insurance to create the ultimate preemptive protection program for con- sumer smartphones and tablets. This total phone protection program will soon be available from Brightstar. Through this partnership, Liquipel 360 will be readily available to dealers and retailers through Brightstar's vast distri- bution network. Mobile device retailers will see the true benefit of Liquipel 360 as it has been designed to increase revenue, reduce damaged device claims and increase cus- tomer satisfaction. Sales representatives can leverage Liquipel's Watersafe and Nano-Shock™ impact technology to upsell the c o n s u m e r. At the same time, cus- tomers are satisfied because of the confi- dence they feel as their expensive new device is protected from the moment they leave the store. Liquipel 360 also reduces insur- ance claims by preemptively protecting the device from damage. Less customer device replacements mean less money spent on replacing devices that would have otherwise been saved by Liquipel 360. As an added benefit, Liquipel 360 keeps the device protected, which allows for an A-stock level rating upon Continued on Page 33 Continued on Page 33 2015 Best of Show AN INDEPENDENT PUBLICATION NOT AFFILIATED WITH CTIA Lee M.
