Bro a d c a s te r s S h o w D a i l y 4 7 W e d n e s d a y, A p ri l 9 , 2 0 1 4 and energy creating a new line of anten- nas that are faster, lighter, lower-profile and more accurate. The last 18 months have seen the introduction of no less than 10 new antennas within our New Generation line of products. BSD: The industry is familiar with your Classic line of antennas. Can you describe more fully how the New Generation line is different? LK: Further to what I mentioned earlier, the New Gen line now includes Ka-band antennas. Many of these are also con- vertible from Ka to Ku, and vice versa. The new platform employs a belt drive system that provides for 'near zero' backlash, positive placement con- trol, and is lightweight, with an absolute minimum number of parts. Castings were invested in to provide the strength the base requires, and all of the parts were engineered to deliver the perform- ance mandated by our resellers' satellite operators. The design required the plat- form to accept specified RF compo- nents, and to be able to provide absolute repeatability of specifications. In addi- tion, these new antenna platforms require minimal maintenance. BSD: I understand the 'secret sauce' of your iNetVu antenna platform is the iNetVu Controller. Can you tell me more about your Controller? LK: The iNetVu 7024 was born to match the New Gen specifications. It has been integrated to work with over 30 different modems from different vendors. The existing model provided 12 volts DC with specific tactical input capacity, and the new platform requires 24 volts DC with completely new sen- sory devices. Not only would it address the new operation requirements, but would also offer the capability of using C-COM ( Cont'd. from p. 1) the Glonass GPS system. BSD: What is the industry in store for in the coming months and years? LK: Wait and see! Keep an eye out for our newsletters, as well as our appear- ances at most major trade shows. There's always something new for our iNetVu Resellers and the end-user communi- ty. New driveaways, flyaways and some new fixed motorized units coming too. Our research and development team has multiple projects on the go, so the indus- try can look forward to new and exciting products from C-COM. BSD: What have been C-COM's major accomplishments in the last year? LK: C-COM has reported its ninth profitable year in fiscal 2013 with rev- enues increased by 16.4 percent to $15,573,798. In addition, many of C-COM's New Gen products received important approvals to operate on major satellite networks/operators. Hughes Network Systems, LLC [HUGHES] has qualified the new generation iNetVu[R] Ku 981 antenna system for use with Hughes HN/HX Systems. The iNetVu FLY-75V antenna system received authorization from ViaSat Inc. [NASDAQ:VSAT] for use on ViaSat Exede[R] Enterprise Service. The iNetVu Ka-98G vehicle mount auto-polarisation antenna mobile has been also officially approved to oper- ate on Avanti's HYLAS 1 and HYLAS 2 Ka-band satellites. The iNetVu 1201 vehicle mounted auto-pointing antenna is now officially approved to operate on Eutelsat's Satellites constellation. It's one of the few 1.2m drive-away systems which has met all the auto-pointing char- acterization tests per the latest Eutelsat requirements. Now available from SAS are mod- ules for audio over ethernet and IP, AVB, AES67 IP transport mechanisms, IP CODECS for multiple facility 32KD interconnectivity and intercommunica- tions. Both linear and encoded transports makes the SAS the most flexible and ver- satile system available. Linear ingest of DAW audio and USB audio eliminates the need for PC sound cards while its line of encoder modules allow inter bit rate reduced transport without third party encoders. G.711 and AAC module encoders can also work with third party codecs that might already be in remote locations. Introducing at NAB 2014 SAS introduces the new Rubicon iSL console, a scalable digital console work surface with integrated meter bridge and monitor, headphone and cue speaker facilities. Fully compati- ble with all Rubicon SL modules and 32KD and RIO DSP engines, the iSL Sierra Automated Systems ( Cont'd. from p. 1) brings the cost of ownership down while still maintaining the high quali- ty and individual modularity of the Rubicon SL. A completely integrated telephone system with console controllers, VOIP interface and screener software elimi- nates the need for expensive handsets. Screeners simply use a USB headset anywhere, and transferring callers to air and back again is accomplished simply with a push of a button. The new telephone control modules have hi rez, animated display buttons creating a very intuitive and simple operation with the screener software. "Visual Radio" from SAS and Keycode Media provides a visual broadcast of your radio programming without a video operator and delivers simple and direct outputs to social media networking. Visual radio pro- vides a complete automated platform with auto tweets, instagramming and other social media along with automat- ed ad insertion, making it a powerful tool for generating new revenues. It now carries models for companies like Litepanels, Gekko, Lowel, TruColor, Flolight Ikan and Dracast, with more to come. Chimera also continues to find practical solutions in the way of kits, where all the components for a specific application are included. It has recent- ly introduced the Lantern Boom Kit. This kit contains a small standard lantern with the mogul socket ring and a Chimera Lighting ( Cont'd. from p. 1) Manfrotto boom stand combination with counterweight bag. Kits come with either a 500 watt or 1000 watt lamp. Another favorite kit, The Combi Kit, is great for small production outfits or start-ups. It allows sculpting of your light with three banks of different sizes and shapes: an XS and small Video Pro plus a small Video Pro Strip bank. You can see the innovative lighting products first hand by stopping by booth #C5446 in the central hall. You can deliver better quality video. You use less storage. And viewers get a better, more reliable experience. BSD: What is the difference between the CRUNCH Stream Optimizer and an encoder? AM: The two have different, but comple- mentary roles. The encoder handles the initial compression and gets the video down to a manageable size at fixed bitrates. Even adaptive bitrate encoding really just creates tiers of fix bitrate streams. Those streams contain extra data in order to maintain that consistent bitrate. That's where CRUNCH comes in. CRUNCH finds and removes visually extraneous data from the encoded stream. BSD: Won't the viewer see a difference? AM: That's what makes CRUNCH unique. Our engineers have patented techniques we call Perception Optimized Processing, POP for short. We analyze every macro-block on the fly looking for visually redundant data. That's material the human eye won't detect. It is a sur- prisingly large amount, even after the best encoder has done its job. BSD: What kind of difference are we talking about? AM: The output is completely customiz- able. You can be as conservative or aggres- sive as needed. Just as an example, we're working with a major content provider to optimize ABR streams. We were able to Cinova ( Cont'd. from p. 1) maintain cinematic, 1080p-quality suitable for the largest home theater screens at a bitrate of just 4,250 kbps compared with the 6,050 kbps direct from their encoder. That's a 29 percent savings. At the other end of the spectrum, we are driving a consistently good stream in as little as 300-400kbps. BSD: Who is looking at CRUNCH? AM: CRUNCH is truly agnostic. We work with any encoded stream for any delivery network – content providers, services providers, network operators, as well as other video applications. In fact, we are not even limited to video. A top photo site has reduced image file sizes by up to 90 percent – they've processed more than 10 billion photos to date and gained control over their storage requirements. BSD: What are your expectations at NAB 2014? AM: We are very excited for the show. This is really a coming out party for our company, for the CRUNCH product, and for the entire category of Stream Optimization. Bandwidth is so precious, but consumer expectations for visual quality are high and their patience for stuttering, jittery video is minimal. In just a few hours, we can install CRUNCH between the encoder and the viewer to dramatically improve the situation. BSD: How can our readers find out more? AM: We have information, live stream- ing demos and more at www.cinova.co. For more information, visit www .cinova.co, email info@cinova.co or stop by booth #C2453C.
