Chain Drugstore Daily Monday, August 21, 2017 4 NEW PRODUCT FLASH TRACKS NEW PRODUCT INTRODUCTIONS Competitive Promotion Report, LLC (CPR) uses its "New Product Flash" tool to provide its clients with competitive intelligence on new products six to eight weeks prior to distribution in the market. The company has just released the Top 10 HBW Categories introducing new products in the past 12 months (June 1, 2016 through May 31, 2017). Some of the highlights from the Top 10 list include: 1. Hair Care – Shampoo/Conditioner (341 new products). Unilever, P&G, Garnier and Vogue International had nearly 75 percent of total new products introduced in this category with 92, 75, 45 and 42, respectively. Sixteen other manufacturers introduced mostly fewer than 10 new products each. 2. Soap (207 new products). Unilever, Colgate Palmolive, P&G and Johnson & Johnson had slightly more than 60 percent of total new product introductions in this category during this period with 42, 29, 22, 17 and 15 new products, respectively. Sixteen other manufacturers introduced 10 or fewer new products each. 3. Vitamins, Minerals & Supplements – VMS (201 new products). Lee Pharmaceuticals, Piping Rock Health Products and RB introduced a combined 97 new products during the past 12 months (64, 19 and 14 respectively) – 48 percent of the total in the VMS category. There were 29 other leading manufactur- ers with new product introductions, all in the single digits. 4. Vitamins (131 new products). Fifty-one percent of the new products introduced in the Vitamins category were DAVID BIERNBAUM: SUCCESSFUL AND "SMART!" Under Biernbaum's skilled brand- development leadership in 2016, SmartMouth oral rinses have grown to become a $21 MM brand, up 47 percent year over year, and SmartMouth's trends continue to accelerate into 2017, up 70 percent year over year through February, 2017. As a company, growth is up more than 57 percent in just over a year. Biernbaum summa- rizes SmartMouth's retail mission: "SmartMouth expands retail oral health solutions with innovation, science and technology, to create incremental category growth, pre- mium profits and exceptional shelf-space productivity."
