Consumer Electronics Daily News Thursday, January 5, 2017 1 6 FIFTY-THREE YEARS OF DILIGENCE, DREAMS & DIABETES By Judith Jones-Ambrosini, Dexcom Warrior For many years I wasn't open about my diabetes because I saw it as an imperfec- tion, a stigma. Things changed one night when I was at dinner with a large group of acupuncturists. I forgot to take my insulin before being seated. Realizing I was with people whose livelihood was needles, I casually gave myself an insulin shot at the table. It was a revolutionary moment for me. It was about that time when I established a friendship with my diabetes. This decision inspired me to be responsible for my diabetes care and live my life with a positive attitude. We can do everything we choose and live out our dreams without reluctance. A healthy attitude makes for a healthy life. Taking Charge Over the years I have learned to make friends with my diabetes and have become an active member in the diabetes community serving as a board member of the American Diabetes Association (ADA), Diabetes Exercise and Sports Association (DESA), Diabetes Sisters, Wise Women of Diabetes retreats and Divabetics, as well as a volunteer at Children With Diabetes (CWD). As a certified health educator and a professional chef, I provide healthy cooking demonstrations and spread the message of optimal glucose control at dia- betes conferences across the nation. Technology is the Future The technology of the Dexcom Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) System, insulin pumps and advanced medications are making it easier to live our diabetes lives with a more rhythmical beat. For me, technology is "the cure" at hand right now, and I constantly encourage other people living with diabetes to get on board if they are not there yet. Remember, diligence, discipline and direction can help to makes life's dream come true. For more information, visit www .dexcom.com. DOD TECH DASH CAMERAS: PROTECTION FOR THE FRONT AND BACK OF YOUR VEHICLE This year at CES 2017, DOD Tech Dash Cameras is showcasing its first dual channel dash camera lineup: the DOD LS500W+ model and the DOD RC500S. It's a first for DOD Tech and the wait was worth it, as both cameras are the first of their kind to offer full 1080p HD video on both channels – front and back. The difference between both is in their design, functionality and usability. The DOD RC500S is a thinner and more discreet camera that gets its sleek design by omitting the LCD screen on the back and requires users to operate it with the use of the DOD mobile app. With the app, users can program the camera, record video, review video and even share the video through WiFi. The DOD 500W+ is stylish in design and includes a 3-inch LCD screen and CPL filter for glare reduction and enhanced picture quality. Included in both models are the features that DOD Tech users have come to enjoy, such as motion blur reduction, WDR technology, automatic start up and shut off, loop recording, a high ISO of 12800 for superior night time video and a SONY Exmor senor. Vice President of DOD Tech North America Andy Wu is excit- ed for the launch of the highly anticipat- ed dual channel lineup. "Before we launched our dual channel lineup, we wanted to ensure that we did not com- promise our video quality. Many other options out there are already available, but offering you a dual channel solution at 720p video quality or even less. DOD Tech is proud of its tradition of being able to give drivers unmatched clarity in their driving videos and we will continue that tradition with our dual channel line- up." DOD Tech is at booth #5606 (North Hall) and has both cameras out on display along with a demo of its new "Ultra Night Vision" technology, which helps boost video clar- ity in absolute darkness. PRO ATHLETES' SLEEP TRACKER HELPS SENIOR CITIZENS LIVE INDEPENDENTLY Emfit QS is an ingenious health and well- ness tracker, now designed also with sen- iors' additional safety needs in mind. It improves the safety of seniors and helps maintain their independence, enabling them to live on their own for a longer time. There's absolutely nothing to wear or carry, and no need to turn equipment on and off – Emfit QS is completely dis- crete and undetectable. A highly durable sensor is simply installed under the mat- tress. Small electronics placed on the floor are either paired with WiFi or use cellular data connectivity. It tracks sleep quality and quantity, heart and breathing rates, and even heart rate variability. Changes in long-term trends can give very valuable information about health and wellness. Emfit QS also brings safety in one other way. Loved ones can receive a daily summary and notifications as push- notifications via a phone application or via email – for example, if a daily sleep routine changes considerably or if there is too long of an absence from bed at night. With Emfit QS, a senior citizen can easily track personal wellness and ensure better safety. Seniors can live longer by themselves, in their own homes, and family mem- bers won't need to worry about whether or not everything is okay. Heikki Raisanen, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of Emfit, shares an incident that happened to his mom: "I received a notification from Emfit QS on my phone telling me that my 88-year old mother, who lives three hours away, had possibly fallen down. It was 25 minutes past midnight. She had already been sleeping, but then left and had not returned to bed. I called my brother and told him to go check on our mother. Turns out, she had fallen, broken her hip and needed medical help. She had surgery and recovered well. Emfit QS truly pro- vides safety to the elderly living alone. Because, after all, who wouldn't want to live in their own home as long as possi- ble? We at Emfit want to make it possible." About Emfit Ltd. Founded in 1990 and headquartered in Finland, Emfit is the world's leading manufacturer of bed monitors. Emfit is also global leader in quasi-piezoelectric ferroelectret sensors and material for var- ious industries, including paper machin- ery, sports equipment, music instruments, touch-sensitive human interfaces, smart building solutions, etc. For more information, go to www.emfit.com or stop by booth #43539.
