A f t e r m a r k e t D a i l y N e w s Tu e s d a y, N o v e m b e r 3 , 2 0 1 5 2 0 STOLEN VEHICLES: A PROBLEM EVERYWHERE The problem of stolen vehicles is not going away, and is getting worse as vehicle and insurance costs continue to rise. 2013 Theft Statistics According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation's (FBI) Uniform Crime Reports, a motor vehicle was stolen in the U.S. every 45 seconds. The odds of a vehicle being stolen were one in 351 in 2012 (latest data available, based on motor vehicle registrations from the Federal Highway Administration, thefts from the FBI and calculated by the Insurance Information Institute). The odds are highest in urban areas. According to the FBI's Uniform Crime Reports, in 2013, 699,594 motor vehicles were reported stolen. In 2013, the South accounted for the largest share of thefts – 37.4 percent, followed by the West with 23.5 percent. The Midwest accounted for 21.4 percent of thefts and the Northeast for 17.7 percent. In 2013, only 14.2 percent of thefts were cleared, either by arrests or by exceptional means, compared with 20.7 percent for arson and 19.7 percent for all property crimes. Autos accounted for 73.9 percent of all motor vehicles stolen in 2013, trucks and buses accounted for 15.2 percent and other vehicles for 10.9 percent. Insurance Premiums The average comprehen- sive insurance premium in the U.S. rose 0.9 per- cent to $134.04 in 2012 from $132.78 in 2011 (the most recent data avail- able), according to the National Association of Insurance Commissioners. BEST Anti-Theft System by Auto Secure USA The basic mechanism of the system only allows authorized users with enrolled live fingerprint to access the system to start the vehicles. The system can be enabled or disabled any time with the live fingerprint security function. For instance, you may use the "Valet Mode" if you want to lend the vehicle to some- one or just need to valet your vehicle. This system is 100 per- cent innovative, func- tional and flexible. If anyone tries to start your vehicle without an authorized enrolled fin- gerprint, it simply will not start. The technology used is similar to what you see on the Apple iPhone 6, iPad and iPad mini; however, if someone tries to remove the sensor it will render the vehicle disabled. With BEST, your live fingerprint is the key. So be sure with Auto Secure. ADVANCED AIR PIPE SYSTEM FROM DAN-AM AIR Today's clean air requirements are more critical than ever. Air tools, blow driers, HVLP spray guns and supplied air respi- rators may require more air volume and better air quality than needed in the past. Not only does clean air affect equipment performance, but it is also critical for paint coatings' performance. Dan-Am Air ® , along with SATA filtration, can solve all of these issues. Dan-Am Air is lightweight, aircraft grade, powder-coated aluminum, which provides clean, dry air up to 232 psi. The composite Nylon 66 fittings have dual seals, which rest on un-scraped pipe, pro- viding a leak-free guarantee. This quick, instant connection eliminates the need to thread, solder or glue, accounting for far less installation times than tradi- tional copper or black pipe. The company also stocks a large array of threaded connectors and adapters, allowing Dan- Am Air to be integrated into existing systems with- out compromising per- formance, making DAA perfect for upgrade or expansion projects. Designed with sim- plicity in mind, DAA allows you to do it yourself. Measure, cut, de-burr, then sim- ply Press-to-Connect, equaling lower installation times and cost. All fittings arrive pre-torqued for immediate assem- bly and pressurization, as well as being interchangeable, allowing for ease of future addition or expansion. BOOM MAT DAMPING MATERIAL NOW AVAILABLE IN 2MM AND 4MM Boom Mat, an automotive leader for inte- rior heat and sound control products, offers a premium peel and stick damping material that greatly reduces unwanted vehicle interior noise. Boom Mat's origi- nal damping material has been used for years to improve cabin acoustics. Now Boom Mat has introduced a new and improved 2mm and thicker 4mm (Boom Mat XL). The 2mm damping material provides a more convenient and effective way to reduce low frequency noise, typical of structure borne vibrations with less mate- rial coverage, reducing weight, material cost and installation time. Road, engine and vibration noise is reduced dramati- cally when applied to floorboards, fire- walls, door skins and overhead interior roof panels. The 4mm, Boom Mat XL, is a pre- mium damping material that is 166 per- cent thicker than the standard 2mm prod- uct. The XL version is an industry-lead- ing 4mm thick, developed to reduce unwanted noise in trucks, classics, street rods, modified street performance vehi- cles and stereo competition vehicles. Boom Mat's XL is an effective product for eliminating unwanted vibration, engine, road and tire noise. When using the thicker 4mm (XL), only 25 to 50 percent coverage is required, which reduces weight, installa- tion time and material cost. Both the 2mm and 4mm damping material are recommended for use on any flat surface, or in areas with contours or bends that could benefit from vibration reduction. Both are constructed of a vis- coelastic polymer layer with an alu- minum panel-stiffening skin and are completely odorless. The peel and stick damping material is flexible, easy to trim and is backed with a strong adhesive that prevents sagging or separation. The 2mm damping material is avail- able in packs of two, four, six, eight, 10, 20 and 30 sheets, which is large enough to completely cover the interior of most vehi- cles including an SUV, van or wagon. The new 4mm thick XL is now available in packages of two, five or 10 sheets: 12-1/2 inches by 24 inches (4mm) - 4.2 square feet - two sheets – Part #050221; 12-1/2 inches by 24 inch- es (4mm) - 10.4 square feet - five sheets – Part #050222; 12-1/2 inches by 24 inches (4mm) - 20.8 square feet - 10 sheets – Part #050223.
