C o n s t r u c t i o n M a r k e t p l a c e 3 3 T h u r s d a y, J a n u a r y 2 2 , 2 0 1 5 HACKER RELEASES FIRM-FILL SCM MATS Hacker Industries Inc. recently released a full line of sound-attenuating underlay- ment mats to accompany their FIRM- FILL ® gypsum concretes. What makes these FIRM-FILL SCM mats stand out from the competition? FIRM-FILL SCM mats are extreme- ly easy to use, with a color-coded system designed to complement the color-coding of their existing FIRM-FILL Gypsum Concretes, and a folded-over, self-adhe- sive selvage edge manufactured into each roll to simplify installation. Says Hacker Industries Inc. quality control manager Kevin Chung, "Installation of FIRM-FILL SCM mat is extremely user-friendly. When installing FIRM-FILL ® SCM mat, the selvage edge makes it easy to ensure perfect, leak- proof seams." FIRM-FILL SCM acoustical control mats are included in more than 100 UL certified floor/ceiling assemblies, assur- ing that no matter what your floor/ceiling structure or floor covering need, you can specify FIRM-FILL SCM mats with con- fidence. Hacker Industries, Inc.'s quality control department tests each assembly to precisely determine its sound reduc- tion capabilities, with testing methods that lead the industry in rigor and preci- sion. An acoustical engineer supervises the construction of a 10-foot by 12-foot model of the floor/ceiling assembly to be tested. Every measurement and detail is created exactly to specification to ensure an optimal scenario for testing. Next, Hacker Industries Inc.'s quali- ty control team installs FIRM-FILL SCM and the appropriate thickness of FIRM- FILL gypsum con- crete topping, again taking careful meas- urements and follow- ing mix and applica- tion instructions. They complete this application with a finished floor covering. The entire assembly is then installed into a two-story sound chamber for test- ing. After the assembly is mounted into place, a specialized machine in the upper room produces vibrational noise by tap- ping on the floor. Microphones in the lower room record and precisely measure the transmitted sound frequencies and intensity. They also test the assembly without the FIRM-FILL SCM mat, using only FIRM-FILL gypsum concrete poured directly on the subfloor. This cre- ates a baseline against which they com- pare the FIRM-FILL SCM test data to establish the sound reduc- tion that has occurred. This reduction forms the basis of the IIC (Impact Insulation Class) rating for the assembly. Hacker Industries Inc. has done hundreds of these acoustical tests on their FIRM-FILL SCM mats to date, and reports consistently very good results, with a strong linear progression of improvement from their thinnest mat, 1/8" thick FIRM-FILL SCM-125 with a 3/4" gypsum concrete topping, to the thickest, 3/4" thick FIRM-FILL SCM- 750 with a 1-1/2" topping layer. Based on these excellent results, the company stands behind its new product as a valu- able addition to its complete line of floor underlayments. Visit Hacker Industries at booth #C8516. DELIVER MORE HOMES FASTER BY SWITCHING WITHOUT WIRE How will you react when your electrical contractor tells you he can cut the time it takes to wire a house by 40 percent? That is the time reduction contractors report when they use GoConex switches. GoConex is the "switch without wires." Truly, the switch has no wires and can be installed or moved anywhere in the home. The on/off command is sent wirelessly from the switch to a load con- troller wired into the circuit. By eliminating the wire down to all the switches and using a switch that can be moved anywhere, electricians are free to decide switch locations with cus- tomers at any time. Commercial contrac- tors no longer need to run wire inside conduit to the switch location because the switch has no wires. You can use GoConex to create a two-way switch (or even a 10-way switch) in basically the same amount of time it takes to do a single switch. Plus, you are no longer installing a box for the switch or running wire to the switch. This is how electricians can rough-in a home 40 percent faster. One GoConex Switch can be paired to an infinite number of GoConex Load Controllers. A Load Controller can be paired with up to 10 switches. Pairing a switch takes about eight seconds from start to finish. Pairing information is saved in the Load Controller. If you need to change which Load Controllers a switch con- trols, simply clear the old pairing from the Load Controller and then pair the switches the way you want. With a wireless range of 300 feet, GoConex can switch circuits on and off everywhere in your home or business and detached garages, gatehouses, exterior lights, barns and storage buildings. Break free from wire, boxes and connectors. Complete your electrical rough-ins 40 percent faster. Move switches, add switches and change what loads a switch controls. That's life when you switch without wires. Experiment with GoConex at booth #C8819. Visit www.goconex.com for more information.
