In multi-family units such as con- dominiums and apartment complexes, a leading cause of tenant relocation is noise. The problem of sound attenua- tion in these types of buildings is rarely addressed properly. By installing Acoustiblok over the studs, ceiling and floor joists, sound can be effectively stopped before it vibrates the structure. Combining QuietFiber ® , the com- pany's award-winning sound absorbing material along with Acoustiblok mate- rial to wall, floor and ceiling assem- blies will further increase the STC. QuietFiber will also reduce reverbera- tion and reflective noise in areas of high noise levels by introducing as much of it into the area as possible. The Acoustiblok (Cont'd. from p. 4) product is rated at the highest noise reduction level of NRC 1.00. It's also fireproof, totally hydrophobic, wash- able, non-deteriorating, mold and mildew-proof. Quiet Fiber is UL rated for floor, wall and ceilings applica- tions, and 100 percent recyclable. Acoustiblok manufactures a num- ber of other sound reduction products widely used in the industry: Acoustifence ® outdoor acoustical fence, All Weather Sound Panels ® , Quiet-Cloud ® industrial sound absorp- tion panels and Acoustiblok Wallcover ® , a post- construction noise solution. The company's products are all made and sourced in the United States. Acoustiblok Inc. ships products to more than 50 countries through a net- work of stocking distributors in the United States, and on five continents across the globe. Recently there has been a revision to the published safety standard for home elevators. The ASME A17.1 Safety Code for Elevators was updated in 2016 to include more stringent requirements regarding the rigidity of accordion gates. Also, the allowable clearance from the inside surface of entrance doors at each floor to the inside of the hoistway wall has been reduced from 3 inches to 3/4 of an inch. This has greatly complicated the use of swinging hall doors and standard interlocks for elevator entrances. Fortunately, some manufacturers now offer automatic sliding elevator door systems with residential elevators. They Garaventa Lift (Cont'd. from p. 4) are very similar to the familiar entrances for commercial elevators. Using these systems will guarantee compliance with the new safety standards, enhancing safe- ty, reliability and usability. Manually operated entrances, such as accordion gates or swinging passage doors, do not close automatically. Should a passenger leave a door or gate partly ajar, the elevator is disabled and will not operate. Automatic sliding doors alleviate this problem. They also allow the passenger to enter and exit the eleva- tor without having to manually pull doors and gates open and closed. Automatic sliding doors not only improve reliability, but also accessibility to the elevator itself. For more information, visit booth #S415. rid of it as well. Of course, heating costs also increase. Taco Comfort Solutions' SmartPlus circulator is used with domestic water systems that include a dedicated hot water return line. The new circulator combines the reliability of Taco's "00" line with cutting edge electronics to achieve ultra-efficient domestic hot water recirculation. Builders and remodelers with a focus on sustainability and "green" will find this technology to be a big asset when making "green" recommendations to homeowners. The technology self-adjusts. When set to "smart" mode, the SmartPlus circu- lator records each time hot water is called for during a seven day period and then duplicates the pattern for the following week. This energy saving process hap- pens continuously, so hot water is ready when it's needed. With SmartPlus, the average household can save up to 12,000 gallons of water in a year. The SmartPlus can also be set to "pulse" mode. It will operate for 150 sec- onds every 10 minutes, maintaining hot water at all fixtures. Whether in "smart" or "pulse" mode, the circulator will automatically enter "vacation" mode if hot water is not used for 36 hours. In this mode, water will be circulated once a week to prevent corrosion and scale buildup. When hot water is again called for, the unit will go back to normal operation. SmartPlus is available in a range of Taco (Cont'd. from p. 1) sizes and system connection options to accommodate residential and light com- mercial domestic recirculation applica- tions. Available in bronze or stainless steel, with an optional integral flow check (IFC ® ). "The SmartPlus circulates water back to the heater so it's always hot and comfortable from the moment it's needed at the tap or shower," says Eric Aune, Owner of Zimmerman, Minnesota-based Aune Plumbing, LLC. "It's a great investment for home- owners, especially in areas where water costs are high, or where water conserva- tion needs are greatest," added Aune. "It also makes great sense for installers like me, and the GCs we work for who want to offer solid, affordable recommenda- tions to homeowners." Comments from homeowners who installed SmartPlus: "Works great. Hot water is always there when I need it." – Bruce, Chepachet, Rhode Island "I like that it doesn't have a timer and I don't need to reset it for 'daylight savings' or power outages." – Paul, Coventry, Rhode Island "As a global innovations leader in the industry, we're aware of the need to con- serve water worldwide," said Mark Chaffee, Vice President, Governmental Affairs and Sustainability. "We feel it's our obligation to develop water-conser- vation technology."
