New for 2017 are four designs that capture exuberant stones with bold movement: 9302 Fantasy Marble – Inspired by Fantasy Brown Marble imported from India, Fantasy Marble features a flowing pattern of pewter, sand, blue- gray and earthy browns. Small particulates make up each fluid band of color, blending and interspersing to create a soft stream of natural, earth- based color. 9303 Azul Aran – Gray and blue mineral deposits lay in a pool of white bedrock, while brown and blue-gray veins spider throughout the stone, giving Azul Aran a leafy or frost-like appearance. A stunning and complex stone with a large amount of variation, Azul Aran is a perfect pat- tern for a busy and active family area. 9304 Blue Flower Granite – Blue Flower Granite, named for its large blue quartz crystals, is a dramatic swirling pattern with a stunning combination of brown, gray-blue, creamy white and charcoal gray. The large quartz crystals give depth to the stone pattern, while veins of brown and gray add clarity and dimension. 9305 Silver Flower Granite – Silver Flower Granite is a dramatic swirling pattern of browns and grays, punctuated with warm charcoal black. An ice white background with large quartz crystals gives depth to the stone, while veins of brown and gray add clarity and dimension. Silver Flower Granite has a balanced color palette of warm and cool grays, making it equally versatile in tra- ditional or contemporary interior spaces. Visit Formica at booth #W981. GENERAL SHALE PARTNERS WITH HABITAT FOR HUMANITY OF TUSCALOOSA TO CONSTRUCT ALL-BRICK HOUSE For Tuscaloosa, Alabama native Tony Humphries, peace of mind has been granted following a unique partnership between Habitat for Humanity of Tuscaloosa and General Shale earlier this year. Humphries, whose former residence suffered substantial damage from the mile-and-a-half-wide EF4 tornado that struck the city and killed 52 residents in April 2011, is the recipient of the Habitat affiliate's first-ever all-brick house, which is comprised of General Shale's revolutionary Endurance RS4™ Structural Brick. Oversized for safer and stronger construction, Endurance RS4 – which stands for Real Strong, Real Safe, Real Sustainable, Real Smart – is designed to bear higher loads, meet seismic require- ments and offer greater resistance to high winds and tornadic events. "We wanted to develop a brick that performs very highly in terms of energy efficiency, sustainability and durability, and Endurance Brick exceeds our expectations," says Charles Smith, President and Chief Executive Officer of General Shale. "When compared to traditional brick products, Endurance has significant advantages. This inno- vative product helps streamline the con- struction process and extends the lifespan of structures. It's ideal for res- idences in regions that are prone to significant weather events and other natural dis- asters, as well as for essen- tial buildings, such as hospi- tals, schools, courthouses, and fire and police stations." Designed as reinforced masonry units, Endurance RS4 Structural Brick eliminates the need for load-bearing wood or steel framing, providing struc- tural efficiency that is also stronger than traditional masonry, which is reassuring for builders and homeowners in locations that are susceptible to tornadoes, such as Tuscaloosa. General Shale's partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Tuscaloosa pro- vided Humphries with a safer, stronger, more sustainable and energy-efficient home that he will be able to enjoy for many years to come. Since its founding in 1987, Habitat for Humanity of Tuscaloosa has con- structed more than 100 homes, 56 of which have been built since the April 2011 tornado. "Habitat for Humanity of Tuscaloosa provides a valu- able service to the residents of the city, and we are grateful to have had this opportunity to be involved with such a worthy cause and help provide safe, affordable housing for Mr. Humphries," says Mark Kinser, Executive Vice President of General Shale. "We are pleased to see this home become a per- manent part of the Tuscaloosa communi- ty." The all-brick house was completed and a dedication ceremony was held in June 2016.
