GOODMAN HIGH EFFICIENCY GAS FURNACES As much as half of the energy used in a home goes to heating and cooling, so making smart decisions about a heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) system can have a big effect on utility bills – and comfort. When you also take into consideration the new U.S. DOE minimum efficiency standard changes that went into effect in 2015, the trends towards higher efficiency heating and cooling products are pushing the HVAC industry, as a whole, to make adjustments in how we look at efficiency. The efficient movement of heat is a basic premise of the HVAC industry. Whether it's the removal of heat in con- junction with cooling products or the cre- ation of heat for warmth, the HVAC world revolves around the thermodynam- ics of heat transfer. As efficiency stan- dards rise, the ability to move heat more efficiently becomes more and more important. Considering the heat exchanger is an essential component of a gas furnace, it makes sense to use a unique design like that used as the primary heat exchanger in all Goodman brand gas furnaces. The primary heat exchanger is constructed from tubular, aluminized steel and formed into a dual-diameter configura- tion. Further, the use of wrinkle-bend technology results in an extremely durable heat exchanger. Goodman's higher efficiency 90 percent + AFUE gas furnace models also include a stainless- steel secondary heat exchanger. For optimal efficiency and eco- nomical performance, a Goodman GMVM96 high efficiency furnace with modulating gas valve and a variable-speed circulating blower is a smart choice. Unlike single-stage gas furnaces that operate 'all on' or 'all off,' a Goodman brand modulat- ing gas furnace typically runs at the lowest possible speed to precisely maintain a constant, steady temperature in the home. A modulating gas furnace optimizes its heating output to maximize indoor comfort and lower energy costs as compared to a non-modulating gas fur- nace. When the Goodman brand GMVM96 furnace is installed with the CTK04 ComfortNet™ Communicating Control, additional features such as advanced programming and advanced dehumidification and humidification control add to efficiency and comfort. Goodman brand heating and air conditioning units are designed, engineered and assembled in the U.S.A. About Goodman A member of the DAIKIN group, Houston-based Goodman Global Group, Inc. is a leading manufacturer of heating, ven- tilation and air conditioning products for residential and light commercial use. Goodman's products are predominantly sold through company-operated and independent distribution networks, with more than 1,000 total distribution points throughout North America. INNOVATIVE NEW FRAMING TOOLS FOR LARGE TIMBERS The T-REX Framing System was preci- sion-engineered to enable highly accu- rate cutting of beams and timbers. The five different tools make post and beam framing a breeze, while preserving clean and modern lines. Connecticut Post & Beam is an entrepreneurial startup focused on inno- vative new ways to post and beam frame. The founders have more than 60 years experience combined in the building industry. They are applying that experi- ence to inventing new tools and connec- tors that create clean and exciting lines without prominent metal bolts and braces. Of the patent-pending tooling Connecticut Post & Beam offers, the T- REX Slotter is the most important. The Slotter makes easy and accurate slots for the connectors to slide into by clamping this custom tool onto your chainsaw. Recommended is the electric Stihl chain saw MSE 250 C-Q with a minimum bar of 18 inches for use with the Slotter to make the 1/4-inch slots. The T-REX Rotary Cutting Table is another custom tool used with the Accutech Miter Mill to render accurate angle and square cutting. Any chainsaw can be used easily with this Rotary Table. Another addition to Connecticut Post & Beam's Framing System is the T- REX Router Guide. This custom adapter plate fits onto an inexpensive Makita Router to chamfer the edges of the slot made by the T-REX Slotter for a secure fit. Nine different sizes of Drill Jigs enable drilling preci- sion holes for the pins. These are made from high-density polyethylene (HDPE) with quality drill bushings to ensure longlasting durability. These tools work in conjunction with 18 different connectors that provide post to beam, post to concrete, three-way and angle brace connections for post and beam framing. Connectors vary in sizes from 3.5 inches by 3.5 inches to 8 inches by 12 inches. For instructional videos on the cus- tom tooling, check out the company's YouTube channel at www.youtube .com/trexpostandbeam. For pictures and stories about customer projects, see the company's Facebook page at w w w . f a c e b o o k . c o m / ctpostandbeam. Connecticut Post & Beam offers a variety of barn and cabin plans online, along with draftsmen who use Dietrich's software to design custom plans using T-REX connec- tors. Through them, customers have larger two-story buildings ranging from 24 feet by 48 feet in Texas to 30 feet by 60 feet in New York and 48 feet by 84 feet in Idaho. If your architects or drafts- men do not have the capability to use Dietrich's software to alter your plans to frame with T-REX connectors, they do. For more information, visit booth #S456 and get a free 10-foot by 16-foot Granby barn plan. To learn more, go to www.ctpostandbeam.com.
