K i t ch e n w a r e N e w s & H o u s e w a r e s R e v i e w S h o w D a i l y 1 0 5 Tu e s d a y, M a r ch 8 , 2 0 1 6 make everyone's life a little easier. KNSD: What would you say makes your company unique? GB: BeraTek is dedicated to simplifying the lives of consumers. We identify opportunities for meaningful, relevant improvements by studying people inter- acting with day-to-day obstacles. Our "simple centric" mentalities during our quest to solve problems uncover the best, easy-to-use product solutions for life's everyday obstacles. KNSD: Do you offer your services to other inventors? GB: Absolutely! In addition to develop- ing and launching our own products, the company helps other entrepreneurs and small companies succeed by offering expertise in design, prototyping, manu- facturing and direct to consumer market- ing/selling as a vertically integrated serv- ice. We have fine-tuned processes to allow us to customize efficient and cost- effective launch plans for new products, resulting in bringing a product to market quickly, efficiently and cost-effectively. KNSD: What distinguishes your product in the marketplace? GB: Our products are made in the U.S.A. Iowa to be specific. When I opened the doors of BeraTek, my vision included producing and launching multiple prod- ucts with a reduced time to market and low manufacturing costs. I've made the B eraTek (C o nt'd. fro m p. 1 ) investment in high-tech manufacturing equipment and an educated team with goal of keeping manufacturing in the U.S.A. KNSD: What BeraTek products are you showcasing? GB: We are showing several of our space-saving products, including the Café Wall Caddy and Power Perch. Both products were design to solve a common problem – how to save space! We also will be showcasing our five-quart Hold & Go Slow Cooker. The Hold & Go Slow Cooker features a spill-free locking lid and single handle so it can be carried with one hand. The handle also doubles as a lid holder. Rachael Ray recently told us, "It's the coolest slow cooker I have ever seen in my life!" KNSD: What advice do you have for other inventors? GB: Spend your hard earned money in the right places; places that will help get your product to market quickly. Do upfront research on companies that claim they can help you. Remember ideas are just that – only ideas. Execution is what makes a product. When developing your product, start with the simplest design first so you can get it to market quickly. When you launch your product, launch online first to reduce costs. Lastly, try to get as much press as you can. Free press makes all the difference in the world in the success of your product. What makes Kanso different? Kanso shares the same razor-sharp 16- degree cutting edge and handcrafted quality as the rest of Shun's fine cutlery, but one look tells you that Kanso is dif- ferent. Kanso has a streamlined design that is reminiscent of heritage knives that have been handed down from cook to cook, and will be passed down for many more years to come. What is Kanso's blade steel? Shun Kanso is made of Japanese AUS10A stainless steel, a top-of-the-line steel. Because of the vanadium in the steel formula, this steel is exceptionally fine-grained and can take a very sharp edge, yet it is hard enough to hold that edge. Its high-carbon content gives it good strength, edge retention, wear resistance and hardness. High chromium helps make it stain resistant. AUS10A is excellent cutlery steel and Shun's expert- ise in heat-treating the steel brings out its ultimate high-performance characteris- tics. What kind of finish is on the blade? Apart from Kanso's simple elegance, one of the most striking things about these knives is the Heritage blade fin- ish. It gives Kanso a patina that many knife users find extremely appealing. It also hides scratches and only improves with age. The Kanso Shun (C o nt'd. fro m p. 1 ) Heritage finish enhances performance, too, enabling Kanso to glide through foods with ease. What kind of wood is the handle made of? Tagayasan wood handles complement Kanso's full-tang blades. In Japan, this unusual dark-grained wood is known as "iron sword wood" for its incredible durability. The wood's hardness requires extra handcrafting during manufacturing, but will provide its owner with a lifetime of service. The Tagayasan handles are angled to enable a comfortable pinch grip while cutting. Who is the Kanso customer? Millennial customers, customers who may be new to Shun and those who value performance and prefer simple, clean lines in design will appreciate Kanso. With its high-performance steel, razor- sharp edge, perfect balance and precision cutting control, Kanso will appeal to good cooks, aspiring cooks and anyone who enjoys simple tools that simply per- form. When is it available and what styles will be offered? Kanso is available now. The series cur- rently includes: 8-inch Chef's Knife, 7- inch Hollow-Ground Santoku, 5.5-inch Hollow-Ground Santoku, 7-inch Asian Utility, 6-inch Utility, 3.5-inch Paring, Combination Honing Steel and 6-pc Block Set. With the added odor-fighting power of neatfreak's patented everfresh ® pro-biotic technolo- gy, this truly is the superhero of totes. The sidekick to the neattote is the high rise sorter. This robust metal A- frame hangs two neattotes vertically to maximize space. The same small foot- print, now with twice the capacity! For multi-purpose functionality, use it in a mudroom or entryway. Hang winter boots to dry on the bottom bar with a neatfreak neatclip, and throw hats, mitts and scarves in the neattote on the top. Another way to go vertical and max- imize your space is to tap into unused surfaces of existing room elements, like a closet or room door. Over-the-door stor- age is not a new concept in home organi- zation, with most doors incorporating some sort of hook. However, converting a simple door into a multi-functional laundry accessory just may be the next neatfreak (C o nt'd. fro m p. 4 ) evolution. Neatfreak's new over-the-door quick rack lets you turn any door into an extension of your laundry room. Unlike traditional drying racks that take up valuable floor space and may be cum- bersome to assemble, this versatile dry- ing rack stays neatly tucked away behind a door, ready to use at any time. Hang damp clothes to dry using hangers or clothes pegs. Three coated wire shelves fold down for to provide a sur- face for smaller garments that need to lay flat to dry. Hang a laundry bag with neatclips from the bottom bar to save additional floor space. It's ideal for any small space such as a cottage, dorm room or change room. "How can we have that delicious garlic without heating that big oven in the heat of summer? This was how the idea started," says Inventor Todd Hannon. "The exterior reflects the look of a bulb of garlic, keeping the outlook as fun as the product itself." To roast garlic, you first wet the terra cotta ring, inserting into the bottom of the roaster. In the removable roasting pan, H anno n G ro up (C o nt'd. fro m p. 1 ) you add your garlic, oil, salt and season- ings. Close the roaster and press start; then, the timer starts at 27 minutes and counts down to zero. Included is a removable handle that snaps onto the pan, letting you remove it safely from the roaster. The new roaster has been increased to 800 watts of power and features an updated control panel design with a digi- tal timer. The timer defaults to 27 min- utes and then can be adjusted to add or subtract time, giving more control in cooking other foods in the Roasted Garlic Express.
