Camber is a wholly owned subsidiary of Hetero Drugs based in Hyderabad, India. Hetero Drugs is a global pharmaceutical, research and development company with an emphasis on API production and man- ufacturing of finished dosage forms. Invagen, an associated company, offers a substantial amount of Camber products that are manufactured in the United States. Collectively, Hetero, Invagen and PHARMACEUTICAL REVERSE LOGISTICS CAN BE DONE COMPLIANTLY AND COST-EFFICIENTLY By Jeff Pepperworth, President, Inmar Healthcare Network. Managing reverse logistics in the phar- maceutical industry can be a nightmare for companies not equipped with the tools, processes and regulatory expertise to navigate what can seem like a mine- field. There are a myriad of challenges, touching every point from physical pro- cessing to financial settlement and dispo- sition management. Too often, in the effort to avoid the risk of heavy fines from regulatory violations, companies choose all-encompassing destruction practices for pharmaceutical product returns. While such practices may result in minimal or no violations, they can also result in missed opportunities to recoup cost through manufacturer credit. Managing the physical processing of outdated, damaged, recalled, withdrawn and discontinued product in the health- care industry is not a sim- ple prospect, and the answer usually doesn't lie in adapting returns processes designed for non-regulated CPG prod- uct in the retail environ- ment. Processing pharma- ceutical product can be costly and time- consuming if not addressed with the appropriate tools and processes. Agility is the key to meeting these challenges, and forward-thinking compa- nies are turning to technology, such as the innovative solutions offered by Inmar, that reduce cost and increase effi- ciency through automated processing, Continued on Page 29 Continued on Page 29 AN INDEPENDENT PUBLICATION NOT AFFILIATED WITH NACDS Lee M.
