B r o a d c a s t e r s S h o w D a i l y 4 1 W e d n e s d a y, A p r i l 1 5 , 2 0 1 5 Avateq started six years ago by a group of engineers with a strong experience in hardware and software development for the broadcast industry and with a desire to solve complex engineering tasks. This desire led to the development of a very effective echo cancellation engine and a high performance linear and non-linear digital adaptive predistorter. Those engines have been successfully tested and integrated into third-party equipment. Going into manufacturing was our response to the clients' needs. From the very beginning we participated in indus- try events such as NAB talking to broad- cast engineers, discussing their problems. One of the issues that would come up over and over was lack of affordable but accurate embedded signal analyzers. Available solutions were either cheap probes that were not informative enough or very detailed and very expensive real- time professional analyzers. BSD: So, you decided to fulfill that niche? AB: Exactly. Because of our develop- ment, analytical algorithms were parts of our IP cores. All we needed was to pack- Avateq (Cont'd. from p. 1) age them in a way that the data could be easily read and understood. We knew that the accuracy of the data would not be an issue – we tested our algorithms against some of the top-of-the-line signal analyz- ers. But, it was the user interface and accessibility that would make it a practi- cal monitoring and analytical tool. BSD: Is this how AVQ1020 – RF Layer Monitoring Receiver came to live? AB: What you see today at our stand is a completely re-thought, re-designed, re- packaged device in comparison with the first version. Today, AVQ1020 is a mature system with a greatly improved Web interface that features a lot of famil- iar tools from high-end desktop signal analyzers, better security and reporting, more storage for data archiving, support for all major digital terrestrial and satel- lite broadcasting signals. But, AVQ1020 still remains a cost-effective 24/7 remote monitoring embedded platform designed to work at a transmitter site guarding the quality of the signal for the best viewing experience. New NAB Show Offerings At the 2015 NAB Show, Cobalt Digital is highlighting 27 advancements in pro- cessing and convergence products across three of its primary product platforms – the openGear -2-RU platform, the BBG- 1000 line of 1/3rd-RU rack-mountable desktop stand-alone systems and the original Blue Box Group™ series of miniature throwdown converters. In vari- ous combinations, these products formu- late many solutions required by broad- casters and content producers every day. The latest enhancements are in keeping with Cobalt Digital's reputation for cus- tomer-driven engineering design and maximum manufacturing quality. Cobalt Digital's newest openGear product introductions reflect the compa- ny's ongoing efforts to provide solutions that are cost-effective and space-and power-efficient. New terminal gear mod- ules include the 9922-2FS dual-channel 3G/HD/SD-SDI framesync with audio and video processing and a high-density footprint; the 9960-TG2-REF1 dual-chan- nel 3G/HD/SD-SDI test signal generator; the 9980-CSC 3G/HD/SD-SDI color space converter supporting real-time RGB color correction for 1080p60 signals; and the 9940-4x1-CS clean and quiet bypass router for glitchless audio and video switching. Each of these new products is available in the popular Blue Box Group BBG-1000 Series, a line of desktop stand- alone enclosures that have front-panel controls and can be rack-mounted to pro- vide up to three systems in 1 RU. New Ancillary Data Solution Offers Ease of Use Cobalt Digital is also bringing easy-to- Cobalt Digital (Cont'd. from p. 1) use ancillary data tools to market with the 9950-EMDE-ANC data embedder/de- embedder and 9978-ANC-MON ancil- lary data monitor for end-to-end data transmission workflows. Cobalt Digital also will introduce a new, cost effective line of audio 3G/HD/SD-SDI embedder/de-embedders for the openGear platform. The 9933 series of cards includes an 8 channel ana- log embedder, 8 channel analog de- embedder, a balanced 8 pair, 16 channel AES embedder/de-embedder and an unbalanced AES 16 pair, 32 channel embedder/de-embedder. The 9433 series of embedders/de- embedders for openGear supports the same functionality as the 9933 series, but adds fiber optic I/O options. All of the new audio embedder/de- embedder cards support audio shuffling, gain adjustments and downmixing, plus advanced audio features such as AES sample rate converters, allowing error- free audio embedding from external asynchronous sources. Looking for large venue digital sig- nage solutions? Make sure to check out Cobalt's BBG Series. The new BBG-F-TO- H throwdown Fiber Optic to Optical Converter receives SPMTE 297 Optical SDI signals and converts them to electrical SDI and HDMI or DVI-D, with a fiber optic regenerating output. The active looping output of this unit and its ability to run on standard USB power sources makes it the perfect solution for large venue digital signage applications. For NAB 2015, Suitelife has announced the new remote site manage- ment offering, named the HD R Series hardware platform, designed specifically for individual radio and tele- vision stations. The HD R Series features modular back-planes, allowing easy sys- tem expansion plus integration with existing legacy hardware without the need to rewire sites. The SLS HD R platform is delivered with Axess software, embedded on a solid state processor, eliminating the need for a standalone PC. Features include: Web-enabled programmable functionality designed to integrate stu- dios, facilities and remote transmitter sites. At NAB 2015, the Suitelife team will also be demonstrating the diversified functionality of Axess: integrated envi- ronmental sensor packages and on-air signal monitoring with full SNMP report- ing, northbound and southbound, with Axess (Cont'd. from p. 4) color coded workflows displayed on Operator Visual Interface (OVI) screens. Axess utilizes exception-based mon- itoring pre-empting failure and technical faults minimizing remote site visits, engi- neering analysis and time demanding problem solving. Multi-site data manage- ment of business critical operations on a regional or national basis allow for TX, EAS, Program and Commercial play out logs to be integrated and consolidated into customized compliance reports. Axess is designed to efficiently man- age and control hundreds of sites across thousands of miles, pre-empting failure and monitoring faults with auto-correc- tion capabilities meeting operator speci- fied criteria and operational compliance. The operating cost savings from Axess automation and integration lead directly to improved operating margins and network performance positively impacting the competitive end user cus- tomer experience and top line revenue.
