BLONDER TONGUE ENHANCES VIDEO QUALITY FOR FAST-MOTION SPORTS WITH NEW HDE-4S-PRO ENCODER When it comes to fast-paced live sport- ing events, such as tennis or soccer, being able to deliver crystal-clear video images is essential for broadcasters. With Ultra HD services gradually rolling out, viewers are increasingly demanding high-quality video content on every screen. Keeping this in mind, Blonder Tongue is demonstrating its new HDE-4S-PRO MPEG-2 HD encoder at the 2015 NAB Show, which features advanced motion estimation technology that brings efficiency, quali- ty and affordability to professional sports encoding applications. Developing on the company's HDE- 4S-QAM encoder, the new HDE-4S- PRO encoder from Blonder Tongue enables broadcasters to offer high-quality video content with extremely low laten- cy, making it ideal for any application that requires encoding and distributing live programming on-site, such as a sporting event within a stadium. Utilizing the MPEG-2 encoder, operators can accept up to four HD-SDI programs, plus one spare, and simultaneously output in QAM, IP streams (1000Base-T Ethernet), and ASI formats. Since opera- tors can assign up to four programs to each QAM output channel, and turn on/off each of the four adjacent QAM output channels indi- vidually, the HDE- 4S-PRO dramatically improves transport efficiency. In addition to enhanced motion esti- mation for HD-SDI inputs, the HDE-4S- PRO includes HD-SDI spare and moni- toring points. This enables broadcasters to switch to a backup feed in emergency situations, which is essential in real-time environments. The HDE-4S-PRO encoder supports Dolby ® Digital and closed captioning (EIA-608 and EIA-708) to ensure superi- or audio quality. It is also equipped with an emergency alert system interface to support the delivery of emergency mes- sages. A front-panel RF test point allows broadcasters to monitor and test the QAM output without service interrup- tion. Comprehensive remote monitoring and control is accomplished via a user- friendly Web browser. H D E - 4 S - PRO encoders have already been deployed by major sports associa- tions to enable the delivery of crisper images using the exact same bandwidth. By allowing the support of multiple pro- grams per QAM channel, the HDE-4S- PRO improves transport efficiency while reducing power and rack space in head- ends, lowering capital and operational expenses. All attendees who stop by the Blonder Tongue booth at the NAB Show to see a demonstration will be entered into a drawing for a free HDE-4S-PRO encoder.
