Axess efficiently synchronizes all different types of legacy and new net- work technologies. An overarching "manager-of-man- agers" platform, Axess interfaces across all different types of technologies, manu- facturers, applications and devices including end-of-life and dated legacy equipment. If a signal is made available, Axess automatically interrogates the source with all devices, allowing them to communicate north and southbound while interacting and reporting as deter- mined by engineering and IT. Features of advanced operational automation and control across the net- work include: drill-down capabilities probing into individual systems at the device level; color coded, graphically displayed network, remote site and indi- vidual device health is also alarmed to operator level scripted parameters and viewable from a single screen or smart device; relevant data polling, aggregation, alarm storm prioritization and restoration are effi- ciently managed; and Axess also seamlessly integrates diverse operations including smart/green build- ing management ("BMS"), RF/transmis- sion/microwave, environmental sensors, green energy and backup power manage- ment. SuiteLife Systems specializes in partnering with clients, ideally starting at the design phase of their network LINKING PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE WITH THUNDERBOLT TECHNOLOGY As is often the case with new technolo- gy, backwards compatibility cannot always be guaranteed. In case of the new Mac Pro (2013) for example, the FireWire interface has been dropped and there is no option to install addi- tional PCIe cards to expand the func- tionality of your Mac. Fortunately, the new Mac computers now all come with a Thunderbolt™ inter- face. In combination with AKiTiO's Thunderbolt products like the AKiTiO Thunder2 Dock and the AKiTiO Thunder2 PCIe Box, suddenly it's possi- ble to go back into the past with inter- faces such as eSATA and FireWire 800 or further expand the possibilities with external PCIe cards. The Thunder2 Dock is a Thunderbolt 2 docking station that connects to the computer via Thunderbolt. It provides two eSATA 6 Gb/s ports, one 7 watt bus- powered FireWire 800 port, two bus- powered USB 3.0 ports with UASP sup- port and one extra Thunderbolt port for additional Thunderbolt devices in a daisy-chain. You can not only connect external storage drives to it but also plug in a 4K monitor and recharge your mobile devices like the iPhone or the iPad. Thunderbolt 2 technology incorporates DisplayPort 1.2 support, which allows for video streaming to a single 4K video moni- tor. If you are a video editor, you can now use a single port to connect your external Thunderbolt devices and a 4K display. The Thunder2 PCIe Box is a Thunderbolt 2 PCIe expansion box that provides an external PCIe slot. The PCIe (x16) slot accepts half-length, Continued on Page 41 Continued on Page 41 AN INDEPENDENT PUBLICATION NOT AFFILIATED WITH NAB Lee M.
