An interview with Jim Benson, President, Hale Manufacturing. HDSD: Tell our readers about your com- pany. What's your main line of business? JB: Hale Manufacturing is 107 years old, with our roots in bookcases and wood cabinetry. Today, we're involved with storage solutions and library furniture. Hale produces solid wood shelving, in tradi- tional to contemporary designs. We are able to match existing finishes for customers and also provide custom styles. Our products are made from northeastern hard- woods and are manufactured at our facility in upstate New York. In addition to manufacturing product, Hale will also help the customer design the look of the finished area. We can provide floor layouts, drawings and renderings. Guy Boniface, founder of 1 ReSource Inc., started the company in September 2008, with a strong need for a company with distribution in North America for qual- ity office seating components. The principle behind 1 ReSource is to provide customers with one resource for their office seating components. There is now no need to deal with multiple vendors; that is a thing of the past. 1 ReSource has a 25,000 square foot warehouse in Toronto, holding hundreds of skids of multiple kinds of office seating components at any given time, ready to supply customers on demand. Parts range from gas lifts, chair mechanisms, arms, seats, casters, chair bases, etc. 1 ReSource also has a warehouse in California with a mix of the same components, ready An interview with Adam Jackson Pollock, President and Founder, Fire Farm Lighting. HDSD: There aren't a lot of lighting companies exhibiting at NeoCon. Fire Farm Lighting started exhibiting at NeoCon last year. Why? AP: For that reason; we have been fabricating lighting for the residential and hospitality markets for 23 years and saw a shift in the contract commercial and health- care architectural markets that could benefit from our experience and services. HDSD: What kind of shift do you mean? AP: It is clear that the traditional work environment is changing. Everyone acknowl- edges that most upholstered furni- ture is highly flammable. Residential furniture fires are responsible for nearly 600 deaths each year. Governmental agencies including the CPSC, NIST and NFPA are actively studying the need for addi- tional regulations to make upholstered furniture safer. There has also been substantial resistance to the increased flammability regulations by environmental groups. Since the mid-1970s, halogenated flame retar- dants have been incorporated in the polyurethane foam used to make residential furniture comply with CAL TB 117. Changes were made in California to modify CAL TB 117.
