RDN: Tell our readers about your company's NRA history. JK: 2014 is Zing Zang's 18th year in a row to exhibit at the National Restaurant Association Restaurant, Hotel-Motel Show. At the 1997 NRA show, my father, company founder Richard Krohn, introduced his newly created Zing Zang Bloody Mary Mix, and as they say, the rest is history. RDN: So Richard was a beverage industry executive? JK: No. Actually, this company was started after his other successful careers in finance and real estate, at an age when most people would be thinking about retirement. SZ: Halal is an Arabic word which means 'lawful or permitted in Islam.' In the context of consumer products, Halal means all products must be prepared according to the ways that have been allowed in Islam. This covers preparation of food products, meat products, cosmetics, personal care products, pharmaceuticals, food ingredients and food contact materials. In addition, Islam does not permit consumption of swine/pork and its by-products, alcoholic beverages, ani- mals improperly slaughtered or dead before slaughtering, carnivorous animals, birds of prey and certain other animals, and finally, foods contaminated with any of the above products.
