Hardware & Housewares Review Tuesday, May 8, 2018 4 Better Temp Control Means Better Barbecue Digital temperature control for smokers and grills is nothing new; PID controllers have been around for well over a decade. However, within the past few years, the technology has been updated and improved, allowing for more precision and ease of use. Established in 2013, Flame Boss entered the temperature con- troller market with innovation and prod- uct support in mind. "We saw an oppor- tunity to improve upon the existing PID technology, to allow for more precision and enable ease of use. We also noticed that the retail market was underserved, and we wanted to provide accessibility for our customers, in retail but also in terms of customer service," states Roger Collins, co-Founder of Flame Boss. A self-proclaimed barbecue enthusiast with a background in software engineering, Collins is the inventor of the advanced technology that has propelled the Flame Boss product platform. Collins possesses a patent on this particular type of PID controller, an "Adaptive Feed Forward Method for Temperature Control." In layman's terms, this means that Collins' algorithm analyzes data constantly, and then uses that data to compute the fan speed that would pro- duce the most steady and pre- cise pit temper- ature. For those who may not be familiar, a PID controller is a process control method, widely used in process control operations, such as cruise control for a car. In the context of being utilized for smokers and grills, it functions as a sophisticated thermostat. The con- troller unit itself is "the brains" of the device – with ports that connect a pit Selling Your Customer on the Need for Home Safes By Allen Forkner, Senior Public Relations Counsel Talking about negatives such as theft or fires can be a hard conversation with con- sumers. But the need for people to con- sider safeguarding their belongings has never been more important. So, how do you talk to your customers about the need for a home safe or secure storage solu- tion? To answer that question, Jesse Bugarin of Alpha Guardian talks about selling your customers on home safes. For starters, Bugarin recommends avoiding fear as a sales tactic. While it may work with some, it alienates a larger percentage. "In general, if a customer is being driven to purchase by fear, they've already made the decision to buy," Bugarin said. "From there, the sales staff just needs to direct him or her to an appropriate product." "For other consumers, it's best to sell something bigger than the safe: peace of mind. With a safe or security cabinet," Bugarin said, "customers can find com- fort in knowing their valuables are secured and o r g a n i z e d , where they can be easily found if need be, but also protected from theft, loss or damage." "All too often, people think of safes as ways of securing financially valuable items, such as money, jewelry or bonds," Bugarin said. "But in truth, safes can pro- tect anything that your customer may see as valued. For example, I value my iden- tity so I keep my passport and other financial documents in there. But, I also value my family, so my grandmom's Continued on Page 25 Continued on Page 25 AN INDEPENDENT PUBLICATION NOT AFFILIATED WITH NHS Kimberly Oser Publisher Jules Denton-Card Senior Associate Publisher Lorrie Baumann Editorial Director JoEllen Lowry • Jeanie Catron • Karrie Welborn Associate Editors Yasmine Brown Art Director Jonathan Schieffer Graphic Designer Caitlyn McGrath • Susan Stein Customer Service Managers Jay Watson • Hannah Stefanovich • Margaret Oser Show Logistics & Distribution Marcos Morhaim Senior Account Manager Adrian Chacon • Beth Painter Michael Santamarina • Kim Whiteman Account Managers Tara Neal Director of Operations Enrico Cecchi European Sales Hardware & Housewares Review is published by Oser Communications Group ©2018 All rights reserved.
