Wireless World Thursday, September 14, 2017 6 Scaling IoT: Experienced Providers Needed By Christina Richards, Vice President of Global Marketing Research has predicted that devices con- nected to the Internet of Things (IoT) will expand more than 20-fold over the next five years. That literally translates to bil- lions of connected endpoints, with more data transmitted per endpoint, and more overall data collected than one can imag- ine. All this will be driven by the need for greater business insights so as to improve operational efficiencies, creating new business models, along with new streams of revenue. As comfort levels with IoT continue to grow, unconnected products will move into the connected services realm, and IoT projects will grow from small local- ized endeavors to global projects span- ning multiple borders, multiple carriers, differing devices, with varying cost barri- ers. Today, the markets are extremely fragmented and connectivity options abound, with new technologies fighting for market share (think cellular, Wi-Fi, low power wide area networks, etc.). To add to the confusion, to scale effectively, companies must not only think of today's needs, but of long-term business viability. For global growth, that means having the flexibility to use multi- ple technologies, adapting to whatever local standards exist in whatever country the connected device resides. The bottom line for customer scaling needs will come down to who can provide the best solu- tions for connectivity, coverage and cost. Provider Qualifications for Scaling In a business environment, IoT scaling is a process with very real chal- lenges. To overcome scaling connectivi- ty roadblocks, knowledge and experi- ence become mandatory requirements when selecting a service provider. So, when it comes to scaling IoT projects, companies need to look for certain attributes in a provider, such as: full-stack with sup- port: Companies needs providers that can deploy solutions that integrate seam- lessly with each other. Additionally, if things don't go as planned, the impact of substandard support can be devastating, resulting in increased downtime, reduced operational efficiency and lost profitability; technology flexibility: today, organizations cannot wait to see which technology or standard gains the greatest acceptance. Companies need a flexible provider that can adapt and deploy any, or a blend of, technologies that best suit business-specific needs; and experience is vital: very few providers have the experience or the depth to deliver global scaling solutions. Companies need to seek out technology partners with a history of successful IoT scaling deployments. The Aeris IoT Services Platform Aeris' multi-technology, multi-network connec- tivity solutions deliver maximum value by combining the benefits of 2G/3G/4G cellular connectivity with the benefits of non-cellular technologies, such as low power wide area networks (LPWA), Wi-Fi and more. The Aeris net- work was designed to ensure consistent quality of coverage, resulting in multiple carrier options for connectivity. With more than 500 service provider partners across 190 countries, the Aeris IoT Connectivity management platform sim- plifies the complexity of these deploy- ments, regardless of technology or under- lying network. TSSI Maximizes Recovery on Goods Perceived as Undesirable Technology Solutions & Services, Inc., (TSSI) remanufactures products that have already been produced. The com- pany offers expanded capacity and capabilities for reverse logistics. TSSI is focused on enhancing service capa- bilities for mobile products. This includes increasing production capacity as well as enhancing cosmetic capabili- ties to bring products closer to a "like- new" condition. Other remanufacturers focus on making a unit functional again, but TSSI brings a refurbished product back to or close to an A-Grade condi- tion. This allows clients to increase resale by more than 30 percent, a siz- able increase in recovery for their clients. Headquartered in San Bernardino, California and founded in 1999, TSSI is an R2-certified, full-service, reverse- logistics company, specializing in remanufacturing solutions for mobile, IT and consumer electronics industries. It provides a host of customized servic- es specifically designed to manage refurbished products. These services include screening, testing, repair, data collection and reporting while utilizing environmentally friendly disposal prac- tices. TSSI partners with manufacturers, retailers and distributors to facilitate their ability to effectively manage their returned goods. From a returned asset management perspective, the mobile industry appears to be where the PC industry was over 20 years ago. TSSI was successful in the evolution of asset man- agement in their PC group and now manages returned assets for brands such as HP and Lenovo. The company has five locations, nearly half a million square feet, and over 1,200 employees. It provides services on a contract as well as one-time event basis. It is adept at managing run-rate returns, product recall or rework projects. The company is relatively new to the mobile market and offers intelligently structured asset management programs to its customers. The company's goal is to become an extension of its clients' asset recovery process by providing cost effective, rev- enue-maximizing solutions. TSSI's services are designed to maximize recovery on goods that many people perceive as undesirable, yet are still potentially tangible assets on a company ledger. Its processes expertly manage returned goods from the beginning of the returns process through to final dispo- sition. Some clients only require broken glass LCD/LCM service while oth- ers may want whole phone refurbishment, kitting and fulfillment services. Services can be separated out or bundled together on an as-needed basis to suit the unique requirements of each individual client. Product returns continue to have an increasing impact on the bottom line; therefore, TSSI strives to proactively provide clients with revenue maximizing solutions to their unique asset recovery needs. Patented High Performance Smartphone Solar Charging Case iPowerUp, a smartphone power case design and manufacturing company, announces the release of the "Fusion," the first high performance solar inte- grated multi-charging iPhone 6/6S/7 power case that delivers. The Fusion is a cleverly designed semi-rugged form fitted smartphone power case design that provides meaningful solar power, 2500 mA internal backup battery and an integrated digital milliamp meter dis- playing "real time" performance that fits in your pocket. The smartphone today is the "all-in device" and running out of power is com- monplace. You now can have an addi- tional green backup power source to maintain your daily lifestyle and be pre- pared for any communication emergen- cies. The security and comfort of know- ing you have a highly convenient per- formance based alternative power resource on your phone to communicate is priceless. The Fusion Performance The Fusion has two 22.4 percent efficient solar modules, and provides faster per- formance than anything before it in this unique form factor. One hour solar charg- ing provides up to 500 mAs of power, equaling four hours of talk time or 1.8 hours of online time. In 3.6-3.8 hours, it can refill your iPhone 6/6S or 7s internal battery, or in 5.5-6 hours, you can refill the internal (2500 mAh) battery. It pro- vides the highest solar performance in the smallest design ever and is extremely useful when plugging in is not an option. It provides significant talk time in as lit- tle as 30 minutes from solar. For more information, visit www.ipowerup.com.
