"At Akitio, our mission is help Intel make Thunderbolt mainstream by creat- ing the types of devices that owners of the new 2016 Apple MacBook Pro and new Thunderbolt 3 PCs need and want. Our goal is to pro- vide high quality products that are also affordable, but most importantly, we want to create products that will make the lives of our customers easier. We were proud to deliver the industry's first Thunderbolt 3 external storage devices and will continue to develop new and exciting products to meet the gaming, post production and professional needs of our customers," said Richard Wright, Vice President of Sales and Marketing UNITY INTERCOM PROVIDES SOLUTIONS FOR A&E'S LIVEPD Unity Intercom is using NAB 2017 to demonstrate the new features of Unity Intercom 2. Quickly adopted by many broadcasters and television stations across the country, Unity Intercom has become known as an easy solution to many intercom related issues. One show where Unity Intercom is being used to solve some unique prob- lems is A&E's new program LivePD. The show makes extensive use of Unity Intercom to allow television crews to stay in constant communication with the New York-based control room during produc- tion of the live show. Each of these six- man crews are scattered across at least six different cities in the country and use 4G LTE connections to transmit live video and audio back to New York. Each person on the local crew has a headset plugged into either an iOS or Android cell phone running the Unity app while the Unity server sits in New York, tied into the studio's large RTS Adam frame. This allows the director and studio per- sonnel to communicate through their RTS desktop key panels with the remote camera ops and producers seamlessly. Jess Heimlich, Owner of Digital C o m m u n i c a t i o n Systems (DCS), was contacted by the production compa- ny Big Fish Productions to design the communication system for the show. He knew that after his previous experience using Unity Intercom for the Super Bowl, several X-Games and the Rio Olympics, Unity was the only way to do the show. The alternative would have been to bring in 48 telephone interfaces, but the rental cost, low quality and installation of those 48 additional phone lines into the studio were prohibitive and prone to discon- necting at the worst times.
