ADN: Why are steel lines rusting and corroding faster when they are protecting the steel with better plating or coatings like PVF (poly vinyl floride green poly- mer coating), gal fan with epoxy paint (light grey coating) and Nygal (thick nylon black coating), which requires the tube nuts used on the ends of the lines to be oversized on the inside diameter? DG: Most roads in northern climates use rock salt to melt ice and snow from roads in the winter and have for many years. Those same roads are now being sprayed down with liquid sodium and magnesium chloride, which is applied to roads before the storm arrives. These concentrated products coat the underside of vehicles and get into places that are difficult to clean, and corrosion accelerates, especially as the temperature climbs above freezing. ADN: Do any original equipment manu- facturers use copper nickel tubing lines as original equipment? DG: Volvo has used copper nickel tubing since 1976 as original equipment after determining at that time that it was the only tubing that would not eventually fail in their climate. The Society of Automotive Engineers in 1965 said that copper nickel tubing is outstandingly superior to conventional steel brake lines. FMSI Automotive (Cont'd. from p. 1) Many other world class vehicle manufac- turers like Rolls Royce, Lotus, Aston Martin, Porsche and Audi use copper nickel fluid carrying lines. Copper nickel is also used by the military, fire fighting and ocean-going vessels for their hydraulic lines. ADN: Does copper nickel tubing meet the same standards as steel tubing lines, especially brake lines? DG: Copper nickel tubing meets the fol- lowing world standards: SAEJ1650, and ASTM B466, which specifies dimen- sions, tensile and yield strength. Formability and internal cleanliness con- form to specifications SAEJ527, ASTM254 and SMMT C5B (Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders). Also, the alloy meets the requirements for pressure containment, fabrication and corrosion resistance for ISO4038 (International Standards Organization) and SAE J1047. Technicians everywhere are seeing and experiencing the benefits of copper nickel tubing. If your parts store or repair facility is not using this product, call FMSI Automotive Hardware for a dealer near you. I know you stand behind your work, but would you stand in front of it? "The Air Force Master Blaster REV- OLUTION and the Vac 'N, Blo Commercial Series are the only tools we use to detail cars at F40 Motorsports," said Carini. "Both are incredibly power- ful and get the job done right, every time!" The Air Force Master Blaster REV- OLUTION – deliberately made better in the USA – features two twin-fan, 4.0 peak horsepower motors capable of delivering up to 58,000-feet-per-minute of warm, dry filtered air to safely blast water off expensive finishes and out of hard-to-reach places where towels and chamois can't properly dry – such as side-view mirrors, door jams, body seams, grills, lights and more. Thanks to its touchless advantage, the Air Force Master Blaster REVOLUTION dries cars in 15 minutes (or less) and eliminates the risk of streaks, scratches and swirls. It even keeps your wax finish. Additionally, the Air Force Master Blaster REVOLUTION has a 30-foot hose, front-end swivel wheels and a space-saving wall-mount bracket and hose hanger. The 30-foot hose enables users to leave the unit wall mounted and experience the same supreme perform- ance with the ability to effortlessly move MetroVac (Cont'd. from p. 1) around vehicles. Also deliberately made better in the USA, the Vac 'N, Blo Commercial Series provides exceptional power and versatil- ity in an all-steel, American-made machine. As a vacuum, the incredible suction power will clean vehicle interiors in less time. As a blower, it clears water from inaccessible areas of a vehicle and blasts dust from AC vents and shift boots. The Vac 'N, Blo Commercial Series features an all-steel body with a 4.0 peak horsepower, twin-fan, industrial quality motor, producing an almost unbelievable 95 inches of water lift. Furthermore, it has 30 feet of car wash quality crush- proof hose, a claw type upholstery tool and crevice tool, along with every con- ceivable specialized detailing vacuum cleaner attachment and provides profes- sional results in minutes. Plus, it's also quiet! At MetroVac, "Deliberately made better in the USA" is more than a compa- ny slogan; it's a mantra that the company lives by. For more than seven decades, MetroVac has been hand crafting vacuum cleaners, blowers, dryers and pumps uti- lizing only the highest quality compo- nents available. The result? Uncompromised quality, durability and performance that consistently exceeds customer expectations. ODOR ELIMINATOR GOES GLOBAL THANKS TO SEMA SHOW Biocide Systems has been evangelizing the effectiveness of chlorine dioxide for remov- ing odor from vehicles for the last six years. Not just any odors, but severe odors like cigarette odors, pet odors, gasoline odors, even odors from rotten milk or shrimp that may have fallen out of a grocery bag. The hard work is starting to pay off. Biocide Systems announced that it has entered and finalized agreements with an Australian distributor and a South African distributor as master distributors for those countries. Each distributor is fully licensed to represent the Biocide Systems brand in their territories. Biocide System's new dis- tributors will be carrying the entire line of Bio-Shocker ClO2 Odor Eliminators. Biocide Systems is also in negotiations with a large Japanese distributor through its Hawaiian partners at Biocide Systems Hawaii and is showcasing at SEMA Show 2016 with plans to get a few European, Central and South American distributors. AFTERMARKET FASHION: ENGINE DRESS-UP PARTS "Just pop some chrome valve covers on there, and be done with it" is like telling your wife that she only needs one dress. No longer are engine dress-up parts one- and-done: instead, they constitute a suite of parts that change with the times, pro- viding affordable personalization, and just like fashions, styles come and they go. In short, they represent a never-end- ing sales opportunity. Chrome was king for decades, but the meteoric rise of black has taken engine bays by storm over the last 20 years. It all started with Chevrolet Performance's Licensed Black Crinkle Engine Dress-up Kit, made by Proform for small block engines. This kit allowed customers to quickly convert the theme of their engine to powder-coated black, and it created a demand for other black parts to complete the overall engine-compart- ment look, which led to black alternators, intake manifolds, carburetors, wire looms, water necks, bolts and so on. In addition to engine dress-up kits, Proform also released many other valve covers in black crinkle so customers could adopt an even more personalized à la carte approach. This enabled enthusi- asts to create their own custom looks, unlike anybody else's, fulfilling their wish for their vehicles to be unique. In the late 2000s, this coordinated custom-look trend led to the demand for even more finishes for dress-up parts. To answer the call, Proform, in both the Ford Performance and Chevrolet Performance licensed lines, released a whole new family of valve covers with its "Slant- Edge" profile. This new die-cast aluminum design gave enthusi- asts a powerful impetus to replace previ- ous generations of tired-looking engine dress-up parts, upgrading to an optimized design with increased internal clearance, and many more finish choices – in the Chevrolet lineup for the Gen 1 small block there are 16 different styles from which to choose, including Chrome, Black Crinkle and Polished, plus White, Yellow, Red, Blue and Green that are matched to the most popular paint finish- es from the late '60s and early '70s. Proform obtained patents for its Slant-Edge designs, assuring that Ford and Chevrolet have the best looking valve covers, with the best looking emblems – resulting in crate engines for which the appearance is unrivaled in the aftermarket. Looking beyond valve covers, Proform has released matching air clean- ers in the Slant-Edge line, enhanced by an innovative way to install the lid: instead of using a conventional center nut, there's a threaded boss on the under- side of the lid that allows the user to spin it down and into position, thus creating an uncluttered top surface for larger and bolder emblems.
