O s e r C o m m u n i c a t i o n s G r o u p L a s V e g a s T u e s d a y , A p r i l 1 9 , 2 0 1 6 AN INDEPENDENT PUBLICATION NOT AFFILIATED WITH NAB Since IW introduced its High Performance 75Ω cables last year it has been applying this technol- ogy to improved performance for SDI applica- tions. Precision 75ΩN and BNC assemblies are being used in test applications up to 12GHz; the IW High performance 50Ω assemblies are ideal for SatCom applications in downlinks. IW has introduced the 170 cable series with optimized attenuation to 38GHz for Ka-band applications, and this complements the180 series performing to 34GHz and 150 series operating to 44GHz. IW is also pleased to announce its new 1571 cable series offering industry leading attenuation performance, 64dB/100ft at 40GHz. These cables are widely used in both military and commercial satellite communications applications. IW 50Ω cables are used in custom configurations for high-performance audio applications. Multi-coax composites using stranded center conductor cables are employed due to extremely low attenuation achieved by its low density PTFE propri- etary lamination process and silver plated copper conductor and double shield design. IW Microwave Products is a division of Insulated Wire, Inc. that offers a wide range of microwave cable assemblies that operate from the low MHz to 70GHz in fre- quency. These cables, coupled with a broad array of connectors, allow IW to create cus- tom assemblies for both military and commercial applications. Founded in 1970, Insulated Wire developed a unique PTFE lamination process and applied it to the manufacturing of wire and cable. This process allowed Insulated Wire to manufacture products of unprecedented reliability along with smaller diameters. An interview with Danny Gold, Chief Technology Officer of Levels Beyond, the company behind Reach Engine. BSD: Tell us a little about your company. DG: Reach Engine is an open platform that provides stream- lined media management, distribution and monetization capabilities for a range of customers who work with video. We have been best known for our work with finished, pre- produced content, but last month a TV network used our platform during a live annual awards show with a global audience to share video clips within seconds of airing. BSD: How did you arrive at the live clipping solution? DG: The challenge as presented to us by one major client was how to get Reach Engine in the middle of the live experience. This client has a number of daily live shows and a number of major events that happen several times a year that are broadcast live through television and Internet-based experiences. They wanted Reach Engine to man- age that live content the same way we manage their pre-recorded content, and why not? Live content has quickly become some of the most valuable. BSD: After taking out your whiteboard and drilling down, what did you discover? Viking Satcom is a leading manufacturer and distributor of commercial satellite antenna products. It offers a "one stop shop" approach to system integrators and resellers through an extensive product con- sisting of high quality satellite antennas, RF peripheral equipment and wireless commu- nication products. It has years of experience in technical and commercial knowledge as well as hands- on experience with large projects requiring program management. Programs include cable TV 3.7/3.8/4.5m antenna roll outs, VSAT and DTH networks and broadcast station builds. Viking Satcom will often design and produce products that are missing or hard to find in the satellite communications marketplace. One example of this proactive practice is its extensive line of motorized feed systems for receive only as well as transmit- receive (Tx/Rx) antennas. Antenna manufacturers produce and supply fixed feed sys- tems; however, in most cases the motorized feed systems are not available. Viking Satcom has the following motorized feed systems: Ka Band (17 – 22 GHz) Dual Port Receive Only Axi-Symmetric, FEED-2KA-MOTO; Ku Band Tx/Rx 2 port for Prodelin 1184 Antenna, FEED-VS-180KLMOT; Ku Band Tx/Rx 2 port for Prodelin 1244 Antenna, FEED-VS-240KLMOT; Ku Band 2 port Receive Only Axi-Symmetric, FEED-2KU-MOTO; C/Ku Band 4 port Receive Only Axi-Symmetric, FEED-4CKU- MOTO-EXT; C CP / Ku LP 4 port Receive Only Axi-Symmetric, FEED-4CCKU- MOTO; C/Ku Band 4 port Receive Only Axi-Symmetric, Comtech 3.8m Continued on Page 29 Continued on Page 29 Continued on Page 29 Continued on Page 29 AIR COMM OFFERING 'BUY ONE GET ONE FREE' SELECT RADIOS HOW REACH ENGINE GOT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE LIVE EXPERIENCE VIKING SATCOM: YOUR TRUSTED SOURCE FOR SATELLITE EQUIPMENT
