For the last decade, the two companies have helped drivers get where they are going with Garmin's easy-to-use, turn-by-turn framework within the touch- screen experience of Kenwood's advanced technology multimedia receivers. JVCKenwood sought out the part- nership with Garmin at a time when in- vehicle navigation was just becoming popular among the OEMS, and several of Kenwood's competitors were investing in proprietary solutions. "Although Kenwood first entered the navigation market in 2001, after a few years we experienced difficulty achieving long-term development goals and meeting market demands. We soon realized we needed a new partnership in order to be relevant in this quickly grow- ing and price-sensitive category," said JVCKenwood General Manager, Product and Research and Development Manager, Rick Noetzli. "Garmin was among the top names in navigation, and we saw a company that not only continuously improved its technology, but invested heavily in creating the ideal user experience. Its goals mir- rored ours in terms of adding convenience and safety without a compli- cated learning curve. Plus, we felt the association of two top brands would attract customers who already use and trust Garmin." In 2006, Kenwood introduced its first Garmin-ready multimedia receivers. They used a plug-in navigation module (KNA-G510) to add navigation to the receiver's screen. In 2007, with the release of the DNX7100, Kenwood was able to integrate Garmin navigation within the receiver, easing the installation process and offering customers more value. Today, Garmin navigation is a mainstay in four 2016 mul- timedia models, and with the release of the new DNX893S at this year's International CES, it joins Apple CarPlay ® and Android Auto™ to provide drivers with the ulti- mate safety and entertainment combina- tion. Sync to Cloud ALC understands how important it is to have a back-up copy of some of the recordings into your personal archive. It has developed an option to sync files to the cloud, for free. The user will also be able to set up a daily sync time of the selected files, so it will not occupy your bandwidth during regular usage. GHOSTDRONE 2.0 BY EHANG MAKES FLYING EASY FOR EVERYONE By now, most of us would agree that consumer drones are here to stay. But even though drones have been edging into the mainstream market, enthusiasts have largely been limited to a group of tech savvy hobbyists and professionals aiming to capture slick aerial footage – in other words, not your everyday consumer. But a new surge in technolo- gy and forward-thinking companies in the industry are aiming to change all of that. UAV company EHANG Inc., (CES, #25208, LVCC South Hall 2) is at the forefront of this shift, and its latest drone – The GhostDrone 2.0 – has turned the industry on its head by creating a drone that makes the piloting experience acces- sible to anyone. Founded in 2014 by Huazhi Hu, a successful information technology entrepreneur and flying enthusiast, EHang launched GhostDrone 2.0 with the intent of developing a truly immersive flying experience by combin- ing first-person virtual reality and ges- ture-based tilt control to replace unwieldy RCA controls. "The GhostDrone 2.0 has trans- formed the piloting experience," explained Derrick Xiong, Co-founder of Ehang, headquartered in Guangzhou, China, with offices in Beijing and San Francisco. "My founder and I always felt that drones were too unapproachable for the average consumer, even though they stood so much to gain from flying them. That notion was at the center of every- thing we built for the GhostDrone 2.0; with the accompanying EHang Play smartphone app, amateur and experi- enced users alike have the chance to feel like they're flying the drone with a flick of their wrist." Deemed Avatar mode, GhostDrone 2.0 pilots steer the drone by merely angling their smartphone. The virtual reality goggles also provide a first person view through a head- tracking camera. Video is live streamed directly into the gog- gles, so the pilot can easily see what their drone sees. The head- tracking sensor fol- lows your head's movements, up and down. Together, these elements make aerial filming easy and fun. Ease of use doesn't mean the GhostDrone has lost any of its high- tech specs. "We completely redesigned GhostDrone 2.0 from the ground up," Xiong said. "Our engineering depart- ment honed in on building better flight controls, power systems and a smart battery. What's more, the 2.0 has an upgraded global GPS system, which makes the drone much more stable when in-flight." The 2.0 also features a state-of-the- art power system to enable faster flight, made possible by a unique down-facing rotor and self-tightening propellers. Reimagined landing gear guarantees an easier and safer take- off and landing expe- rience as well. For all of the photography fans out there, the Ghost Drone 2.0 also offers a top-line tool for aerial footage: a 4k camera. With a res- olution that's four times higher than 1080p, you can say goodbye to the "fisheye" effect and look forward to the most clear aerial photos and videos you've ever taken. The 4k camera works perfectly with the Ghost's new three-axis gimbal, giving you the flexi- bility to change direction for that per- fect shot every time. In short? The GhostDrone 2.0's accessibility, married with top-line specs, has just ushered the drone market into a new era.
