Don't be fooled by companies that claim they have screen protectors that are "antimicrobial/bac- terial." The majority of these screen protectors are topically coated and extensive testing has proved that the coating typically lasts less than 60 days on a touch screen device. It will rub off; otherwise why would they rec- ommend that you replace it every 90 days? Additionally, most are not registered or list- ed with the FDA or EPA. Further, these screen protectors are made of a plastic known as polyethylene terephthalate (PET), which is highly susceptible to scratches, abrasions and offers no impact resistance. By now we should all know how dirty and disgusting our cell phones are. According to Dr. Charles Gerba, cell phones are the No. 1 dirtiest item we come in con- tact with multiple times per day, harboring as many as 25,000 germs per square inch. Further, there are documented studies that show we can get acne from our smartphone devices. According to Neil Sadick, MD, "Holding your phone against your cheek traps oil in the pores, which can lead to those deep-forming acne cysts." Dermatologists BUYER BEWARE: NOT ALL ANTIMICROBIAL SCREEN PROTECTORS CREATED EQUAL By Glenn Laxdal, CTO at Ericsson North America 5G, the next big step in the evolution of mobile communication tech- nologies, will have a massive impact on industry and society. In 2020, we will see the commercialization of 5G networks, connecting five bil- lion additional people to the Internet, as well as tens of billions of devices. We expect data rates that will let you download a full-length HD movie in seconds – even from a high speed train. Energy efficien- cy will enable years and years of battery life for low power devices. So what is 5G? In its essence, 5G will be a new standard when it comes to radio based mobile connectivity following the current 4G standard, also known as LTE. The ambition is that 5G will give considerably more bandwidth (capacity) and speed com- pared to current technologies. In addition to increased speed and capacity, 5G will also shorten latency considerably. If 4G has been about everyone being connected, 5G is about everything being An interview with Joseph Cerquone, Director of Public Relations, American Speech-Language. CEDN: The American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA) polled parents of children ages newborn to eight about how technology use is impacting the development of their chil- dren's communication and skills. What did the polling show? JC: More than half of the parents polled expressed concern that misuse of technology may be harming their children's hearing. Even more, 72 percent, agreed that loud noise from technology may lead to hearing loss in their children. Apart from that, majorities of parents worried that misuse of technology may be eroding the quality of their con- versations with their children or reducing the number of conversations that occur. Such findings are troubling.
