THE NEW STANDARD: PROSTAKE PLATFORM BODY Morgan Corporation is proud to announce the latest addition to its Bailment Pool program – the Morgan ProStake. From bulkhead to bumper, every inch of the ProStake is designed to max- imize function and versatility. With stan- dard body lengths ranging from 9 to 16 feet, the ProStake was created to exceed the needs of landscapers, maintenance crews, contractors and service-industry providers. In addition to innovative design, Morgan built ProStake with the strength, durability and dependability business owners demand. BUILDERS FIND STRATEGIC LOCATION, RIGHT RESOURCES, IN WEST VIRGINIA Construction companies shipping to or receiving from markets in the U.S. find a strategically central location in West Virginia. The state sits within an eight- hour drive to more than half the U.S. population, and more than one-third of the Canadian. The West Virginia Development Office conducts an active program designed to expand the state's exports in prime sectors, including build- ing-related categories such as wood products. With more than 12 million acres of forestland, West Virginia ranks as the third most heavily forested state in the nation, and places second in hardwoods. More than 98 percent of the forested land is classified as commercial forestland. The Development Office, joined by several construction industry-related companies, is exhibiting at the National Association of Home Builders International Builders' Show™ (IBS), Las Vegas. Manufacturers exhibiting in booth #S1467 with the Development Office are: Multicoat Corporation, (www.multicoat.com) construction coatings including concrete restoration, water- proofing and stucco; Terramite, (www.terramite.com) compact tractor loader backhoes; Appalachian Log Structures, (www.applog.com) log home building components in linear foot or precut log home kits, picnic shelters and commercial structures; EZEBREAK, (www.micro-blaster.com) Micro-Blaster suite of patented r o c k - b r e a k i n g equipment used by contractors, excava- tors and other field workers; and Mountain Craft Wide Plank, (email w v c u s t o m h a r d - woods@yahoo.com) wide-plank flooring in hickory, cherry, maple, red oak and white oak in six, eight and 10-inch widths. COMPOSITE TOTAL JOISTS CREATE NEW OPPORTUNITIES FOR NON-COMBUSTIBLE CONSTRUCTION iSPAN Systems' Composite Total Joist floor system is creating new opportuni- ties for multi-residential construction. Whether light gauge steel, ICF, masonry or concrete, Composite Total Joists offer superior performance, lightweight con- struction, improved acoustic ratings, faster construction and lower costs. Composite Total Joists utilize iSPAN's unique light gauge steel Total Joists with a welded shoe for top chord bearing and a unique dovetail steel deck, Total Lewis Deck, which interlocks with the concrete topping to form composite action between the concrete and steel joist. This composite action greatly increases the joist strength, allowing for 48 inch joist spacing and spans up to 40 feet. Composite Total Joists can be used on almost any height of building, and iSPAN recently supplied Composite Total Joists for a 10 story project in New Jersey. A big advantage to using Composite Total Joists is they are light- weight, combining to reduce the support- ing wall/beams and foundation/transfer slab. Composite Total Joists typically uti- lize a three-inch concrete topping, which is half the weight of a traditional precast floor. Reduced dead loads also reduce the seismic weight and design of the build- ing, reducing the lateral system and foun- dations substantially. Another big advan- tage to Composite Total Joists is their pre-cut service holes, which allow HVAC and plumbing to be run through the joists in place of running services below the ceiling, avoiding the cost, time and often- unwanted appearance of bulkheads and increasing ceiling height. The Composite Total Joist floor assembly also gives a STC rating of 58, substantially higher than traditional floor assemblies. Composite Total Joists also offer a big improvement over traditional cold formed C-shape joists. Due to the com- posite action, joists are spaced much fur- ther apart, typically 48" c/c, and are much easier to install as they are top chord bearing. They also offer simpler fire ratings for both the floor and walls. Total Joists are manufactured at the company's plant in Princeton, Ontario. iSPAN Systems deals direct with the customer and uses Revit technology to create and manufacture joists to length for each project, including precise service hole placement, joist lay- outs and divisioning and accessory takeoff. iSPAN also has dedicated technical representa- tives that work with contractors, archi- tects and engineers from design through construction to help co-ordinate details such as ductwork, floor penetrations and other aspects to ensure the developer and future home owner receive the system's full advantages.
