C h a i n D ru g s to re D a i l y Tu e s d a y, Au g u s t 2 6 , 2 0 1 4 2 4 PRASCO: A YEAR OF MOMENTUM Thus far, 2014 has been a year of steady momentum for Prasco, an independent healthcare company dedicated to expand- ing horizons for pharmacy customers, their patients and the company's pharma- ceutical partners. The combination of Prasco's expansive knowledge and proven experience across both the brand and generic marketplaces has resulted in the company's launching more Authorized Generic products in the first half of this year than in any other six month period of its history, totaling nine new products. This year also marks the 10th anniversary since Prasco launched its first Authorized Generic (AG) product. Prasco continues to lead this category and has helped to bring more AG prod- ucts to the marketplace than anyone else in the industry. Prasco Authorized Generics are brand name drugs manufac- tured under the innovator's New Drug Application (NDA) and sold in the gener- ic marketplace under a private label. AGs are identical to the brand product in size, shape, color, active and inactive ingredi- ents, providing consumers with the exact experience they have taking the brand drug. Through Authorized Generics, brand pharmaceuti- cal companies are tapping into Prasco's unique market- place expertise – transcend- ing the lifecycle of their brand products into the expanded reach of the generics market- place. This lifecycle extension option not only gives Prasco's brand partners an opportunity to prolong the life of their brand name drugs but also provides phar- macists and patients with a preferable alternative to other generic drugs. Success in the Authorized Generic field requires a reliable and experienced partner to help navigate challenges and mar- ketplace complexities. With its dedication to quality, sup- ply and service, Prasco is that partner – helping to increase competition in the marketplace and provide more options for customers and patients. TAPPING INTO THE GROWING TATTOO AFTERCARE MARKET A recent Pew Research Center survey showed that three out of four people between the ages of 18 and 40 have a tat- too. In all, more than 45 million Americans have tattoos. The body art aftercare market represents a growing opportunity for chain drug stores, as peo- ple with tattoos look for products to help clean and protect their new body art. Innovacyn Inc., a leader in wound and skin care products, worked with top industry artists to create Articyn™ Body Art and Tattoo Cleanser and Aftercare liquid. Articyn is a non-toxic, non-irritat- ing product cleared by the FDA for the OTC management of skin abrasions and lacerations. Available in a convenient two-ounce bottle with a pump spray, Articyn contains no steroids, antibiotics, alcohol, iodine, petroleum or lanolin. When developing Articyn Body Art and Tattoo, Innovacyn went to the front lines of the tattoo world and worked with industry artists to develop and test the product. The input from these experts guided the final formulation and launch of Articyn. "After testing Articyn Body Art and Tattoo in my studio for nine months, I can say first-hand that it is more reliable than any product we have ever had available to the industry," said Kris Lachance, Owner of Splash of Color Tattoo and Safe Art Works. Articyn Body Art and Tattoo doesn't require any mixing, dilu- tion or rinsing after use. The doc- tor-tested formula has been clini- cally proven to be safe for use on wounds. Articyn has not been shown to fade color or damage the integri- ty of body art. "For years, Innovacyn has been a trusted name in wound and skin care management. We see the tattoo and body art industry as a real match for our technology, and believe that chain drug stores are a natural channel for people who are looking for safe aftercare products for their tattoos," said Scott Allen, Director of Sales of Innovacyn. NEW PRODUCTS ADDED TO SURECOMFORT LINE Allison Medical continues to add new sizes and products to the SureComfort diabetic supplies line. Earlier this year, two additional sizes were added to the pen needle offering, the 30G x 8mm and 32G x 6mm, making it one of most exten- sive pen needle offerings on the market. SureComfort pen needles were also made available in 50 count packaging in certain sizes. The newest size to be added to the line is the SureComfort Micron (32G x 4mm). As the thinnest gauge and shortest needle currently available on the market, the Micron rounds out the SureComfort pen needle offering. President Lance Ferrin explained, "With the continued growth in the pen needle category, we are focused on pro- viding all the pen needle sizes the con- sumer demands." This year also saw the introduction of a new SureComfort safety lancet line. With the increased awareness of needle safety for both patients and health care pro- fessionals, safety products continue to be a growing and necessary segment of the market. The new SureComfort safety lancet line is avail- able in four gauges, ranging from 18G to 30G, with a pressure activated, single use, retractable needle. The SureComfort safety lancets offer a convenient, easy and safe blood sampling option. "Our goal is to continue to add rele- vant diabetic products to the SureComfort line," said Allison Medical's President, Lance Ferrin. "We will continue to look for additions that make sense for our customers and our retail partners." In addition to the SureComfort line, Allison Medical also manufactures a full line of general syringes, veterinary syringes, blood collection needles, stoppers and closures and disease control products.
