H a rd wa re & H o u s e wa re s Re vi e w 3 3 Tu e s d a y, M a y 6 , 2 0 1 4 Rack™ Grilling System (model #50491) is a versatile grilling grate and bracket that work together to replace seven other grilling tools. Louis Chalfant, Senior Product Designer and Engineer, said, "Our new Versa-Rack was designed to provide the user with a means of cooking/grilling items that would normally take up valu- able space on the grilling surface. With the Versa-Rack, you could literally cook five to six different foods at one time. It was designed with both grilling enthusi- asts and novice grillers in mind, and will make a nice addition to an outdoor kitchen or provide extra grilling space for someone looking to expand his or her grilling capabilities." The new Versa-Rack replaces seven different grilling tools. It can be used to grill ribs, drumsticks, stuffed jalapenos, beer can chicken, corn, pota- toes and gourmet style pizzas. It also serves as a tool for indirect heating. Because the specially-designed rack can be raised or lowered to different heights, cooks can now control the cooking speed and temperature of the food by adjusting the elevation of the grate. The Versa-Rack is constructed of heavy duty steel and wire and is dish- washer safe. It fits most medium to large size grills and has a three-year manufacturer's limited warranty. The "hottest" new grilling tool from Smith's Consumer Products will be available later this year at specialty, sporting goods and hardware retailers, via online and mail order catalogs, or direct from Smith's. SS: TerraLUX is a lighting company spe- cializing in the design, manufacture and distribution of LED portable and illumi- nation products. Our first product was a Maglite MiniMag™ LED upgrade kit that we released back in 2003. The portable division of TerraLUX now includes a series of LED upgrades for Maglite™ and Streamlight™ flashlights, as well as a full line of cutting edge flash- lights, worklights and headlamps. Our illumination business has really taken off over the last year. Expect some amazing things in 2014 as well! HHR: What would you say makes your company unique? SS: Our people and our technology. The TerraLUX team is amazingly smart and hardworking. They are creative and con- tinually find ways to increase performance and efficiencies while protecting the LEDs from potential thermal damage. It is because of our people that TerraLUX has a growing catalog of intellectual property and patents and is a solid market provider for leading-edge LED technologies. HHR: Are you introducing any new products? SS: As a matter of fact, we are! We've begun production of our brand new Pro- TerraLUX ( Cont'd. from p. 1) 4 convertible flashlight, and will start shipping this month. It's a very innova- tive product, a high performance flash- light and personal flex-neck worklight all-in-one. The head of the light can be easily removed from the flex-neck and attached directly to the body of the flashlight. Voilá, you have a compact, personal carry light that can produce 350 ANSI lumens on just two AA bat- teries. When you need a hands-free worklight, you just reverse the process and attach the flex-neck assembly between the body and the head, then attach the magnetic mount, and you can easily position the light exactly where you need it; hands-free. The Pro-4 con- vertible also has five separate light modes so you can choose the exact amount of light needed for each task. HHR: Who are your target end-users? SS: Our products and price points cover everyone from the casual user to the elite tactical operator. I would say the majori- ty of our product really speaks to what we refer to as the pro-sumer; your pro- fessional plumbers, HVAC technicians, auto mechanics, electricians or hardcore weekenders. These are all individuals who rely on their tools – who want and expect their tools to work and last. Visit TerraLUX at booth 3741. One tool that makes this possible is the Kreg Jig ® , the most respected name in pocket-hole joinery tools, and one that builders have relied on for 25 years. The all-new Kreg Jig K5 incorporates the best features of every Kreg Jig that came before, with a batch of new upgrades that make it more capable and easier to use. Those features start with an all- new clamping mechanism that has a front-mounted handle and adjusts to different workpiece thicknesses with- out tools or adjusting nuts. That means it's faster and easier than ever to set up the jig, and to change setups as you move from project to project. The Kreg Jig K5 also features a quick-release Drill Guide Block that further speeds setup, and that can be used portably, allowing you to create strong, tight-fit- ting Kreg Joints anywhere you need them. Plus, the new K5 can be outfitted with the Kreg Micro Pocket™ Drill Guide that's perfect for use with thin- ner materials, and the Kreg Jig HD that creates heavy-duty Kreg Joints in mate- rials 1-1/2 inches thick and thicker. Kreg Tool ( Cont'd. from p. 1) Coupled with Kreg screws that are available in zinc, weather-coated and stainless steel, the Kreg Jig K5 makes it easy to add custom home features indoors and outdoors. Kreg also helps you reduce labor, with a lineup of clamps that make it easy to position and hold the parts of a project during assembly. Kreg's innovative new Kreg Automaxx™ clamps also make clamping fast and foolproof by adjusting automatically to match the thickness of the material. That saves time because you can clamp materials that are thick, thin or in-between without ever having to adjust the clamp. Automaxx clamps are avail- able in two styles and sizes to provide fast and foolproof solutions for a wide array of clamping jobs. A RESPONSIBLE CORPORATE CITIZEN: GENERAL SHALE Brick is one of the world's oldest green building materials, having been made and used in one form or another for 10,000 years. With a life cycle of more than 100 years, brick outperforms other exterior building materials in both energy efficiency and its ability to withstand severe weather conditions, as well as natural disasters. General Shale, headquartered in Johnson City, Tenn., has been a leading manufacturer of brick for more than 85 years. Throughout its lifespan, the North American subsidiary of Wienerberger AG has been committed to upholding its commitment to environmental steward- ship and sustainability by creating a cul- ture of responsible corporate citizenship in all aspects of its operations. A cornerstone of General Shale's success has been its ongoing commit- ment to reclamation. Each year, General Shale invests thousands of dollars to ensure that reclaimed areas at its manu- facturing sites look as good as or better than they did prior to the reclamation process. For example, after material was removed from the company's former Somerset, Va., site, most of the reclaimed land was converted into a 95-acre area that has been made suitable for hay pro- duction or pastureland. Three permanent ponds covering 10 acres, in addition to a 13-acre wetland, were created and now serve as a wildlife habitat with a thriving population of deer, ducks, geese, bluegill, smallmouth bass and catfish. The company's dedication to corpo- rate social responsibility is also evidenced via its expansive recycling program, which requires the routine recycling of paper, cardboard, newspapers, maga- zines, telephone books, junk mail, bottles, cans, plastic strapping, used motor oil, food boxes and other materials. "At General Shale, we have adopted green practices that pay dividends in the form of natural resource conservation, pollu- tion control and waste removal cost reduc- tion," said General Shale CEO Dick Green. "We are particularly proud of our award- winning reclamation efforts and the recy- cling programs that have been implemented at each of our 54 locations nationwide." General Shale's dedication to sustain- ability is also visible throughout the com- pany's expansive product line, which now includes Endurance RS4™ Structural Brick. Oversized for safer, stronger, more sustainable and energy-efficient construc- tion, Endurance RS4 Brick ("RS4" stands for "Real Strong, Real Safe, Real Sustainable, Real Smart) can be installed with minimal labor and overall cost adjust- ments. In addition, when combined with continuous insulation, the product is the ideal solution for complying with the 2012 International Energy Conservation Code, which contains stringent requirements for insulation in new buildings in the U.S. in order to improve energy efficiency. "General Shale's growth and success reflect our continuing commitment to environmental stewardship by providing enduring, sustainable, quality products and supporting them with outstanding service," Green said. "We look forward to continuing these efforts for many gen- erations to come." For more information, visit www.general shale.com, call 800-414-4661 or email dawn.henning@generalshale.com.
