O C G S e c u r i t y D a i l y W e d n e s d a y, S e p t e m b e r 2 5 , 2 0 1 3 3 0 shapes and sizes, but they are all designed to do one thing: keep unwel- come vehicles out! They come with one of three ratings, M50, M40 and M30, for- merly K12, K8 and K4. These ratings signify the gate can withstand impact speeds of vehicles traveling 50, 30, and 40 miles per hour, respectively. There is also an "L" factor; this determines how much penetration past the gate the vehi- cle achieves after impact. OSD: What advice can you give to any- one that may be in the market for such a system? MK: Bigger is not necessarily better. Why pay $30,000 more to acquire a stopping distance of three feet or less when the nearest assist is 100 yards away? The same issue arises when dealing with the speed of the vehicle. Why pay more for the required stop- ping of a vehicle at 50mph when mak- ing the turn into your complex does not allow the vehicle to reach these speeds? The third item to look at is the actual testing of the gate, called the crash test. With today's technologies, a computer- generated engineering analysis is just Logical Decisions (Cont'd. from p. 1) as effective, if not more so, as an actu- al crash test. OSD: Wow, that seems like a lot to process. Where should one begin? MK: The first step should be to call LDI. We work with our customers to reach the proper, logical decision as to the actual requirements needed for the job at hand. We will work with all par- ties involved in order to reach the most cost effective solution to any situation. Most crash gate companies only pro- vide a few standard models, whereas LDI will custom design a system to meet your needs. OSD: How can our readers find out more information? MK: Our specially designed website, www.crashgate.com, contains great information as well as pictures. Also, calling 800-676-5537 will provide you with all the information you will ever need. For more information, visit booth 1182 at ASIS 2013, go online to www.ldi.com, call 800-676-5537 or email sales@ldi.com. retailers and private businesses in the country. OSD: What would you say makes SEB unique? JB: We have always felt that the small or mid-sized security companies are better capable of providing a more personal type of service that is based on quality and customer satisfaction. This is some- thing that we hear with increased fre- quency throughout our industry is miss- ing within many large security compa- nies. Our core strengths are in communi- cating with our clients, supervising our people, proactive planning and an expression of respect and compassion toward our employees which is echoed in our management. We clearly understand that there are literally thousands of secu- rity companies which our clients could choose from to service their needs. That's why our mantra has always been "above all else satisfy our client's needs, or someone else will." OSD: What type of security detail best fits SEB's experience? JB: We have been in business since 1989, and during these past 24 years have provided our guard services to hundreds of different types of business and events of every imaginable type and size. Because of this, the spectrum of our security services which we provide is vir- tually unlimited given our experience. OSD: What aspect of your service do you see as being the most attractive to your clients? SEB Security (Cont'd. from p. 1) JB: The unabated access they have to our Owner and CEO, Robert DiNozzi. The truth is most companies our size or larger have purposely built firewalls between its ownership and the clients they service after the contract has been signed. However, Bob feels that most intelligent business owners recognize early on that they themselves are a direct reflection of their company, and if their relationships aren't considered a valued asset to their clients, why should the client continue to do busi- ness with them? There aren't many CEOs who have their home phone number printed on their business cards like Bob DiNozzi. OSD: How do you handle sales? JB: If someone would like information on our services, I encourage them to call me at any time, day or night at 219-916- 4192, or if they initially prefer less direct contact they should visit our website at www.sebsecurity.com, which gives details regarding all of our provided serv- ices, office locations, and the ability to accept on-line quote requests. OSD: Does SEB provide emergency security coverage? JB: Yes we do. As a matter of fact, a great deal of our business relationships are developed this way. We recognized long ago that emergency requests for coverage are opportunities which should- n't be passed over. For more information, visit booth 3906 at ASIS, go online to www.sebsecurity.com, call 312-243-1961 or 914-741-1000, or email james.biggs@sebsecurity.com. RK: All other contacts are made with a 75-year-old technology called a reed switch. This reed was developed for the telecommunications industry back in the 1930s. It was never meant to be a securi- ty device and it doesn't provide any security. The Magnasphere switch is an award-winning security contact that overcomes all the vulnerabilities of the reed switch. OSD: Why should an ASIS member want to use Magnasphere products? RK: I tell security managers that they should only use Magnasphere contacts if they are serious about security. The old reed-based contacts can easily be defeat- ed. If you were responsible for securing a facility, you would want the perimeter protected with contacts that are defeat resistant, not contacts that any teenager knows how to bypass. OSD: Are all your products listed by a recognized testing laboratory? RK: The short answer is yes. All our prod- ucts are approved. In fact, U.L. recognized the ease with which a BMS contact, made Magnasphere (Cont'd. from p. 1) with reed switches, could be defeated. They created a new, very high standard called UL-634 Level 2, aimed at protect- ing against a "trusted" insider. This stan- dard is called out when you need security at the highest level. Magnasphere's Level 2 contacts are the recognized leader in high security contacts. OSD: Can Magnasphere contacts be used to upgrade an existing facility to make it more secure? RK: Absolutely! Magnasphere contacts are available in practically every shape and size as the old reed-based contacts. Upgrading and replacing existing equip- ment is part of every security manager's responsibility. Unlike replacing cameras that can be very costly, making your perimeter more secure is very affordable and has an immediate impact. OSD: Is Magnasphere widely available? RK: Our products are available at major alarm equipment distributors. For more information, visit booth 1387 at ASIS 2013, go online to www.magnas- phere.com, call 262-347-0711 or email Rkirschman@Magnasphere.com. OSD: What would you say makes your company unique? DC: When you purchase a product from most companies, you are locked in to the features that they decide you should have. Telaeris is different in that no mat- ter how large or small the customer, we do an excellent job enhancing our solu- tions with customer specific features to meet their needs. These enhancements get added to the product in weeks, not months or years. We have always placed the same level of importance on all of our clients, which I think creates the opportu- nity for exceptional business relation- ships. OSD: What particular products will you be showcasing at ASIS 2013? DC: At ASIS we will be demonstrating our latest version of XPressEntry and mobile devices used to integrate with it. We have our SmartAT handheld reader, which is able to read any credential types, allowing you to authenticate and track your employees. Additionally, we will be demonstrating the functions of XPressEntry on a rugged, IP65 rated, tablet device. This product gives you a live view of the occupancy of your facil- ity while vastly improving employee safety in an emergency muster event. The tablet comes with an integrated barcode and smartcard reader, which is a new offering for a tablet device. OSD: What distinguishes your product from your competition? DC: Traditionally, handheld solutions take a snapshot of your users and only authenticate from a local database. XPressEntry is different in that data from any physical access control system is Telaeris (Cont'd. from p. 1) updated continuously. This allows our system to work either in an online or offline mode, providing the security operator knowledge that they have the latest possible access and revocation lists. Additionally, our base solution pro- vides the ability to switch any device from enter/exit mode to verification mode to emergency muster mode, all in one package. Finally, our SmartAT hard- ware is able to be customized to read any credential: Barcode, HID Prox, Indala, Casi Rusco, PIV, DESFire, Mifare, ISO 15693, ISO14443, or even EPC Gen 2. OSD: Who are your target end users? DC: We view XPressEntry as being the ideal access control solution when hard infrastructure is not available or when the security guard needs to be mobile. We have deployed XPressEntry at military bases, petro-chemical plants, airports, ski resorts, government facilities, construc- tion yards and banks, just to name a few locations. One of the most interesting deployments was monitoring work crews entering a 13 story heat exchanger – an OSHA regulated confined space – during a refinery maintenance event. The end result was a huge increase in productivi- ty as employees no longer had to wait to sign in and sign out of the facility. OSD: How can our readers find out more about your company? DC: At Telaeris we have a lot of different resources for someone to find out more about us. On the website you can also find our informational blog relating to the technology around mobile access control and RFID.
