F o o d M a g i c D a i l y M o n d a y, J u l y 1 5 , 2 0 1 3 8 SCANNING THE COMPLIANCE HORIZON WITH NEW DECERNIS PATENT Decernis LLC has been awarded another patent for a system that dis- covers and tracks regulatory and scien- tific developments related to product manufacturing and food and beverage processing. Any new, proposed, or final regula- tions and publications (such as a new sci- entific study about health risks) are vital- ly important for a manufacturer to hear of as soon as possible. Decernis' new patent, US 8,290,965, issued on October 16, 2012, is an innovation in discovering and analyzing events from a publication in any language. A manufacturer or food processor today is overloaded with too much information, and often has an inability to find the right information. Global markets and Internet publications have made this challenge very difficult and fast-moving. When a manufacturer is surprised by such developments, it can have a serious impact. Time is critical. Horizon scanning of such develop- ments enables earlier identification and earlier response. Trend analysis of such publications also permits anticipation of future developments. The Decernis system is an innovative step, and provides its clients with the identification and trend analysis of such critical events, in real-time on the Internet or in a collection of docu- ments on a network. The system also permits substance- and commodity- specific tracking. One application of this technology is Decernis' news service that discov- ers regulatory and scientific develop- ments related to global product safety. Decernis has developed a multi-lin- gual library of five million key terms of concepts related to risks and haz- ards. Decernis News identifies such events on a daily basis as a service to its clients. Decernis LLC has its headquar- ters, global operations, and subsidary organizations in Washington, D.C., and it provides information systems and content for global food, consumer, and industrial product safety. The company tracks developments in more than one hundred and thirty countries. Its clients include governmental agencies such as FDA, EFSA and OECD; food and consumer product manufacturers; raw material manufacturers; law firms; and laboratories. Learn more at www.decernis.com. It is rapidly becoming the go- to ingredient and making its way into the forefront of ingredients. From baked goods to savory dishes, it is easily ITO EN (Cont'd. from p. 1) becoming a staple in the American diet. As more Americans embrace a healthier lifestyle, green tea is rapidly becoming a mainstream ingredient. From mixing it into smoothies to whisking it with the tra- ditional bamboo whisk – the chasen – Matcha is fast and furiously becoming a product in demand. THE EZ GRIP FRY BASKET: GRAB IT, GRIP IT, LOVE IT Unlike many kitchen hazards that are eas- ily visible, ergonomic hazards impact workers over time and are not immediate- ly recognized as harmful. If you've ever slung fried food as a part of your job, then you know how much of a toll a food-laden basket can take on the wrist or forearm. A load of fries in a basket might only weigh 5 lbs.; however, the force on the hand can be 15 to 18 lbs. due to handle length and the distance the hand is from the center of gravity of the basket. The current flat han- dle design of most fry baskets makes them awkward to hold, especially when filled. Turning the basket to dump its contents is not as easy as it should be, and over time the user feels unnecessary fatigue. FMP's new EZ Grip Fry basket han- dle is an innovation in kitchen ergonom- ics. The vinyl-coated handle is designed to better fit the natural shape of the hand when gripping. This physiological differ- ence means less "squeezing," which translates to reduced stress on the hand, wrist and forearm. The improved grip also provides better leverage when turn- ing the basket to dump its contents. The FMP line of fry baskets includes the EZ Grip basket, which is a regular fry basket with a vinyl-coated EZ Grip han- dle, and the EZ Grip Plus, which, along with the innovative handle, comes with a patented corner reinforcement and a dou- ble front hook. These features add signif- icant durability to the EZ Grip Plus and allow the manufacturer to offer a two year guarantee on the life of the basket. For more information on EZ Grip fry baskets and a full line of fryer acces- sories, visit www.fmponline.com or call 800-257-7737. THE BLIXER IS THE PERFECT MACHINE FOR HEALTHCARE FOODSERVICE The Blixer ® was developed by Robot Coupe to process food for preparing texture-modified meals (down to liquid feedings) and to take the hard work out of preparing liquid or semi-liquid foods. With the Blixer the composition of meals is preserved whether starter, main course, or dessert and either raw or cooked; and its full nutritional value is maintained – there is no loss of essential vitamins. The Blixer makes it possible to serve the same foods to everyone in your healthcare establish- ment, saving you time and money by eliminating the need to purchase expensive pre-pureed foods and mak- ing it possible for you to serve the same foods to all the residents in your estab- lishment. The Blixer will not only pre- pare your mechanically-altered diets, but it will do it in just seconds. Typical healthcare functions would be spoon feedings with minced foods, vegetable mousses and purees and compotes of stewed fruits, semi-liquid feedings (prepared by diluting spoon- feed preparations) including soups, minced meat and gravy, pureed foods with liquid added and fruit compotes with syrup or water added, and liquid feedings used for soups or any food that can be liquidized. Features unique to the Blixer that make this processing possible are its bowl and lid scraper for overall process- ing, see-through lid to allow the addition of liquid or ingredients during the pro- cessing process, lid fitted with watertight seal, high hub in stainless steel bowl to enable processing large liquid quantity, and blade assembly with micro-serrated blade for overall processing. Robot Coupe has added three new Blixers to expand its line of Blixers to meet the needs of all healthcare institu- tions – from the Blixer 2 to the Blixer 60. The Blixer 8 with an 8-quart stain- less steel bowl is recommended to pre- pare from 20 to 150 meals. The Blixer 10 with a 10-quart stain- less steel bowl is recommended to pre- pare from 50 to 150 meals. The Blixer 15 with a 15-quart stain- less steel bowl is recommended to pre- pare from 50 to 250 meals. Robot Coupe is the inventor and leading innovator of food service equip- ment for more than 45 years and has a complete line of commercial food processors, vegetable prep machines, vertical cutter-mixers, Blixers, power mixers, juicers and extractors.
