PSD: NNZ entered Snack Fresh in the United Fresh New Product awards and made it as a finalist. What prompted the design and development of this packaging entry? SG: Yes, we were very pleased to see that Snack Fresh is in consideration as a finalist in the United Fresh New Fresh Origins (Cont'd. from p. 1) Sasuga, after growing flowering plants for 20 years. David always wanted to grow fresh produce and the opportunity came unexpectedly. Back in 1995, a local chef came to our greenhouse and got excited when he saw some basil seedlings growing there. He wanted to try using them to accent his plate presentations, and although it did not make a lot of sense at the time, it was then that David began producing these and other varieties of tiny, fresh-cut seedlings destined for restaurants in Orange County, Calif. Fresh Origins has come a long way since then, and David and his family produce a wide variety of MicroGreens and related items for chefs throughout North America. PSD: What would you say makes your company unique? Triangle Package Machinery (Cont'd. from p. 1) depositing systems for placing weighed products directly into trays, bags, and cartons. All of our machines are manufactured in the USA, in our 120,000square-foot factory in Chicago. PSD: What packaging solutions will you be highlighting at the show? BW: At this year's show, we will showcase our X-Series Bagger with Ultrasonic sealing technology. We believe the costsavings advantages of ultrasonic sealing technology are significant, especially for products in the fresh produce industry that require air-tight packages with 100 percent seal integrity. The ability to seal through leaf-like products means fewer rejected bags. And we can make bags with narrower end seals and smaller headspace, reducing the film needed on Silver Creek (Cont'd. from p. 4) fully customizable to fit any company's needs. Visual Produce supports in full Silver Creek Software's Visual WMS 3.0 and Visual iPad apps. Visual Produce ships with a fully integrated and optimized database that Product awards. Helmut Leili is the inventor and Founder of Cardinal Fresh. Helmut was looking to make a package that would increase consumption of small fresh fruits and vegetables normally sold in clamshells. But he wanted something that was also made from sustainable materials, was economical, easy to use and could be used to help consumers make better health choices for snacks, especially for kids. Helmut approached NNZ to be his distributor and marketing company for Snack Fresh due to our expertise in these areas. PSD: Are there specific market trends or studies that encouraged your decision to market and distribute Snack Fresh? don't have to purchase large quantities of produce when they only want a single serving portion of something healthy. Snack Fresh gives that that choice, at the same time still offering a complete size range opportunity. PSD: What is the target market for Snack Fresh? SG: The ideal market is kids and older generation people who want to eat delicious and healthy snacks on the go and/or in small portion and budget controlled serving sizes. PSD: How does the structural design of this packaging contribute to a more efficient supply chain? We are developing a full spectrum of flavors and colors to be introduced over the coming months. The first four flavors now available and include: basil, fennel flower, rose petals, and mint. PSD: Are you introducing any new products? KS: Yes! Our newest product line is our Herb Crystals and Flower Crystals. They are an innovative original concept from every package. The result is a beautiful looking bag that stays fresher longerand saves money! PSD: How does this solution benefit produce companies? BW: In addition to savings on material, the X-Series bagger is designed specifically to improve OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness). We've reduced and in some cases eliminated non-productive downtime, (i.e. film roll changes, back-seal changes, etc.), reduced parts, eliminated high-wear items, and introduced a "center-lining" feature that makes forming tube size changes a breeze. And the open-frame architecture and pivoting control box provide operators and maintenance personnel with improved "visual inspection" and 360-degree access to the machine. The X-Series can also be designed to provides a safe and reliable environment for each transaction. Visual Produce can also be fully integrated with Microsoft SQL Server to improve security and performance. SQL Server is an industrial strength relational database engine that will meet the requirements for any business, be it small or large. PSD: What distinguishes your products from the competition? KS: Combining the benefits our great weather with a deep passion for quality and innovation, Fresh Origins has become the largest grower of MicroGreens and Edible Flowers in the country. Located near San Diego, we enjoy one of the finest growing climates in the world. Year-round mild sunny weather is the ideal environment to produce strong, healthy, highly flavored, and colorful microgreens. Our products have meet the requirements of USDA and 3-A Sanitary Standards, including the forming tube, which takes sanitation to the highest levels for a VFFS bagger. PSD: What distinguishes your product from the competition? BW: Triangle has been an innovative leader in providing food packaging solutions since 1923, and we work closely with our customers to help them be more productive.Take for instance the work we have been doing for the past five years with ultrasonic sealing technology.
