14 Wednesday, May 15, 2013 GOT NEW HIRES? USE BLUE BOOK SERVICES "If the produce industry was ever simple, it's not simple today," said Jim Carr, President and Owner of Blue Book Services. "There's always more to learn, and for a new hire it can be especially challenging. When we launched the New Hire Academy in December, we did so wanting to help our member companies meet on-the-job challenges and succeed." Blue Book Services, Inc.'s New Hire Academy (NHA) is designed to educate new employees about fundamental aspects of the produce industry, and can also be viewed by experienced produce professionals as a refresher course on a particular topic. "Blue Book's New Hire Academy will be a part of every new employee's first weeks of training—but just as important, NHA has become an important experience for all our long-tenured veterans as well," said Doug Stoiber, Vice President of Produce Transportation Operations at LMTS. The NHA curriculum consists of five detailed courses and is available to members through Blue Book Online Services IT'S ALL ABOUT YOUR PRODUCT WITH AWARD-WINNING PACKAGING FROM ORICS INDUSTRIES Wholesale changes have occurred in the produce departments of supermarkets and club stores where refrigerated products with long shelf lives answer Americans' desires to eat healthier foods that are also convenient to prepare and serve. "Packaging is very important because that is what often what sells the product the first time," said Ori Cohen, President and Owner of ORICS. "Small and mid-size processors don't have the same distribution network as a large company, so they need to extend their shelf-life and present a fresh-looking package with high-end shelf appeal. They don't have the same deep pockets or the luxury of dealing with expiring product like the big guys." The acronym PIM stands for Product Integrity Monitoring, reflecting the company's mission: to provide a cold-chain solution to help ensure the freshest and highest quality products are delivered to market. To accomplish this, Pimware has developed a line of easy-to-use products and advanced software to provide the most effective, efficient, and affordable solutions available. Gary Pope, Founding President of Pimware, began building the company in 2009 in Agoura Hills. With a proven track record in software design, Gary Pope's entrepreneurial expertise has helped Pimware advance quickly to gain reputable market recognition. "Pimware's devices are designed to meet the market demand for portable and sophisticated logging products, while still remaining affordable for any company and user-friendly for any employee," said Pope. "This way we can meet the differential needs of a variety of companies across any industry." These products are designed to read temperature—the most important factor in the spoilage of products –document data, and calculate the integrity, or shelf life, of a product during shipping, handling, and storage. Logistical tracking is also available to track batches as they pass through checkpoints and are handled by different workers. When used in conjunction with Pimware's customizable software and databases, these products provide a data logging service unparalleled by any other company on the market. These online tutorials are rigorous and of the highest quality." "The depth, breadth, and thoroughness of topics covered in NHA give our team members invaluable tools in understanding our customers and the industry's needs and expectations. We know of no other source where so much important information can be accessed so easily," said Stoiber, whose company is the official sponsor of NHA.
