26 Wednesday, April 10, 2013 INTEGRATE WITH MYERS' PROTRACK BROADCAST MANAGEMENT By John Shoemaker Integrating broadcast component subsystems in an effective, efficient and cost-effective manner to ensure that the various subsystems work together seamlessly is critical for a broadcaster. In order to do this, one must have a strong breadth and depth of knowledge in regards to broadcast operations workflow. Pulling the disparate parts into a whole and creating an improved functionality and workflow is what Myers has been doing for more than 25 years in the broadcast industry. No broadcast management software platform is as easy to adopt as Myers ProTrack because no other software integrates with your existing systems as readily. ProTrack enables media facilities to employ a single platform to acquire, manage, and schedule content for both linear and non-linear distribution. This centralized and integrated approach dramatically reduces the time, effort, and expense required to ensure all systems and associated databases are in-sync. ProTrack drives workflows by assuming the primary responsibility for all schedule and program metadata. Furthermore, ProTrack provides third party systems with the metadata and execution instructions that they require, in the proper format, when it's needed. ProTrack's integration capabilities include: • Production/Acquisition: Import program and interstitial metadata as content is acquired and/or becomes available. • Station Websites: Export schedules and VISION RESEARCH: THE CUTTING EDGE OF CAMERA TECHNOLOGY An interview with Kevin Gann, Director of R&D, Vision Research. BSD: Tell our readers about your company and your role there. KG: Vision Research designs and manufactures Phantom high-speed cameras. We have been in the high speed imaging industry for more than 60 years. Our cameras are used in a variety of scientific, industrial and military applications for motion analysis, and also in the TV and motion picture industries―primarily for slow motion replays and special effects. As the director of R&D at Vision Research, I oversee engineering efforts and the development of new products. BSD: Tell us about any new products that you are introducing at the show. KG: We are premiering the all-new Phantom Flex4K, our new professional cinema camera that is designed to record at both standard and high frame rates. At 4K resolution it can record anywhere from 24 to more than 1,000 frames per second (FPS), up to 3,800 fps at 1080p resolution and even faster when windowed down further. The custom super 35mm sensor has a max resolution of 4096 by 2304 and provides excellent image quality and light sensitivity. The Phantom Flex4K is a completely self-contained camera system, which can be set up and controlled via the intuitive on-camera control interface. It supports both uncompressed raw recording and in-camera compression to capture to one of several industry standard formats. The camera can be powered by battery or DC power, it has interchangeable lens mounts, and has all the inputs and outputs that are needed for a successful production. NFB CONSULTING GROUP ANNOUNCES SUITELIFE SYSTEMS BRAND NFB Consulting Group, headquartered in Long Beach, Calif., announced at NAB 2013 the launch of the SuiteLife Systems branding of its roster of broadcast and telecommunications software applications. If you like the automation system you have, so does ProTrack. If you would never dream of switching your archiving system again, you won't have to. If BSD: What are some of the challenges that your company faced with this new camera? KG: With the emergence of 4K video standards, the peripherals needed to test our video signal were few and far between during camera development. Fully defining the 4K workflow was a challenge at first, but ultimately deciding to keep the ability to save both downscaled 2K footage and straight 4K footage in a variety of formats, including raw and standard codecs will address most workflow concerns. BSD: What's Research? next for Vision KG: Though we are showing the Phantom Flex4K in its current form here at NAB, there are still features to turn on and work to be done. We plan to use the summer to roll out those features and really run the camera through its paces before it officially hits the market. We plan to start shipments FLO TV mobile television network, deployed Axess and related software products to control and monitor 580 national free to air transmitter sites from a single NOC in San Diego. In October 2010, AT&T acquired the Channel 55 spectrum and Qualcomm subsequently dismantled the FLO TV network. In Asia, NFB is partnering with Singapore-based Cascadiant Energy Pte. Ltd., conducting remote site monitoring and control trials for alternative energy and power management for a GSMA wireless operator. In addition to packaged software products, NFB also provides media delivery and infrastructure design and integration services, managed services models and support packages, including specifically designed implementations addressing cloud- all your accounting system lacks is better, more accurate, timelier information, ProTrack can provide you with an integration solution that will keep revenues flowing.
