Consumer Electronics Daily News Tuesday, January 8, 2019 4 0 Molex Recognized for Groundbreaking Automotive Ethernet Platform Molex has been selected by the editors of Autonomous Vehicle Technology (AVT) magazine as a recipient of a 2018 ACES Award, honoring the most innovative tech- nologies, products and services of the year in the areas of autonomy, connectivity, electrification and mobility services. Molex is being recognized for its Automotive Ethernet Platform, a complete vehicle ecosystem developed to support the rigor- ous autonomous vehicle design challenges faced by vehicle manufacturers. The Molex Automotive Ethernet Platform delivers seamless multi-zone inte- gration across multiple hardware and soft- ware systems, with the flexibility to incor- porate legacy automotive protocols. The high-speed vehicle network platform allows for edge computing, network and device diagnostics, and over-the-air updates with seamless and secure commu- nication between the vehicle and the cloud. "Molex is proud to have its Automotive Ethernet Platform recognized by Autonomous Vehicle Technology maga- zine as one of the year's most noteworthy technological achievements in the fast- changing autonomous vehicle development space," said Bill Fitzer, Global Vice President and General Manager, Connected Mobility Solutions, Molex. "With our extensive expertise in high-speed data transmission, prioritization, scalability and security, Molex is committed to developing next-generation solutions for our connected mobility customers." Winners of the inaugural AVT ACES Awards were selected based on editor, industry expert and reader inputs. BNP Media launched AVT in April 2017 as the first brand dedicated to cover- ing the connectivity, advanced electronics, mobility services and collaboration that will comprise the age of autonomy. In addi- tion to a monthly print magazine, AVT dis- tributes a twice-monthly e-newsletter and operates autonomousvehicletech.com to equip its audience with sophisticated, authoritative coverage of the news and events that affect and shape the future of autonomous and related new mobility tech- nology. Molex at CES Molex connected mobility solutions lever- age the company's more than half a century of experience in developing high-speed net- working for the datacom, industrial and automotive industries. At the center of the connectivity, Molex is showcasing the next generation of its award-winning automotive multi-zone Ethernet network platform at CES in booth #MP25171 in South Hall 2. Smart Appliances Show That the Future is Now By Robin Mather According to marketing research compa- ny Parks Associates, 26 percent of home- owners already own a smart home device. Fifty percent or more intend to purchase a smart home device within the next 12 months. One in five said they want to own a smart appliance. The Pantry Chic system is a base with interchangeable, refillable, airtight canisters that can store, measure, dis- pense, track and order ingredients in one easy-to-use system. The base can convert volume to weight measures in dispensing dry goods such as flour, sugar and more, and measures the quantity needed direct- ly into a mixing bowl. The canisters can dispense more than 100 dry ingredients, from flour and baby formula to coffee beans and rice. They dispense from the bottom, so oldest ingredients are used first, and can be pro- grammed to track inventory. The canis- ters, made from BPA-free plastic, are dishwasher-safe and can stack for easy storage. The companion app uses a smart device such as a phone or tablet to pro- gram and control the Pantry Chic system. The app can guide its user through the entire recipe, can scale recipes up or down, can track recipe usage and share them on social media, and can provide recommendations for dietary restrictions and the user's history. Pantry Chic will begin shipping in August, with a suggest- ed retail price of $299 for the base and three canisters. For more information, visit www.PantryChic.com. Behmor has introduced the Brazen Plus eight-cup coffee brewer, which gives the user almost complete control of the brewing process. The temperature of the water can be set in one-degree incre- ments, and a now-or-later feature allows the water to be preheated for brewing at a specified time. The Brazen Plus brews into a 40-ounce stainless insulated carafe which will keep coffee warm for up to four hours, so the machine itself has no warmer plate — to prevent that unpleas- ant burnt coffee flavor and scent. A companion app can work with Alexa to start coffee brewing by voice command, or it can be controlled by any smart phone. The app features custom brew profiles for dozens of coffee brands, such as Starbucks, or users can set their own favorite profiles. Pulse water delivery and adjustable presoak of the ground coffee can also be set from the app. Suggested retail price is $169. For more information, visit www.behmore.com. Gourmia showed its GTA2500 Electric Digital Air Fryer Griller and Roaster, offered with a wide variety of attachments, including a spit for rotis- serie roasting. The device includes a wifi camera that lets the user monitor and control food cooking remotely — even from the office or soccer field. A com- panion app offers recipes and a manual, and both Alexa and Google Assistant can control the fryer, with Apple Home func- tionality coming soon. The appliance has a suggested retail price of $249. For more, visit www.gourmia.com. Hestancue's smart induction burners are designed to be used with its tempera- ture-sensing cookware and its companion app. The app controls the temperature of the induction burner, and cues the user on when to add the various ingredients in a pre-programmed recipe. Users can also bypass the automatic control and cook in Control Mode, and the portable induction burner can be used in Manual Mode. The app features hundreds of video- guided recipes created by chefs around the world. While the Hestancue cooking system can help total beginners gain cooking confidence, it can also function as a kitchen assistant for a more experienced cook, freeing him or her to pay closer attention to another dish cooking at the same time. The $499 suggested retail price includes the 1600-watt induction burner, an 11-inch stainless steel skillet and the app. A chef's pan is available separately.
