Oser Founder Produce Show Daily Wednesday, June 27, 2018 4 Who is DelFrescoPure? DelFrescoPure ® is an innovator and leader in the premium greenhouse pro- duce industry that grows and markets greenhouse tomatoes, peppers, cucum- bers, beans, eggplant and strawberries. It is family owned and has been operating for over 60 years in Kingsville, Ontario, Canada. The company prides itself on the quality of its produce, unsurpassed flavor and personalized customer service. President and Chief Executive Officer, Carl Mastronardi, has been growing hydroponically for over 35 years. Growing in a greenhouse is very different from conventional farming. The company is still farmers but much like the rest of the world today, it uses advanced technology to improve its tech- niques. DelFrescoPure's Specialty: Hydroponic Farming Hydroponic farming is an innovative form of agriculture that involves using a soilless medium to produce its crops. DelFrescoPure uses rock wool, which is the most widely used medium in hydro- ponic farming. Rock wool is an inert stone wool substance that is free from diseases or any other harmful contami- nants. Growing hydroponically within a greenhouse means more control over crops. Growing indoors allows DelFrescoPure to grow for a much longer period of time and also allows the com- pany to produce higher yields compared to traditional farming methods. Outdoor farming uses more water, fertilizers, pes- ticides, herbicides and fungicides. Hydroponic growing means DelFrescoPure has a stronger, more con- trolled environment. It can regulate the temperature, humidity and much more in its greenhouses to optimize its crops' ability to grow. It is able to mimic essen- tials used outdoors within its greenhous- es. For example, DelFrescoPure uses bumblebees in its greenhouses to polli- nate the plants. With greenhouses, it is able to grow produce at e x p o n e n t i a l yields com- pared to traditional farming. This method of growing allows DelFrescoPure to grow in safe and economic conditions in order to supply quality produce to a large population. DelFrescoPure is a true believer that you must truly love what you do in order to succeed in any environment. For Carl, growing has always been his passion. Being pioneers of the greenhouse industry, Carl and his family's commitment to fresh- ness, taste and quality keeps DelFrescoPure invested in the latest and most innovative technology in the industry. JoeFroyo Functional Cold Brew Launching Wholesale Operations JoeFroyo Functional Cold Brew™ is bring- ing its product to the retail marketplace in Southern California (greater Los Angeles area) and Puget Sound (Seattle/Tacoma area) through self-distribution in 2018. "This day is three years in the mak- ing," said Zach Miller, President and Chief Executive Officer. "I'm happy to see our sales and distribution vans finally hit the road." JoeFroyo Functional Cold Brew uti- lizes drinkable yogurt to provide probi- otics and protein in conjunction with caf- feine from its cold brew coffee. "The Functional Beverage Category is ripe for growth thanks to consumers' demand for baseline products like coffee or water with added benefits, particularly health benefits," said Miller. "I'm actu- ally most excited that our product is lac- tose free. In a way we've really created the world's first lactose free latte." The company offers JoeFroyo Functional Cold Brew in a bottled, ready- to-drink (RTD) format, as well as an over ice version (via one-gallon jug for pour overs or a 2.5 gallon bag-in-box to be uti- lized by a dairy dispenser) and a frozen blended dispensed version. The company's distribution facility in Upland, California opened in January. JoeFroyo Functional Cold Brew is also one of the first to market with a High Pressure Processed (HPP) drinkable dairy beverage. High Pressure Processing creates a shelf-life for food and beverage products without relying on chemical preservatives. HPP is common in the juice, dip and salsa industries. Miller came up with the idea for JoeFroyo Functional Cold Brew after spending time in the retail coffee/frozen yogurt industries. "One of our customers' favorite concoctions was what we called the 'Yo-gato,' vanilla frozen yogurt with one or two shots of espresso floated on top," said Miller. "As functional bever- ages began to take off as a category I realized I could combine the health benefits of frozen yogurt with espresso and meet this new demand." "It took three years of research and development, branding and for- mulation," said Miller. "But now we've created a JoeFroyo Functional Cold Brew that's the same whether a customer buys it pre-bottled, over ice or frozen dispensed." JoeFroyo Functional Cold Brew hopes to service clients in the grocery, convenience store, hospitality, conces- sion and cafeteria industries.
