Convenience Retailer Show Daily Friday, October 20, 2017 2 0 XLERATOR Hand Dryers Help Brooklyn Bowl Achieve LEED Certification Brooklyn Bowl is the epitome of trendy. With some of the coolest international acts playing the main stage, and thou- sands of people filling the world-famous bowling alley, restaurant and night club, it is one of the hippest entertainment attractions in New York City. Most recently though, this hot spot has become as renowned for its sustainability initia- tives as it is for its chill Brooklyn vibe. Located in the refurbished Hecla Iron Works Building, Brooklyn Bowl was created with sustainability in mind. Its stage floor is constructed of recycled truck tires, the lounge floors with reclaimed cork floors, and the LED stage lights use 90 percent less energy than typical lights. The facility has its power derived by wind energy, uses special fans to augment the HVAC system and employs a unique pin-spotter system (which uses pins on strings) for greater energy efficiency. It even goes so far as to only serve beer on tap that is brewed locally right in Brooklyn, reducing fuel consumption and carbon emissions. These sustainability efforts continue into the restroom, making XLERATOR ® Hand Dryers a perfect fit for the facility's aesthetic and its goal of reducing its car- bon footprint. All of these initiatives combined to make Brooklyn Bowl the first bowling alley in the world to obtain LEED ® certification by the U.S. Green Building Council. With its iconic décor, Brooklyn Bowl also wanted its restrooms to look as chic as the rest of the facility, and aes- thetically, XLERATOR fit the bill. In addition to its sleek, sophisticated appearance, as well as the availability of custom cov- ers, XLERATOR keeps the restrooms cleaner and more hygienic because there are no paper towels littering the floor, clogging toilets and overflowing trash bins. High-speed, energy- efficient XLERATOR Hand Dryers dry hands fast; compared to conventional hand dryers, they use 80 percent less energy. According to a peer reviewed Life Cycle Assessment, in accordance with ISO 14040 standards, XLERATOR effectively reduces carbon emissions by up to 75 percent compared to conven- tional hand dryers and 100-percent recy- cled paper towels. These numbers add up to a significant difference for a facility hosting 2,000-3,000 visitors every day. Not only did XLERATOR help Brooklyn Bowl maintain its status as one of the coolest bowling alleys around – it helped it become the greenest, too. UL Environment (a business division of Underwriters' Laboratories) sub- stantiated Excel Dryer's sustainability claims with the pub- lication of three E n v i r o n m e n t a l Product Declarations (EPDs) for each of the manufacturer's three high-speed, energy-efficient hand dryers, the first such certification in the industry. Like Brooklyn Bowl, Excel Dryer is a thought leader on environmental sustainability, leading the industry by example. For more information about the sig- nificance of the first EPDs in the hand dryer industry visit exceldryer.com/epd. Graffco: Pioneers in Pre-owned Pumps, Dispensers By Daniel M. Graff, President, Graffco, Inc. Graffco offers an alternative to brand- new pumps that allows distributors to save up to approximately 50 percent over new. These units are late model Gilbarco Encores and Wayne Ovations in used condition, island tested or completely reconditioned. We currently have a limit- ed number of Gilbarco Flex Pay II kits that are upgradeable for EMV in 2020. Other products Graffco offers are rebuilt electronic boards for the dispensers, replacement stainless steel, rebuilt POS equipment and rebuilt tank monitoring equipment. Visit our new E-Commerce section on our website to see all that Graffco has to offer. Our customers are a lot of distribu- tors who will resell our equipment to smaller oil companies that can't afford new. We cater to the smaller marketer, but we still can handle doing special things for the bigger ones. For instance, we have a "hit pump" program that includes a fast turnaround time for sta- tions who need a pump rebuilt. One company that takes advantage of this program is 7-11. Many marketers are actually "wait- ing to see" what is going to be the answer for EMV in 2020. They have spent a ton of money in the last couple of years doing some upgrading but they are watching their pennies for a while on other upgrades. We recommend that they purchase only equipment that is upgrade- able in the future to EMV replacing older equipment such as the older Encores, Vistas, etc. We can supply this niche market with quality used pumps and reconditioned pumps. With the reputation we've earned through the years of doing business, we continue to supply a niche market with quality used and reconditioned pumps. If you are search- ing for an affordable solution to new petroleum equipment, then why not give us a try. We stand by everything we sell, and everyone in the petroleum industry knows that. More Variety Key Ingredient to Standout Roller Grill Sales Convenience stores with a robust roller grill program have a leg up on their fast food competitors thanks to their ability to provide value items at a faster speed than even restaurant drive-thrus. According to a 2016 Technomic Lunch Trend Report, convenience and affordability are the two top drivers for c-store lunch visits. Knowing that any well-run roller grill can meet those criteria, how can retailers elevate their grill even further? The answer is variety! Tornados ® , America's No. 1 roller grill brand, are bold ingredients wrapped in a crispy seasoned tortilla that add a wide variety of on-trend flavors to your foodservice lineup. With 14 flavors rang- ing from Ranchero Steak & Cheese, French Toast & Sausage or Chicken Teriyaki, there's always a Tornado to satisfy any craving. Always striving to bring flavor- ful variety to the roller grill, the newest flavors of Tornados give a bold twist to a couple of classic American flavors: Spicy Cheesesteak and BBQ Chicken. The Spicy Cheesesteak was inspired by the classic sandwich from Philadelphia, but with a heavy dose of Pepper Jack cheese to make this flavor the most liked Tornado in Ruiz Foods history when test- ed by c-store roller grill consumers. Not to be outdone, the BBQ Chicken Tornados add tender grilled chicken to a smoky BBQ sauce that appeals to any BBQ fan. If you're looking to bring more variety and news to your roller grill, the newest Tornados are a great place to start deliver- ing unique winning flavor combinations you can't find anywhere else all wrapped up and ready to eat on the go, no buns or condiments needed.
