Broadcasters Show Daily 1 3 Tuesday, April 25, 2017 COMPROMPTER RELEASES LIVE MULTI-SPEAKER CLOSED CAPTIONING SYSTEM Caption Central Multi (CCM) is designed to solve four major problems of closed captioning: Completeness CCM passes through scripted ENT cap- tioning and supplements any unscripted comments, segments or complete shows with live voice captioning. Thus, 100 percent of any show is captioned. Multiple Voice Recognition Caption Central Multi tracks up to 40 speak- ers backed by a 300,000-plus word diction- ary plus hundreds of custom local vocabu- lary words sharable by all speakers. Producers can set up newscasts and other shows with the studio location and mic num- ber, profile name and an on-air name and title for up to eight simultaneous speakers, then save that setting using a show or pro- gram name. With a single click, those set- tings can be loaded and within 20 seconds the proper mics, speakers' profile, names and titles are ready to go to air. The impor- tance of this is that CCM then identifies each speaker by name and title when they speak. For example: Bill McWha, Baptist Minister >> "The Law steps in only when individual moral- ity has failed…" Charlie Williams, Agnostic Society >> "Granted, but the moral issue of right and wrong does not have to be based solely on religion." Thus, for the first time, the hearing impaired viewers know who is saying those words and can attach meaning by knowing the point of view of that speaker. Real-Time Transcription Hand captioning typically deliv- ers captions four to eight sec- onds behind the speaker with no link to who said those words. CCM keeps every conversation in sequence, regardless of the number of on-set speakers, or the order in which they speak. CCM presents the words spoken in the studio in the real-time sequence and identifies who spoke them. Typically, Caption Central Multi's text output runs about two seconds behind real-time, and each word is spell checked and context checked prior to sending it to air to assure CCM chooses the best and most logical word. Emergency Broadcast Delays Emergency broadcast delays are mostly caused by the time it takes to make arrangements with a captioning service for a typist. CCM is ready to go as soon as the anchors have their mics on and are camera-ready – a simple click of the AD- LIB button creates the script and encodes the text live while they speak. Caption Central Multi supports many English accents in order to fine tune pro- nunciations and speech patterns for each speaker, different regions and even national origin. English accents include: Standard American, Inland Northern U.S., Southern U.S., Australian, British, Indian, Spanish and Asian. Many foreign languages include: U.K. English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Dutch and Japanese. The Caption Central Multiple Profile system (CCM) comes packaged as a plug and play rack-mount system configured as a four- or eight-speaker system. The system includes built-in LAN and audio input support. CCM is compatible with any broadcast newsroom system and cap- tion encoder. See Caption Central Multi in the North Hall, NAB booth #N6014. MANAGING DIABETES WITH DEXCOM By Chelsea Gelbart, Young Professional by Day, Mountain Climber by Weekend, Type 1 for Life My Hardest Climb In April 2015, I was climbing Mt. Whitney in California and training for a much more rigorous climb of Mt. Blanc in France. I had always dreamed of summiting Mt. Blanc and had received a grant for the climb through the American Alpine Club. During the Mt. Whitney climb, I felt horrible, but chalked it up to the altitude sickness since I started feeling a little better on the way down. When I got home, I still wasn't feel- ing well. I was extremely thirsty and visit- ing the bathroom a lot more than usual. Soon after the climb, I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at the age of 24. CGM First I walked into my endocrinologist's office and said 'what do I need to do to get this under control so I can continue to climb?' My endo and diabetes educator became my team. They said they'll help me get there, but first I needed the Dexcom Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) System. Although my diagnosis was overwhelming, I decided to focus on my goals to keep climbing. My family and supporters helped me remain focused and continue on with my dreams. Climbing Partners Once I got started on the Dexcom CGM System, I fell into a rhythm right away. By seeing the glucose readings every five minutes, I quickly understood how my body was working and how food and exercise affected my glucose levels. It was because of climbing that I also became aware of the role altitude played on my glucose levels. The Dexcom CGM Systems quickly became a vital part of my climbing tool kit. Climbing Up and Moving Forward Getting to a place where I could accom- plish my goal of climbing Mt. Blanc meant so much to me. I proved to myself that although I have diabetes, I can still accomplish my dreams and live life to the fullest. Without the Dexcom CGM System, I wouldn't have felt comfortable going on these climbs. It has been an invaluable tool since the beginning. Since being diagnosed, I have decided that I wanted to contribute and be part of diabetes care and research. To help achieve this goal, I have decided to go to nursing school and become a nurse prac- titioner. Some days, diabetes feels like a mountain – some days it's like a bunny hill. What I've learned is that it's impor- tant to change the challenge into an opportunity. Diabetes is hard. But now I have the opportunity to encourage other peo- ple to do more research and really dig deeper. By having a tool like the Dexcom CGM System, it allows me to empower myself to take control of my diabetes. For more information, visit www .dexcom.com.
