Produce Show Daily Saturday, October 15, 2016 5 2 CURRENT, POWERED BY GE The Future of Grocery Lighting Is Now In today's grocery stores, lighting does more than illuminate spaces. As lighting options have matured, they're no longer just about illumination, but about sens- ing and connecting to create brighter and smarter environments. As such, gro- cery stores are starting to embrace intel- ligent lighting, making it possible for them to deliver the experience that cus- tomers demand. As any retailer knows, getting the customer experience right is essential to maintaining brand identity and loyalty, and actionable insights from intelligent lighting provide grocery stores with the keys to unlock the store's full potential. There's been a major movement recently toward ceiling fixtures that not only illuminate the grocery store with LED lighting to enhance the customer journey and the products, but lighting that is also intelligent. Intelligent lighting provides an integration point for data from all types of smart devices, such as mobile phones, video cameras, sensors, beacons and other devices within the realm of The Internet of Things. This data can help retailers gain actionable insight to transform their business in real time. Intelligent Lighting Provides Future-Proofing for Retailers Adoption of this technology today will prepare grocery stores for the future of supermarket lighting. According to research from Memoori, 70 percent of all data will be integrated through intelligent lighting by 2020. The effi- ciency and longevity of LED, along with the upgradeability of lighting controls to provide new data from sen- sors and intelligent devices as they become available, allow grocers to see benefits from the investment many times over. Through visible light communica- tion (VLC), Current, powered by GE makes it possible for grocers to com- municate with their cus- tomers and store associ- ates, and to gather infor- mation from smart tech- nology within the store. In addition, indoor positioning capa- bility allows supermarkets to gain important insights on shopping pat- terns, effectiveness of merchandise presentation and store flow, product selection and conversion, as well as effective energy management and con- trol. "At Current, powered by GE, we can couple our innovation in lighting tech- nology with Predix, GE's cloud-based operating system. Predix helps us deliver real-time analytics and a platform capa- ble of supporting the industry's drive to Unified Commerce. For grocers, intelli- gent lighting offers the promise of trans- forming the customer experience, as well as their bottom line," said Jerri Traflet, Senior Retail Marketing Executive. About Current, powered by GE Current, powered by GE, delivers an intelligent store environment leverag- ing lighting and ana- lytics that provides the foundation for unified commerce through cost savings of LED and Energy Management Systems. Current, powered by GE, integrates data from intelligent end- points (IOT devices, sensors and bea- cons) to capture customer shopping patterns, deliver real-time analytics and to efficiently operate the store environment improving revenue opportunities and controlling energy usage across the retail chain. Gaining customer insight to provide actionable information improves customer experi- ence, streamlines inventory manage- ment and enables new revenue streams from real-time data and analytics all through the power of Intelligent LED which delivers an ROI to fund itself. NEW MATRIX MACHINE FORMS TOP, CORNER SPOUT POUCHES Matrix Packaging Machinery, powered by Pro Mach, now distributes the FLtecnics BV series of vertical form-fill- seal pouch machines. These machines form top or corner spout pouches from the same applicator – a new patented process – and are rated at up to 85 pouch- es per minute. BV machines deliver significant sav- ings to in-house packaging operations and co-packers because one flexible machine is capable of packaging so many different items in various pouches: liq- uids or dry products packaged in zip- pered, top or corner spout, flat, stand up and/or shaped pouches. These machines even package wet-wipes. A wide range of pouch sizes are available with maximum volume rated at 55 fluid ounces (1650 cc) and maximum width 6.7 inches (170 mm) and length 11.8 inches (300 mm). The machines utilize one piece spouts with child choke-proof caps. The BV series is available in an ultra-clean con- figuration. Automatic format changeover and easy adjustment systems reduce the time required to switch from one style of pouch to another by up to 50 percent as compared to other form-fill-seal pouch machines. These walking beam machines are servo driven for high accuracy and low maintenance. The BV series has a smaller footprint than comparable machines to conserve valuable floor space. Options include the new stroke on demand feature, which automatically stops the machine should product not be available. Once sufficient product has entered the scale, the controller starts the BV up again without missing a beat or having to index two or three empty pouches to catch up. Matrix estimates that the stroke on demand option can eliminate up to 98 percent of the film waste commonly occur- ring when machines stop due to lack of product. The BV series automati- cally adjusts film height and registration while running, for higher quali- ty packaging with less waste. FLtecnics mechanical components are warranted for three years; electrical components for one year. INTRODUCING LABELSPEC, THE LABEL INSPECTION SYSTEM FROM LANDSBERG The ground-breaking LabelSpec™ System identifies mislabeled product at the end of a production line to ensure accurate product labeling on both the front and back of the product. Existing solutions for label accuracy in the mar- ketplace are designed to rely on barcode scanning, which is a problem, as in most cases the barcode only exists on one of the two labels applied to the final pack- age. There is now a solution to help this problem – LabelSpec! LabelSpec consists of three main systems. First, a packaging handling system made up of a durable portable central frame that integrates all of the components of the system. This includes a package handling hugger belt conveyor that transfers the finished product from the end of the processing line into the inspection system. This hugger belt conveyor is specifically designed to expose the entire top and bottom of the package. The second part of this system includes the state-of-the-art V2630 Mettler Toledo vision system, which inspects and confirms label accuracy and generates a signal to move the bad prod- uct from the line. Rejecting mislabeled product is the primary mission of this system. The third part of this sys- tem is a robust and secure package reject system. This is a fast-acting air cylinder that will quickly and accurately push rejected product into a secure lockable reject bin so that it can be inspected for cause of the reject. If more than three products are rejected in a row, the system will automatically stop and a warning horn will be activated. Some packaging lines utilize manu- ally placed labels, which can leave a tremendous amount of room for human error. For those looking for a comprehen- sive automated labeling solution, there is also the LabelSpec+™! The LabelSpec+ was developed to provide a single frame solution that incorporates a top and bot- tom labeling system with a video jet cod- ing unit and the LabelSpec Vision System. A very significant secondary bene- fit of the LabelSpec is the col- lection of useful and accurate production data that can be monitored in real time. For your production group, it will be an automatic recording of what item ran, start and finish time for that item, including line down and rejects produced. For your sales group, LabelSpec produces trackable, automat- ed data that shows daily, weekly and monthly production variables that will help with costing and drive priorities for engineering and maintenance. Landsberg Engineered Packaging Solutions combines world-class flexible packaging capabilities with leading-edge equipment expertise to provide you with a total packaging solution. LabelSpec is trademarked and patent pending. For more information, visit booth #147 or call 800.600.3580.
