Back in 1995, a local chef came to our greenhouse and got excited when he saw some basil seedlings grow- ing there. He wanted to try using them to accent his plate presentations, and although it did not make a lot of sense at the time, it was then that David began producing these and other varieties of tiny, fresh-cut seedlings destined for restaurants in Orange County, Calif. COLORFUL HARVEST PICKS UP NEW PARTNER In late 2013, Salinas, Calif.-based Colorful Harvest LLC announced that founding members Doug Ranno, Tom Remick, David Knudsen and Art Davis, together owning a 60 percent interest in the company, had sold their shares to The Andrew Smith Company and remaining founding member Jeffrey Sholl, giving each a 50 percent interest. Doug Ranno, long time COO, has moved on to pursue other interests. Steffanie Smith is carrying on the leadership role as the company's new CEO. "Doug's talent and energy will be missed, and we wish him well. We look forward to building on the foundation that has been laid, and taking the compa- ny to new heights in 2014," said Smith.
