The cab finishes – cab walls can be made of glass, wood paneling, veneer or melamine. The drive system – hydraulic drive systems are normally slightly more expensive than in-line drive systems, also called counterweight systems. The number of floors being serviced – elevators installed in residences can go from two stops to six. Each stop requires an interlock attached to the door and adjustments for leveling. The cost for an additional floor is usually $1,000-1,500. The length of travel required – nor- mally, home elevators can travel up to 50 feet. The cost associated with the length Garaventa Lift (Cont'd. from p. 4) of travel is usually about $200/foot. The number of cab entrances – some elevators are configured with entrances on more than one side of the elevator cab. Additional openings will add cost. Customization – if your plans include customization of your elevators to match fixture finishes or special sizes, you can expect to pay a small premium. Some manufacturers, industry key players make home elevators to order, so it is not always costly to order custom features. Spyderco Knife Sharpeners Sharp knives are a cook's most important tools, but for many, sharpening a knife remains an elusive skill. Spyderco's Tri- Angle Sharpmaker ® and Galley-V™ change all that, bringing professional- quality sharpening within easy reach of any cook. Spyderco's sharpeners don't require power, oil, water or any complicated fix- tures. Instead, they use two ceramic rods mounted in a "V" configuration in a plas- tic base. By keeping the plane of the knife's blade vertical and alternately drawing it down the length of each abra- sive rod, the home cook automatically achieves the perfect angle on both sides of the edge. The radiused edges of the rods even allow the same method to sharpen serrated blades. The Tri-Angle Sharpmaker includes both fine and medi- um-grit ceramic rods and offers both 30- and 40-degree sharpening angles as well as a 12.5- degree angle for sharpening kitchen shears and scissors. For ultra-thin kitchen blades, the Galley-V includes two fine-grit ceramic stones at a 20-degree angle. Its injection- molded base is designed to be clamped or permanent- ly mounted to a countertop or other surface. Simple, quick, and easy to use, Spyderco's sharpening systems demystify the sharpening process and empower all cooks to "hone their own." For more information, go to www .spyderco.com/culinary.
