Broadcasters Show Daily 2 5 Monday, April 8, 2019 offers a 4U rack mount measuring 15 inch- es from front rail to rear rail, which safely accommodates deeper equipment, such as the Universal Audio Apollo audio interface. It also provides a 21-inch by 15.5-inch adjustable work surface with ample room for laptops or monitors, and a specially molded exterior pattern that stacks securely with all SKB Roto Racks. With an exterior dimension measuring less than 62 linear inches, the 1SKB-iSF4U is also below the oversized threshold for checkable baggage. "As soon as we released the injec- tion molded 2U Studio Flyer, customers were asking for a 4U version to house deeper gear and we were happy to rise to the challenge," explains Will Steven, SKB's Product Manager. "We understand SKB (Cont'd. from p. 1) that traveling with sensitive broadcasting equipment can often be an expensive and awkward experience, so it's been our mission to develop convenient, secure transport options for broadcasters. This 4U Studio Flyer is the perfect light- weight, all-in-one solution." Other standard features of the 1SKB-iSF4U include improved quiet- glide wheels, an easy-to-operate one-but- ton pull handle for convenient transport and TSA-accessible locking trigger latch- es. Like all SKB injection molded cases, the 1SKB-iSF4U is proudly made in the USA and comes with an unconditional lifetime warranty. A less efficient product would allow it to change channel easily but could cost up to $40,000 a year extra in power and HVAC bills; over the life of the trans- mitter that would be close to half a million dollars. There seemed to be no solution. After visiting NAB 2018 and see- ing the Anywave Magma Series trans- mitter, WMDT-TV found the answer. The Magma employs the latest BLF888E transistors which operate on both channel 47 and channel 29 with absolutely no change to the amplifiers. The transmitter was installed in January 2019 and put on the air in February. Already the power bill has dropped, the transmitter uses signifi- cantly less space and is much quieter, says Bill Hoctor, Chief Engineer at WMDT. "Anywave is relatively new in the high power transmitter market. Our major business has been LPTV, but after releasing the Magma Series liquid cooled systems we have seen tremen- dous interest from broadcasters looking for high efficiency and broadband in one package," said Perry Priestley, Chief Executive Officer of Anywave Communication Technologies. "When the time comes, WMDT and Anywave will easily switch the transmitter to channel 29," said Jeff Smith, WMDT- TV. Included with the article, pictured are WMDT's Jeff Smith, Bill Hoctor, Bill Andrew Prouse and Eric Walston, with Anywave's Paul Dadian, Perry Priestley and Tee Thomas during the installation of WMDT-TV Salisbury.
